SuperDave's Adventures in Eastern France's Wine Country COMPLETE!! 6/13 - Page 23 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry, that I wasn't able to provide more of my TR this weekend! I work in the retail food industry, so this is obviously a big week for me! Working many more hours than normal! I should include another update, just after Turkey Day! Usually, it's been weekends, when I've been able to do this!
Lots of great updates to come with 4+ days left in my trip as part of the TR to come!!

No problem! We've been quite busy here and we're retired so I totally get not always having time to write.
It can be tough at times getting around to do it. Will certainly be some more updates by this weekend!

We left the lovely town of Annecy at around 1:30 pm for our next destination of Vaison La Romaine, where we'd be staying for the next three nights. It was a two hour drive to the next rest stop and another 1 1/2 hours after that to Vaison La Romaine. Our coach driver, Hilda had a supply of beverages in the small fridge up front, so I decided to have a small bottle of Chardonnay for the bus trip. It was like one of those small bottles you get on a flight, but much better. A few others, including Jerry and Christina decided to indulge as well. After, finishing my glass of wine it didn't take long till I was out for a little snooze time to just before arriving at our rest stop! I’m sure having the half bottle of wine for lunch helped matters! I woke up just prior to arriving at our rest stop.
We made a highway rest stop at just after 3:30 pm. Had my usual double espresso. That helped wake me up a bit. Nothing great about the scenery here and just your basic highway stop. We left for Vaison La Romaine at close to 4 pm.
Finally, arrived in Vaison La Romaine at about 5:45 pm. Hilda dropped us off in the car park down in the lower town. We’d be walking it uphill to the upper down. Buses are not allowed in the upper down as the limited roads there are just too narrow. We all grabbed our bags and started our walk to our next hotel.
View of the Upper Town on the walk there
River that divides the Upper and Lower Town
The walk was only about ten minutes, but was quite uphill. We arrived at our hotel, the Hotel Belfroi. It dates back to the 16th century. I knew this would be quite a place, I’d be staying in. Most of our group were staying in the main building, but a couple of us myself and one other single, Jill were in another building next door.
Lovely little courtyard and gardens in rear of hotel.
Narrow street in front of our hotel. This really looks like France and Provence!
More of courtyard and gardens of Hotel Belfroi. Nice view here. Several of us hung out here for a while and enjoyed this with a glass of Rose from Provence before dinner!
Inside on ground floor in part of hotel I was staying in.
What a beautiful room! The door on the left is my room! My room actually doesn’t have a number but a name. It’s Anis!
Dinner tonight, would be in the hotel at 7:30 pm. We’d be having it in another little courtyard of the hotel. After getting settled in my room a bit, I went to the main building and to the courtyard to meet my tour companions for dinner.
What a great dining area! So much personality! Loved this and was such a great evening to have dinner outside.
Dinner started off with bottles of house water and various French breads. I ordered a half bottle of Rose Wine from Provence. It was quite good and would accompany the meal tonight, rather well. It was a set menu for tonight, but I would have no problem with that. The first course was pea soup with cappuccino cream and a parmesan cracker. It was quite different than your standard pea soup and enjoyed it quite a bit.
The main course was pan fried cod fish in a flavorful lemon and wine sauce with peppercorns and vegetables. This was also quite good and the sauce and fish had so much flavor.
Dessert was brownies with nougat accompanied by a berry sauce. Enjoyed this, even though quite simple for a French dessert. We were also served an after dinner drink of some kind. I think it was some kind of berry liqueur.
Our group at dinner.
After dinner, returned to my room for a bit and then headed to the lower town at around 9:30 pm. Found a café and had an espresso , a Grand Marnier and a glass of Rose. It was quite busy and many were dining here as well. I forget the name of the place, but would be where, I’d have lunch tomorrow. I was seated inside, but they had the canopy open. I’m sure you know what’s coming next! Well it began to pour and I got up and grabbed my espresso and Grand Marnier. The rain was really coming down and they put the canopy down, pretty fast. I found a dry table to go to, so all was good now. There was a nice view of the outside and the square which has numerous stores and cafes around it!
The rain subsided after about 15 minutes. I spent a little more time here and walked back to the Upper Town and my hotel at around 11:45 pm.

Great pictures from Vaison La Romaine! Dinner looks superb!
Glad you liked the photos! Dinner was fantastic in a great outdoor setting with weather to match! Although, the best may be such a great and historic hotel. How can you beat a place like this?

This hotel looks so very neat! Dinner looked delicious, too.
The hotel was amazing, especially since it dates back to the 16th century! Such a wow moment! Definitely, the best hotel of my trip! That's out of 7 of them! What a great dinner and such a great ambiance with that outdoor setting and weather too!

Wonderful hotel, especially the courtyard where you had dinner. Just charming!
It was that and some! Just loved it! It was a great evening and the setting having a great dinner, is something you can only feel unless you're there. Just a great night!
