A Disney Trip 10 Years in the Making. PTR 10/14 - 23/2011 - Page 24 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The other day Evan was curled up in MY bed with ME and his head was on MY shoulder. I rested my head against his and he yells out "get off me mom, I'm not a pillow, I'm a human being"
This literally made me crack up laughing. I can totally see that!

Too Cute!
I am once again all caught up on your TR, after a month of somehow missing it whenever you updated. I guess school is keeping me from haunting the boards as much as I used to. I am sorry about all the hassle with the airlines, but glad you at least got a small refund!
I found your trip report yesterday and have been enthusiastically reading it, finally all caught up now. I LOVE all your little "Evan" stories, and your back stories. They really add personality to your PTR.
We had an issue back in 2007 when we were going to Galveston for a cruise with the airline we were flying. It was JetBlue. We were flying out of Boston, was supposed to leave at 6am. Thankfully we decided to go up the afternoon before and stay overnight, because as we were having dinner, I got a message from JetBlue saying our flight was cancelled! We had decided to fly into Galveston the day before our cruise left, just in case, so I'm really glad we did, because we didn't end up getting on a flight until after 2:50....was supposed to arrive in Houston at 11:30pm or so...had a towncar waiting for us, and in the end because of all the delays at JFK, didn't get to Houston until after 2:30am....YIKES! Talk about stressful, I wasn't even sure the towncar was going to be there, but the guy who owned the company was the one picking us up and he assured us that he would be there.
Anyway, so I totally understand the stress that put on you.....it just screws up EVERYTHING else. We ended up boarding the ship feeling EXHAUSTED and we have the picture to prove it! (insert crazy face here.....can't seem to figure out why I don't have smilies for my posts.)

Hope you finish the chain in time for Evan to pull off the first link! The weight limit is such a drag now. I always make it with ease on the way to WDW, it's the trip back I worry about!
I'm almost done with the chain, I just need to attach to the wall but first need to take down some other "art" work.

It was a pain but hopefully that will be the last of the changes

I got my refund from the airline - cool! Glad you can stop in at any time, I know school comes first - and your own trip planning.

We did Thanks! I'm not sure Evan understood the spy story line but he liked the racing part and he like Mater and explosions so that worked out really well

Love the hat story. You don't have a photo of that, do you?
I'll have to see if I still have photos of it, I know we took some way back in the day.

Thanks for joing in. I'm so agrivated with the airlines I really just don't even want to fly anymore. Yikes - almosted missed your cruise...
We are 100 days today. Evan began his count down chain this morning. I explained it to him and then he told my SIL how it works so I think he gets it. It will be fun to see the links being removed and watching his excitement grow.
We were at the Disney store this weekend, I wanted to get him a Phineas and Ferb shirt but he picked out a Lion King one instead. It was from the “girl’s” side of the display shhh don’t tell him. It is yellow and has young Simba and Nala and says Best Friends on it. It has a few muted sparkles in the background and other than the sleeves being a little more shaped you wouldn’t know it was a girl’s shirt.
I also picked him up a little Mickey Mouse change wallet. It reminded me of the Donald Duck one I had when I was little so I HAD to buy it. Plus it was on clearance. Score!
I’ve decided I’m not going to book the Dessert Party or Fantasmic Dinner package. Neither are available on line at this time and whenever I call I’m told they are still not booking them. The dessert party was going to be a surprise but when I looked at my schedule again I just don’t think it is going to work. I’m going to look at having a gift basket delivered to the rooms instead. The dinner package was a long shot. Our HS day we are doing lunch at Prime Time Café and then to cram a dinner in on top of that was just too much. If we are lucky they will extend the nightly showing of F into October or at least add a second showing. If not we will brave the masses as the Tuesday we are there is the only day we can see it during our visit.
This past holiday weekend we went to see Cars 2 so that was our movie of the week. I don’t know about this week yet, I was thinking Robin Hood. I was trying to think of the movies my nephew loved when he was 5 years old, Robin Hood was one of them. We’ll see, now that it’s hot enough to go swimming and I finally have the pool set up, Evan spends a lot of time in there. It’s fine but it’s hard for me because I get nothing done because I just sit there and watch him.
As far as my diet goes I’m hoping that by writing this it will make me stick to it a little better. My sister has lost a lot of weight by managing her sugar intake (carbs) and I want to give it a try. I bought a motivational book that is supposed to help you through 100 days. I’m hoping I can really follow the program until vacation and see how things go.
I’ve lost weight before and gained and lost (like most people) but I NEVER diet while on vacation. That is my time away from everything. I always say my problem is NOT the 7, 10 or 14 days I’m on vacation if is the other 50 weeks of the year.
Wish me luck. I’m trying to get into a walking schedule again but it is hard as I used to walk at night 9pm-ish. Evan is in bed then so now I walk/aerobics in the house – just not the same and the poor dogs get nothing.
Anyway I’m just rambling today thanks for listening – really no new Disney news. My next project is going to be autograph books.
Random Disney story:
One time I got sick while on vacation to Disney. It was awful. I got strep throat. I ended up going to a clinic and got a shot of penicillin. I actually only missed one day of the trip to rest up so I guess that was a plus. Ever since then I start taking vitamin C about 1 month before my trip. This past winter I used Airborne everyday and I was the only one in my department to NOT get the flu or a cold (even though we all got flu shots). So this year I’ll take Vitamin C and Airborne. Because being sick on vacation is NOT fun.

Good luck with your weight loss! I too am on a low carb diet and I find it's been easier than I thought (although this past weekend I was bad, very very bad). Since I'm going to WDW during F&FW, I'm gonna throw the diet right out the window for a week!
I agree, no dieting on vacation! Good luck with the weight loss. I'm always worried I'll get sick on vacation. It's no fun when it happens, even if you only miss one day!
