A Promise Kept: A Cam and Fam PTR Updated 10/9 - Page 24 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, I slacked off but now I'm caught up. What better to do on a Friday at work than catch up on a Cam TR?
Love seeing all of the plans. Glad Star Wars Galactic Spectacular will work out for you!
And I completely agree about MSEP's music! I was a much bigger fan of Spectro! But, in June when Jason and I went to see Tyler in the parade, as we were leaving the 2nd MSEP of the night was starting and he wanted to stay. It was so empty we sat right by the train station and watched and now that it's leaving, I guess I'm glad he wanted to do that.
And it's a good thing I had eaten already! That food list looks scrumptious!!

That is some extensive food list ya got there!!! Wowza. We won't have the time or the budget to sample a whole lot, but noticing that there's Poland in your booth list, I may have to check that one out. Family ancestry and all.
OK, I just finished dinner...and my tuna salad sandwich and garden salad pales in comparison to the things on this list! (but for a miserably hot work day, it was perfect)
I'm going to have to prepare my own list!
I'm tired of miserable hot and humid days. But I also told Luke that I'm tired of my whining about it, too. A cold front is supposed to go through tonight so I've gotten my hopes up.

After our first visit to the F&WF when I took so long to make decisions at each booth, I decided to do a little planning ahead.
Great list Cam! So many of these are on my list for October and sound so good! I can't wait to indulge in them shortly!
It will be fun to compare our opinions after we've both been to the F&WF.

The F&WF is one of the reasons I love Disney in the fall so much.

I can't wait to share the F&WF experience with my sister and her family.
Some of your favorites were mine as well the one time we've been able to attend F&WF. Yummy!!!!
I almost didn't recognize you without your sig pic. I have picked out items that are must dos over the years.

Looks like you are just 3 weeks away.
Luke will probably get the shrimp tacos in Mexico, but I don't like seafood with my Mexican dishes. I'm just weird about that. I'm hoping to get photos of lots of different dishes this year since my sister's family will be getting stuff, too.

I think it would be cool if we got to sample everything on the list, but realistically, I'm not sure I have enough stomach to manage it. But if the six of us share some of the items made we can manage more.

I am with you on SpectroMagic, so much cooler than MSEP. But after seeing Paint the Night last October at DL, I'm very ready for WDW to get a brand new nighttime parade that rivals that one.

I'm very sorry to hear about Luke's aunt
Thank so much! I talked with June tonight and she had a zillion questions about Magic Bands. Now she is even more excited to start wearing hers.

.
I can't remember off the top of my head, but there is something that Luke will get at Poland that is a favorite for him. I really am hoping that the 6 of us can share and manage to sample more items than the two of us alone could do.
I agree it is best to share dishes so that you can try so many other things. Although there are a few items that, I"m sorry you'll have to get your own. Can't wait to see all your pictures since you will be there before us.
I am excited to have my BFF with us for her very first time and she is so excited!

I know what you mean as no one will be touching my Belgian chocolate waffle or my Le Cellier steak. June and John have loved my descriptions of the food and beverages for years now, so they are very ready to finally get their own chance at the F&WF.
Just catching up after a busy week and migraines which sidelined me...so sorry to hear about Luke's Aunt, however the service sounded like it was a wonderful remembrance of her life and not her passing.
Your F&WF booths list looks daunting and actually made me tummy growl...yummy yummy.

I have the sweetest video on my phone of Luke's Aunt singing at our last large family gathering. She always lead us in a big family sing, something I will really cherish now.
Every year when I get done writing up the list, I'm stunned by how long it is. I'll definitely let you all know what makes it off the list and into our bellies.

We are lucky that June and her family enjoy going with us. Luke's older sister has been once with her daughter's family and loved it. We're hoping some day to go with all of them, too. I have a couple of nieces and nephews who've asked about going with us and their young families some day. That all makes me quite happy! I do know we are very lucky!

Missing the F&WF to go to DL last October was the hard part, so I'm super ready to get back.
45th Anniversary (which is October 1) – long sleeve t-shirt, pin, and lounge pants
Food & Wine Festival – t-shirt and pin
Pandora Charm, especially the Mickey and Minnie Safety Chain
Halloween – dish towel set, tin Mickey head Jack-o-lantern, t-shirt, and pins (especially Star Wars ones)
Socks – Chip and Dale; Monorail
Of course, I may also discover something I’ve not heard of yet, like the collapsible measuring cups I got in May.
Artist Greg McCullough will be at The Art of Disney in Disney Springs September 28 – October 2, so we’ll stop in there probably on the Thursday night, which is his first night there.
This is the last of my pre-written updates, but I'm sure as the excitement builds over the next 18 days, I'll find something to write.
