Mad as a Hatter or Fidel Goes to Disney Trip Report Complete 9/27/10 - Page 24 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After dinner, and with a little time to spare we headed downstairs to the GF bus stop, stopping to admire the antique Caddy on the way out.
We got right on a bus to DHS and were very quickly arriving at the gate, through the bag check and into the park. We checked the board to see if there were FP available for ANYTHING. Nope, so we headed to the Tune in Lounge and managed to get seats at the bar rather quickly. Oh wait--story first. We went in the door to the actual lounge, not the door into the restaurant and there was a sullen looking teenager sitting on the floor with his feet on the wall, blocking entrance into the bar. It took him a minute to move and once we had passed, saying "excuse me," he put his feet right back up on the wall. Where were his parents? Sitting on the couch watching this happen. Did they say or do anything? A resounding no . . . this occurred at least twice more before the kid got smart and moved. Duh?
We got seats at the bar and I immediately had a flashback to December. When the bartender basically refused to acknowledge that any of us were standing there waiting for drinks. Guess what? Same bartender, same crappy service. This time however, I remembered to write down his name! I've got a note in my Iphone that says D*** from L*** is awful. Eventually we got our drinks. I had a margarita and Brandon had his without salt--against the rules, but . . . oh well. We got Blake a diet coke. Sharon arrived soon after us and never did get her drink because Tammy and her family arrived for their ducks! It was nice to meet you and your family Tammy!
We finished our drinks and headed out into the night. We rode the Nightastic ToT, which has some neat new effects, but I kind of miss the old one. The drop is pretty cool though. We hit the RnRc single rider line and then went over to TSMM. The wait time was rediculous, so we parted ways with Sha, as she had some ToT FPs to use up. We headed to Star Tours next. I'm glad I got one last ride on this one, but I'll be honest I'm glad they are redoing it. The ride is showing its age, and to be honest its the only ride at WDW that makes me queasy. We, and my somewhat upset stomach headed back to ToT for another go and I was feeling pretty tired after so I decided to get something to eat and head back to the hotel while the boys stayed to ride RnRc again.
Turns out I really just needed to eat something. I got, and devoured a whole cheeseburger and fries from Rosie's All American Cafe. It was pretty good--or I was pretty hungry--still not sure which. I texted Brandon to tell them I was feeling better and that if they wanted to I was game to wait for TSMM. They were, but they were hungry too--so they grabbed BBQ sammies from Fairfax. I got some ice cream while they were eating. Yeah yeah--Disney stomach.
We headed over to Toy Story and the wait was still long, but we got in line anyway. Then, it got interesting. There was a large party from Argentina about 3 families behind us. I think it was about 7 kids and 4 adults. Well just as we're entering the builiding 3 of the kids snake through the line to a gap 1 family in front of us. They start goofing off and motion for the rest of the family to push through the line and join them. One by one each of the little boys seem to end up ahead of us. The kids all appeared to be of the same age--I have no idea how--two families with multiple births or all about 9 mos apart. Who knows? Anyway--these kids are climbing all over everything. Balling up and throwing pieces of paper. Running back and forth in line. Eventually one of the father's joined the kids . . . and continues encouraging the bad behavior. We're laughing about it by this time with the family directly in front of us. By the time we get to the spot to pick up your 3-D glasses There are 9 people in front of us who weren't there before, by the time we got to the stairs the entire party had managed to squeeze in front of us--or climb over railings to join their party. I found it interesting that there are ZERO CMs policing this line. I had a brief conversation with the mother of the family directly behind us, as I noticed from their T shirts that they were from Baton Rogue. I say brief because I quickly ascertained that Mom was sloshed! This was by far the most entertaining hour I have ever spent waiting in line at WDW. Nope, that's right, I'm not complaining. All of the line craziness made the hour plus wait fly by!
I rode solo and Blake rode with Brandon. I believe I scored Beaver, but I didn't write it down, so I'm not positive. Everyone really enjoyed the ride and I was honestly glad we had waited, but now everyone was really tired--not surprising considering that I hadn't napped and we'd been up and about really early to get to breakfast.
All in all it was a wonderful birthday! Thanks to everyone who shared it with me! We caught the boat back to the Beach Club and went to sleep. I think we were all ready for it!
The weather today was . . . HOT again, with sun and clouds
The best thing today was . . . Blake= DUMBO, Brandon = dinner, Heather = seeing Sharon!
The worst thing today was . . . bad parenting
The funniest thing today was . . . really bad jokes told by the driver of the boat back to the beach club. I'm going to give it my best shot, but forgive me if it lacks the ouch factor:
Three women die and are greeted at the pearly gates by St Peter, who admits them to Heaven, which is, for some unknown reason, populated by lots of ducks. Peter advises them to have a great time, but not to step on the ducks. The punishment for stepping on a duck is to be chained to the ugliest man in heaven for eternity. A few months go by and the women are really enjoying themselves, until one of them steps on a duck. She is immediately taken away by Peter and chained to a stooped over, ugly man with a huge nose! The two remaining women continue their revelry until one of them steps on a duck a few weeks later. She too is immediately grabbed by Peter and cuffed to a man with warts and hair all over his body.
The last woman spends her days lounging on clouds and drinking mead. Suddenly Peter appears with a gorgeous man who he chains to her. The woman thinks to herself, "This must be my reward for following all the rules." Outloud she just says thank you to St Peter. She turns to the Adonis and says, "How did I get so lucky?"
He says I have no idea, Last thing I remember was I was drinking a beer, next thing I know I'm lying on a pile of dead ducks and now I'm chained to you!
Bad . . . really bad--all they way back to the BC.
Today I tried . . . Storm Along Bay and the result was . . . a slight sunburn, but a great time catching up with Sharon!
The most magical moment today was sharing my birthday with some great friends!!!!!
Tomorrow--will I make an early morning at AK and an unplanned PP meet!
Finally a picture I forgot to post in the birthday morning update that I just love:
That's a great picture at MK.
And a great joke from the boat!! Like an after-hours Jungle Cruise!! Kidding.
What a great way to end the evening. But I have to wonder - the sloshed mother in the Toy Story line, I wonder how she did while spinning around on the ride?

I am impressed you did so much at DHS that night and still made park opening the next morning. The TSM line jumpers story still makes me chuckle. I'm sure it was so worth it to them to be able to ride 60 seconds sooner.
