DrDolphin's Great California Adventure *COMPLETED* - Page 24 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

And this is pretty

I love the storyline on this ride - Drink, Drive, Go to jail, then go to He** -- Obviously Paris Hilton hasn't ridden Mr. Toad in awhile.

Karen, Tina, Sharon and Janine had kindly offered to allow me to join their tour of the Disneyland hotel - so we headed over there from DCA. Of course - this is where Sarah and I were staying -- but I had not taken many photos (even though I had also been in the main tower while having dinner with Tina and Liz earlier in the week).
Floor mat when you enter the hotel
Karen went and checked us in - and soon we were joined by CM Ryan
While we were waiting for Ryan - I took more photos
Mural when you enter the DLH
Your hosts.... Mickey and Minnie Mouse!
There were photos and memorabilia all over the place and I took lots and lots of photos
One of my favorite Walt photos....
Memorabilia wall - including -
We learned the history of the hotel - how Walt didn't have the money originally - but convinced a friend to build it and manage it. I even found a Hidden Mickey
We went out into the center courtyard - near the old "Marina" - which is now the swimming Neverland pool area.
Looking across the pool toward the Bonita Tower -- our room is one of those baloneys.....
DLH Topiaries
Neverland Pool -
CM Ryan - right at the end of our tour. He took a photo of all of us - I think Tina's posted it before (I want a copy!!!)
After the tour - I headed over to DCA to meet up with Sarah and Emilie. I can't remember where the others went.
I made it back over to DCA, called Sarah and found out they were headed for the redwood Creek area.
When I found them - Emilie was demonstating her skills in rope swinging..
Looked like such fun - I wish the adults could do it too!
We climbed up on the rope bridges - EMilie and I climbed out on them - but not Sarah...
I think she'd had her fill of high up things earlier in the day.
Sarah and I realized it was almost parade time. We headed over by Paradise pier and found a good place to grab a seat for the parade - and it had enough room for others too. While we were there - I saw a little redheaded boy just sobbing..... His dad was there with another little boy - who I assumed was the younger brother and there was nothing he could do to console the boy.
I started to talk to him and ask why he was crying at Disneyland. I learned he is the middle boy - and was just a little too short for Mulholland Madness - but his big brother got to go - and he was so upset since he had been looking forward to this for a long time. I told him that he now had a reason to tell mom and dad he had to come back to DL -- and he sobbed "No - I don't want to come back". I felt so sad for him.
After a bit - I saw the little boy go over to an ice cream stand near us and return with nothing and more tears. His dad told me that he couldn't make up his mind... awww... I got up and went and bought 2 mickey bars - one for the little boy (I wish I could remember his name - Colin maybe??) and one for his brother. I took the bars to the boys - and I said mickey had heard he was crying and sent the Mickey bars because Mickey didn't want anyone to cry at DL.
Not too much longer - others in teh group called us and met us in our seating area. WHile we were waiting for the parade - some of us RAN down to California Sreamin' for another ride on that fun fun rollercoaster - before heading back for the parade.
Emilie taught Karen and Dawn how to play "Red Light Green Light" - Eileen's take on the directions were pretty much spot on - but much like Buzz lightyear - Karen and Dawn turned this into a contact sport as well -
The Cast Members started the parade
And then the floats started by
And then the float with Flik and crew stopped in front of us -
The guys had these springy things on their feet - and they jumped really high...
They had "The Sarge" out yelling instructions to the crowd -- and eventually getting a group of us (yes - I said US - as in me) out dancing in the street - I had a great time -and I am sure there are LOTS of incriminating photos of me boogying - but was having a blast - and frankly didn't care if there were photos!!
After the parade - Sarah, Emilie and I headed back over to MK for the evening - we wanted to ride the Haunted Mansion, and get some dinner --
We headed to Rancho del Zocalo for dinner - it was pretty cold that evening - and after getting my meal - I asked at CM to come and light the propane heater near our table.
I had the steak tacos - it was ok
I don't remember what Sarah and Emilie had - but I know we were all quickly fading and we decided to head for MSUSA to catch the fireworks and then leave for the evening.
We saw the fireworks again, from MSUSA with Liz, Robin, Cindy and Janine (we ran into a couple of them - and called others) - had some of the best hot chocolate I've had in a long time (thanks Roomie!!!) and ran into most of the girls headed into the park for the evening - looks like they were all very.... HAPPY. Yep - that's the word. Happy... pink cheeks and noses and all. We said goodbye to most of the girls - at least those that were leaving in the morning - a few of us were staying one more additional day - but not in Disney resorts.
On the way out - Sarah wanted to show me some of the sight gags on MSUSA - like
The painless dentist....
We also stopped by the Emporium and saw one of the artists drawing the background for someone's watch - it was amazing to see this being developed -
On the way out of the park for the evening - we stopped and asked a CM to take a picture or two -
We headed back to the room, settled into bed and were all asleep very quickly.
Fabulous update!
Kudo's to you for trying to cheer up Colin...hope the Mickey Bar did the trick.
I think it is great you had a blast 'shaking your booty' down the streets of DL!
Looking forward to more...
