Trip Report - Jan 14-22 Cruise/WDW: A Disney Trip Full of Hope! COMPLETED!! 7/15 - Page 25 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow. Family stuff can be so tough. That's sad it happened at Disney and affected your dad as it did. I hope the magic was restored quickly to your trip.

Thursday, January 21st: Part Three – Home-cooked Meal Hits the Spot!
I last left off with us getting ready to be seated at…
With the family drama now hopefully behind us, we were ready to try and enjoy a nice meal. I remember my uncle saying their reservation was about 20 minutes behind ours so I was hoping that the diners in our room wouldn’t be finishing up around the same time. We were seated in the back but we could see down the long hallway that leads to the bathroom, so I was able to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
I had honestly lost my appetite which really upset me because this is one of my favorite meals in the park. Not only was I dealing with what just happened, but we needed to eat rather quickly in order to make our FP return time for TSMM. While we waited for our order we talked about what had happened, and because I’m not the kind of person who likes confrontation, the guilt started to set in. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything. Did I do the right thing? Did I take it out on the wrong person? My mom said that she completely understood why I did what I did. It was just a defense mechanism and because I had had enough of them treating my father the way they did, I just snapped. I had kept it all in for so long and finally I just let it out on my cousin. I did feel bad because that’s not the type of person I am, but I know deep down that they don’t feel bad for how they treat my dad, so in a way I felt a little bit better.
We tried to lighten the mood by taking our first vacation pick of Minnie enjoying her time at 50’s Prime Time Café.
And before we knew it our meals had arrived. Both my mom and Chad got the fried chicken, which they loved. My mom always gets this and is never able to finish the whole thing, but she always gets away with it. I just don’t understand.
I got the meatloaf, which I always get and I always clean my plate. Sorry about the bite out of the meatloaf...I just couldn't wait.
Even though I didn’t have an appetite at first, it came back quickly after I began to eat, and I was once again able to finish the whole thing. I have to say that in all the years we’ve been eating here, we have never once had to stand in the corner, or have our food fed to us by our waitress, but we’ve always had a good time with the interaction. Maybe it’s because we are so nice that they feel bad punishing us.
When we finished I made my mom walk out first to see if the family was anywhere in sight, but the coast was clear and we never ended up seeing them again. My father was waiting for us where we had left him, and he seemed a little bit better. I had decided I wasn’t going to tell him what happened in the restaurant. I didn’t want to ruin his evening any more than it already was and I didn’t want him to think I was fighting his battles for him, so we left it behind us and forged on.
We made our way over to TSMM and oh my goodness was it madness over there.
Not only was the standby line almost 2 hours long, but the fastpass line wasn’t what I would call short either: We waited about 30 minutes to get through, and tried to pass the time with Hope as best as we could. About halfway through we found out that she really liked Chad’s hat.
She wouldn’t leave it alone, and about 15 minutes of having it in her mouth the whole thing was soaked, so Chad had to walk around with a huge drool spot on the bill of his hat.
Before we got on the ride, Chad was once again thinking he was going to beat me because I had Hope in my lap. I was thinking he was right because this ride was a little harder to maneuver when you had something in your way, something like a baby! I don’t quite remember the scores, but I do remember who won, and you guessed it, I did! I actually beat everyone this time!!! That’s right, I won with a baby on my lap. Can you imagine how well I would have done without her there, I would have been unstoppable! I will continue to be the reigning champ of my family until someone can de-throne me.
Chad and I wanted to ride RnR because last year I was pregnant and couldn’t get on all of the good rides. So my parents took Hope for a little bit so we could have some adult time without her. We didn’t have FPs for this ride so we had to wait in the standby line. It was showing a 50 minute wait, but this is one of my favorite rides and I didn’t want to miss it for a second time. While we were waiting I took a picture of this ride…
For some reason I used to really like ToT, but now I get myself all scared right before we want to go on and I end up chickening out. Maybe it’s my old age or something, I don’t know. We ended up only waiting about 30 minutes for the ride, and while we were waiting we met a really nice father and his daughter who was riding it for the first time. Talking to them helped pass the time so it didn’t even seem like a 30 minute wait.
I’m so glad we were able to get on the ride and that ended up being the last one of the night. That was how we ended our wonderful vacation, with a ride on RnR. We found my parents outside of American Idol watching the finale on the big screens outside, with Hope sound asleep.
We sat there for a little bit longer waiting to see who was going to win, and it ended up being the girl who we watched win at our show. How about that! I’m going to try to look for her next year during the audition process, and then not watch it anymore after that, just not a fan.
We left the park after that and ended up walking back to the resort. It was a beautiful night and I wanted to enjoy it as much as I could before it was all over. Even though the day looked like it was going to take a turn for the worst, it ended up being great. My father was in such a good mood by the time we met up after our ride on RnR which think Hope had something to do with.
We finished the evening with a piece of carrot cake from the Boardwalk Bakery, packed some stuff up and went to bed.
Friday, January 22nd – See Ya Real Soon!
We got up bright and early to get ready to finally go home. We woke up to which I thought was very fitting. It didn’t rain the whole time we were on vacation, and I was happy that it waited until our departure day.
We ate breakfast in the room one last time (powdered doughnut holes for me) and headed down to meet the ME bus for our 9:30 am pick up time. I always hate this part, and at the time I didn’t think I would be returning “home” until May 2012 for Hope’s 3rd birthday celebration. Lucky for me I get to come back in September! But I was sad this day because I didn’t know that yet.
While we waited I decided to get a couple of pictures on the oversized couch. I can’t believe how little Hope looks in this picture, I mean the sofa makes her look extra small, but seeing her today and seeing her then makes me miss it even more!
Before we knew it the bus was arriving to take us to the dreaded airport...
...and then we were flying back to Baltimore. Back to the cold cold weather…yuck!

So sorry to see this TR end. So glad you had a wonderful eening after the Family Drama, and yourdadwas in a bettermood. Defanitely curious to find out what happened withe the CM Fiasco. What a wonderful trip you had Melissa. Can't wait to read about your next trip given you'll be returning right as I'm getting there. Thank you for sharing yoir trip with us. So much fun to read about.
Oh and I forgot to say, you had me laughing so hard over Chad's hat brim full of Hope's baby drool. We know the feeling as Skyler used to do the same. At least his hat made great entertainment in TSMM FP Line. The picture of Minnie's first 50's PTC Meal is pretty cute and funny too.
Great updates! Glad there was no more drama and you ended up having a great night! Sorry it's all coming to an end!

I feel like I've been working on this TR forever! Somehow I've managed to make this week-long trip last for 6 months!!!

I always end up getting the same thing to eat. I guess I'm just not adventurous in that respect.

I can't wait to go back, even though it will only be for 4 days. I wish it was longer, but it's better than nothing.
Great update Melissa. We're hoping to try 50s PTC next September (2011) when we go - and that fried chicken looked yummy!! I LOVE fried chicken.
So sad about you had to go, but you're going back soon - and you're right any time in Disney is better than none.
Anxiously awaiting the next installment!
What a great ending to your trip! I always hate the departure day too, although rain would make me feel better! You just wait till September, Hope is going to be even more fun! You really hate seeing them grow up so fast, but seeing their reaction to Disney as they grow is so priceless!

My mom says that they serve some of the best fried chicken she's ever tasted, so if you go, I hope it lives up to her reviews!

I can't wait to take her back. We just took her to the ocean this past weekend, and she loved the carousel ride at Rehoboth. At first she seemed a little iffy about it, but then she couldn't get enough of it. I know this next trip to Disney will be much better than the first.
