Escaping The Brutal Northeast For Sunny, Warm Florida and Fun! Completed 7/12 - Page 24 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Too bad on the service. I'm so gunshy on the table service restaurants just for that very reason. If I'm paying table service prices, I want to be able to linger just a bit.
So glad you enjoyed your tour of the castle, and how neat to go through a backstage area out.
Looking forward to hearing how you finished your evening off.

Most of my experiences at TS eateries have been quite good. It's just every once in a while it isn't! This won't change anything regarding dining TS in the future.
The backstage was quite to exit the MK through!
The Beast's castle is something else and is so well themed. When you get the chance, take it all in and spend some time after your meal exploring it as it's so worth it!

I'm glad to see your photos of the entrance area. DH wasn't feeling well and we rushed out in a hurry.
Sorry to hear about the service. Ours was excellent, so you've got a good chance yours will be on your next visit.
Lamb chops are my go-to entrée, but I shy away from them when the word mustard appears anywhere in the description, as too many overdo it ... for this reason I went with the skirt steak & it was perfect.
You're right the theming is so beautifually detailed, everywhere in there. That kid doesn't look too thrilled to meet The Beast .
Congrats on getting your glasses back . I'm surprised you went backstage to get out, but glad they got you out efficiently. Twice I've swam "upstream" trying to exit around the time for MSEP, and its a little slice of torture. I bet they are realizing more that its not good for guests last memory of the day to be a struggle.

Good to hear that you had a nice experience at BOG! I'm hoping mine will be good on my next visit! They definitely over did the mustard with my lamb chops. I'm sure I'll go with something else the next time. Getting out of the MK through the backstage area worked rather well and efficiently! It can be a little crazy at times getting out of here in the past for MSEP or Wishes.

After leaving the Magic Kingdom, I had a couple of options and take the bus back to Riverside or do something else. Since it was only about 9:45 or so I thought tonight would be a good time and head over to the Grand Floridian and Mizner’s lounge. I haven’t been there in two years and it’s one of the best lounges in WDW. I walked to the resort monorails and up the ramp and waited for one of the monorails to pull in to the station. I only had to wait about a minute. I thought about taking one of the resort launches, but it would probably be a longer ride and the dock is at the opposite end of the resort and a bit of a walk from the main building where Mizner’s is. If I was going to Narcoossee’s, then that would be different and I’d probably opt for a boat.
The monorail was quite packed as many were leaving the MK at this point. We had the usual three stops before the GF and commentary as well, which I always enjoy as it makes my vacation experience at WDW even better! There were no delays and I arrived at the Grand Floridian in several minutes.
Near the theme pool of the GF
From the second floor deck of the main building at the Grand Floridian
I went to Mizner’s and immediately got a nice greeting from the bartender Tammi. She was surprised to see me and asked me, “Where Have You Been?” It’s funny how some of the CMs recognize you on future visits! I’ve gotten that in some restaurants in WDW as well. I told her I didn’t go to WDW in 2013 as I went to France instead. She thought that must have been a tough choice and must of had it rough over there with all the good food and wine! She said that I should have taken her along for the trip! Tammi is always in good spirits, entertaining and quite engaging. Always good to see her when I visit Mizner’s. She’s such a valued CM and one of the best in WDW! She told me she has been training some of the bartenders over at the just opened Four Seasons resort (on the site of the former Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines golf courses) and help them open up their bar business.
Tammi in action behind the bar!
Well, since I didn’t have my after dinner coffee and drink at BOG, I decided to have them here. I had a double espresso and a Grand Marnier. They don’t make the espresso here, but next door over at Citrico’s. That’s another fine WDW signature restaurant, if you ever get the chance! It was pretty busy in here and most here are staying in the resort. There were a few people at a table, who were part of a wedding party, but didn’t get married at the Grand Floridian Wedding Chapel, but were staying at the resort.
Even behind the bars at WDW, there is some great theming!
For those of you who haven’t been to Mizner’s a band plays behind the bar, just in front of the second floor concourse each night in the early evening. I like coming to Mizner’s before dinner for this reason, if I’m having dinner nearby.
A few of the patrons at Mizner’s winding down the evening just like I was.
Not sure what kind of drink this was, but it looked good as the person next to me at the bar was having one.
Like this in front of the band stand at the GF
It was getting a bit late and it was almost time to head back to Riverside, but first, I wanted to take the opportunity to get some photos inside this lavish resort and better yet in the late evening as I can get some good photos with not many people around, except in Mizner’s.
Love these chandeliers with the little lamps!
Most of these are taken from the second floor as you get these wide views.
One of the beautiful staircases at the GF with some better than this!
Adjacent to Mizner’s and the outside second floor deck
Second floor deck. Some come out here for drinks, others for cigars and some to take in the great views of Bay Lake and the Polynesian Resort.
The Grand Floridian’s Grand Staircase
Side entrance to the resort
Nice little lounge area on the second floor
Nice closeup of the lamps
Some even better perspectives of the Grand Staircase!
Interesting view of the GF’s ceiling and one of the lamp chandeliers!

Inside the main entrance
I hope you enjoyed this mini tour of the Grand Floridian. I know some people aren’t that crazy about the resort with its’ Victorian appointments and theming, but I enjoy it very much. I stayed here in 2010 on an eight night split stay between the French Quarter and enjoyed the resort very much. I also did the afternoon tea as well. I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this but I did, even though the price is a bit steep!
It was closing in on midnight at this point so I went outside through the main entrance and one of the CMs got a taxi for me to take back to Riverside. I returned just around midnight. It would be a fairly early wake up around 7 am tomorrow as I have my second golf round over at the Palm course at about 10 am.
NEXT: Not Until The Middle Of May?

I just loved loved loved seeing your pics of that resort. I stayed there the very first year it opened and have many fond memories of it. After reading your report of Mizner's I might just go here when I'm resort touring during my upcoming February visit with my daughter. I was hoping to go to the Poly, but it looks like construction will still be in full swing, so I'm rethinking that whole resort day. I might include some boat rentals and take her out on bay lake for a while and then a drink in the lounge (for me not her) if it is open in the late afternoon. Thanks again!

Glad I could bring back some great memories for you! Never, a WDW trip goes by in which I don't visit this resort! (only in my first trip in 2002, I didn't visit as I was a newbie ) The other resort I have to visit is the AKL! Once in a while I miss the latter as it's a bit out of the way, so I usually try to book an ADR there!
The Poly construction was just beginning on my trip in early April. The DVC resort section is going to be amazing and from the looks of it back then, it just may be the Tree House Villas on the water. Nothing wrong with that!
Bay Lake is the best place in the water areas of WDW for boat rentals as it's so open. You can cruise on your own all the way from the MK to Fort Wilderness. Quite an expansive territory for sure!
You should try Mizner's lounge at the GF as I think you'll like it for a drink and the ambiance! I think it opens at 5pm and you'll have the band playing behind the bar to put you in an even a better mood! Make sure you say hello to Tammi for me, if she's there that night!

Nice photos of the GF. I really enjoyed visiting here on my July trip. I kept looking at your carpet photos to see if I could spot hidden Mickey's!
I don't really get the horse theme, but I love that glass conservatory look. Also, I'm struck by how pink everything looks in your pictures even though I know those walls are white (right?)
By the way, someone is obviously telling me to give Mizner's a go.... I'm catching up on my WDW Radio podcasts and the one I'm on is a live review of... you got it... Mizner's!
Great shots from around the grand! I would be sooooo peeved if my water never came, as I drink about 3-5 glasses with a meal but sounds like you had some great service at mizners to make up for it!
Great photos from the Grand Floridian! In all our trips, we've never been to Mizner's... maybe we'll have to put that right on our next visit...
Glad you enjoyed the photos! Mizner's has a great feel to it and before dinner having a drink is always good! It doesn't have to be be a GF eatery, when you're on the monorail line. I've actually gone here before eating at Epcot as I just connect at the TTC and just give myself enough time. Usually, when I had a later dinner!
