National parks, natural beauty and a bit of Disney wonder! DISNEYLAND SECTION COMPLETED - Page 25 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It's funny how everyone's experiences are so different. Yes, I do get quite wet on Splash at DL, and I usually do, but it's nothing compared to the one and only time I rode Splash at WDW. I was SOAKED to the core! My son and I get a direct hit from one of the cannons early in the ride, and we were completely drenched!
Sorry that it wasn't the best of experiences for you, but I'm glad it got better after you saw your favorite donkey! It's a shame the characters weren't out for you to take pictures there at that time. The set-up is nice (similar to what I saw at WDW) where you get in one line and then get to see one character, then move to the next one, and the next one.
And about the stores at DL, I guess I just take them for granted since that's how I've always seen them. Now that I think back on it, the stores I remember at WDW were quite generic, but my favorites were at Epcot, and those were obviously a little better themed!

Ugh... how annoying to get so wet on Splash! On rides like that, I don't think they should be getting you wet other than on the big drop. I am SO not a fan of the water cannons at WDW. That just ruins a great ride for me.

You definitely got wet. I think it's such a gamble with that ride, even at WDW. I've stayed dried and got wet riding SM...I guess it's all part of the fun.

That is funny the way experiences differ! We have met the characters there before and I loved being able to spend time with each of them in turn, but of course the biggest hug went to a certain donkey...
Wonderful pictures! I definitely think you get wetter on DL's Splash Mountain. And there always seems to be a lot of water in the boat when you get into it! Also, I got completely drenched in the back seat, because the log is kind of open back there. Unless it's a really hot day, I usually skip it. Glad the sight of your donkey was able to cheer you up.

Sunday 28 August – part three: “we don’t get many people wanting to go this way this early in the morning”
When we got to the hub, Mark asked about where he could get a Star Wars T-shirt from and I suggested in Tomorrowland, near to Star Tours, so he set off that way. I told him that I’d meet him in Town Square, as I had spotted a vintage car and wanted to take that back down.
I was on my own on the journey. As the Cast Member said to me, “we don’t get many people wanting to go this way this early in the morning” He was a fascinating person. He worked as an airline pilot for many years and, as he told me, “I’m still in the transportation business today”.
When I got to my destination, I got a few photos...
Then I settled down to wait for Mark, finding a point where I hoped I would see him coming from any direction. I have to say here that I was thinking that perhaps this was a very silly move and all sorts of thoughts went through my head about what would happen if I didn’t see him. Of course, I had the cell phone, but we had no way of contacting each other. Fortunately, all my worrying was for nothing and I found him easily enough, coming back down Main Street.
We headed out and stopped to get some breakfast at the La Brea Bakery. Well, that was until Mark realised that he still had some chocolate in his pocket, so we got out of the line and ate that instead.
He stopped for a look in World of Disney for a T-shirt, while I hot footed it back to the room to get all the photos sorted before we had to check out.
That done, we went and checked out and, while Mark waited in line for bell services, I went to get our boarding passes printed at guest relations. I was very impressed that we could pay in advance for our three bags and I think that was cheap. It cost just $27, which the guy at guest relations told me was very good. I know – that’s why I went for Air Canada!
Once we were done, it was off to the California Adventure. We took forever to get into the park due to the woman in front who wanted to ask everything of the Cast Member, who was supposed to be getting people into the park. What’s wrong with guest relations?
Finally, we were in and we headed round to the Hollywood area, stopping to get some water relief from the heat in these neat things outside Soarin’.... I was wet enough, so passed...
The scale of the work at the front of the park is quite something to see in the daylight. Of course, that meant no Photopass photographers anywhere. I was beginning to think that we wouldn’t find any at all in this park...
We browsed another shop and again fantastic theming in it.
Mark even found a taste of home in here, which was a bit surreal, as I thought this was all supposed to be about California...
We went in the Hollywood area and headed for the Art of Animation and Turtle Talk with Crush, but sadly luck wasn’t on our side here. Both the animation session and Turtle Talk were another 10 minutes or so away....
Wow! There is a lot of work going on at the front of CA! I'm a little behind, but I love the look of the HM at DL. I think I've seen that very house in the Garden District here at home. I'm going to have to go for a long walk and see if I can find it again!

Knowing Disney, they probably did base it on a real property.
Loved the photos of Main St and it reminded me that it's been a while since I've been down Main St at MK without lots of buildings covered with scrims. I can't believe you got OUT of the line at the bakery. Everything looks so good ! Looks like all the construction is at the CA entrance.
It's going to rain next?? C'mon, you're in California!
