As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

What a fun day at MK and I am so excited for Luke that he can finally see colors that he never could see before!!! It's literally a "whole new world" for him. I always find it interesting to see SM lit up when they're having mechanical issues and you were able to get some good photos of it too!
What an awesome MK day! How very cool that they make sunglasses that help with color blindness! And nice that you were able to get a discount because I’m sure they were not cheap! I’ve wandered in there once or twice to browse and usually turn right around when I see the price tags.
I have to say you do look a bit uneasy on Seven Dwarfs MineTrain! Sorry you are not doing well on these rides this trip.
According to Nicole, Oakley only realized after they made the Prizm lenses that they helped color blindness. She made a note of what worked best for Luke to share with others who might have issues with the same colors.

I keep calling Luke's sunglasses our best ever souvenir. They are amazing!
I love the new shades!! What a wonderful morning in MK!!! even with the rides down, you guys managed well!! I am so glad that they came back and you guys got to ride 7DMT and most especially that you enjoyed it!!
Thanks! When Luke has the new sunglasses on, he points out any colors he knows he still hasn't seen before.

Luke doesn't mind carrying the camera for me, but I tell him it is easier if I do because otherwise, it might not be handy when a great photo opportunity comes up.

We never expected to find sunglasses that helped him see colors. Great bonus from this trip. Luke was try to stretch as much as possible with the camera without standing up in our TTA car. I think it did a terrific job.
Once we exited the Magic Kingdom, we made our way up to the resort monorail for the trip to the Polynesian. The monorail was very crowded and we had to stand until we arrive at the Contemporary when a seat became available as folks exited to this resort. At the Poly, we checked out the gift shop before finding a comfy couch in the lobby. I took notes for yesterday and today just as I had when we relaxed at the Wilderness Lodge. Very nice to relax our feet. We took advantage of the restrooms here, and that was when I realized that sitting on the high couch in the lobby had putt a strain on my hips. My walk to the restroom was slow and uncomfortable.
Around 6:35 we climbed the stairs to the second floor to enter the check-in line for ‘Ohana. By 6:40 were checked in and the staff had my cell number to text us when our table was ready. We found some comfy chairs and had only sat down for about three minutes when I received a text to come to the hostess podium. We were taken straight back to the far end left to a table along the central aisle. Our waitress Janita was a bit ditsy, but very sweet. She first got our drink orders – a spicy poblano margarita for Luke and a glass of Banfi Rosa Regale sparkling wine for me.
This meal starts with pineapple-coconut bread and a mixed greens salad with a Lilikoi dressing. Both were excellent. Next on the menu were the appetizers: pork dumplings tossed in garlic-ginger sauce sauces and honey-coriander chicken wings served with peanut and sweet-n-sour sauces. We thoroughly enjoyed both of these. The appetizers were followed by two sides noodles tossed in a teriyaki sauce and stir-fried vegetables. Again, we found these to be tasty, and we cleaned the platter.
Time now for the skewers: Sweet-n-Sour Chicken, Szechuan Sirloin Steak, and Spicy Grilled Peel-n-Eat Shrimp all prepared over an oak fire and served again with peanut and sweet-n-sour sauces. Luke loved all three skewers. I enjoyed the chicken, but the steak was way too bloody for me, and I abhor eating peel and eat shrimp because it’s just so messy. I tried one hunk of steak but managed only one bite. I did get Juanita to bring me more chicken and pots stickers.
Now the finale to this meal is Bread Pudding à la mode which is topped with caramel sauce and bananas that so many folks have raved about. Unanimously, we were not impressed. We neither one liked it and only managed a bite each. In fact, Juanita brought Luke a chocolate cupcake for his birthday and we shared that as it was more delicious than the bread pudding.
For all my pre-trip excitement this meal was not what I had expected and anticipated. We were full when we left, but this meal is just not us. We probably won’t be back as it is an expensive meal and one that I didn’t eat much of. Some contributing factors were the late hour (We usually eat around 5:00 to 6:00. A 7:00 PM dinner just doesn’t settle as well for us.) and the combined side effects of my all-day Dramamine and my sparkling wine. We are glad we tried it once, but now it’s been there done that, don’t need to do it again.
From the Poly we took the monorail bac to the Magic Kingdom, walked to the bus stop, and soon had a ride back home to Kidani Village. We immediately got ready for bed and I for one fell asleep quickly. Luke told me he watched three quarters of Sunday Night Football before he too fell asleep. Thus ends another Disney day.

I have always wanted to eat at 'Ohana but there is literally nothing DH would eat there, not even the bread. If everything was plain and flavored with just butter, salt and pepper he'd be fine.

Sorry you were not big fans of ‘Ohana. I agree peel and eat shrimp are a pain to eat. I am trying to recall the last time we ate at ‘Ohana...I don’t remember peel and eat shrimp. I’m thinking it was chicken, beef and pork. I’m going to have to look that up.
Well, at least you’ve tried it, and now you know you don’t need to go back.
ETA - I looked back at several TRs that included ‘Ohana and it was indeed shrimp!
So sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the bread pudding. Personally I have found it to be an ABSOLUTE JUSTIFICATION for Homicide. Sort of with you on the Peel and Eat Shrimp, but I will make exceptions.
Sorry to hear your meal at 'Ohana was a bit of a letdown. I dined there once back in 2010 and enjoyed mot of it. I did not like the bread pudding at all as not my thing. I liked the skewers and other parts of the meal. My favorite may have been the honey/lime vinaigrette for the salad which I thought was incredible! I liked watching the show in the open kitchen. I may go back but so many better options.

I would have enjoyed pork more than shrimp, but I guess that's never been offered.

We just didn't get the bread pudding at all. But then I'm rather partial to chocolate desserts.
