Where are the kids? At home with their Dads! TR April 13-19, 2010 - Page 23 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

*Disclaimer: Everything that I write in this trip report is strictly from memory. I know, I know...I am usually the note taker, obsessive about keeping dining receipts and all that. Well, I will right now admit that I didn't take notes and Heather stole all the dining receipts! So she will have to report that.
I promise to do my best to share with all of you just how much fun I had on this trip. So....hang on because here we go!!!!!
Guess who couldn't sleep the night before? I was so excited that I didn't need to alarm clock to wake me up. I hopped out of bed and got ready for this day to start. I had to finish packing a few last minute items. Speaking of packing I ended up bringing a very large suitcase, a smaller carry-on suitcase and my big Vera Bradley Miller bag. I admit that I need help I am not a light packer!
I got the girls ready for school. Since our next stop was the airport we just dropped them off for school instead of them catching the bus. I think they handled it better than I did. I knew I was going to miss them alot!
We made it to the airport around 9:15am or so. Zach helped me get all my luggage out of the van. I gave a him a hug and a smooch good-bye Said see ya next week and I was off! I then schleped all my luggage into the front door myself. Then right around the corner were Alma and Judy! This was the very first time that I met Judy in person. I felt like I knew her already from taking through emails. I was so excited to meet her. We got in line at the Airtran counter to check our bags and donate our $15. Breezed through security and found our way to our gate easily. We had plenty of time to get a sandwich and chat before boarding. Plus I got to text Heather a bit too! I was so excited to see her! Could we get to Orlando already? Unfortunately, our flight was a bit delayed due to weather in Atlanta or something. But it wasn't too long 10-15 minutes at the most. We finally were boarding and on our way to Orlando.
Funny thing is that we were supposed to get in before Heather, but due to our delay-she beat us there! I got a text from her that she was waiting for us at DME! YAY!!!! After a potty break and tram ride I had to stop by baggage claim b/c I was able to gate check my one bag. Which was nice and FREE! If I were smarter, I would have slapped a DME tag on it. I'll remember that for next time!
Then I saw her! My friend Heather! I was so excited to see her! Introduced her to Alma and Judy and we were off to get in the DME line. If I remember correctly (no notes remember) we got in line but walked right on to a DME bus!
Here we are!
It wasn't long before we were on Disney property
We didn't go in the way that I'm used to. We went over past Downtown Disney. I know we were not the first stop...I think. Again, no notes It didn't matter because we were there! We had made it and the sun was shining and it was beautiful! We pulled into Old Key West! This was my first time and I was so happy to be there with these friends!
We went in to check in and the front desk was so cute with all these balloon letters that said "welcome home"
Check in was pretty easy. Especially since I had done the online check in. We did get a cute CM who was "earning her ears". She did a good job, but I think we confused her a little. We had to pay for our DDP and we were all paying separate. Really not a big deal and if you ask me we helped her learn something new. Soon enough we were headed to our home!
Continued in next post-pictures of our home for the next 6 days
Oh another disclaimer: Unknown to me, my date stamp on my camera had the wrong year. So all my pictures are stamped with 2009. I knew I never used that for a reason! UGH!
Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure of our 2 BR Villa at OKW.
Living room
Dining area
Kitchen-where I will now admit that I didn't cook one thing the whole time I was there. Except toasting a bagel.
Master Bathroom Check out this tub!
And this is the only time we were in that tub all week long
I guess the thought of being able to use it if we wanted to is nice, right? LOL!
Master bedroom
Second bedroom
Second bathroom
Balcony with patio table/chairs
There ya have it. Our home for the next 6 days. I wanted to move in there. I was beautiful! If any of you have any reservations about staying at OKW, get rid of them! This resort is just wonderful. I will share some more pics of the pool and grounds a bit later.
Forgot to tell you all that I had placed an order with Garden Grocer. I got a call from them while I was still at the airport. So they left everything will bell services. I just called bell services to bring our stuff over. I was very happy with their service and would use them again for sure. Just keep in mind that you have to eat what you order.
After settling in we headed over to downtown disney to browse a bit before dinner that night.
We grabbed a little snack at Earl.
Judy sorry those flowers are in your face!
Then we did some shopping. I needed a pin lanyard. And some one made a great purchase at Tren-D, but I will let her tell you all about that.
So I'm going to end there for now and let my cohorts catch up/add what ever I forgot.
UP NEXT: Goin' big the first night with a fabulous dinner at California Grill!
Wonderful update Ginger! I am dying to stay at OKW one day. It looks beautiful, and I'm sure your pictures don't do it justice. Sorry to hear you got delayed in Atlanta. It looks like a wonderful start to your trip. More please!
Great start! We d OKW when we stayed there in June 2007. Very nice resort! Luke told me the other night that he had read somewhere that OKW was about to undergo refurbishment. Thinking of you all eating at EoS has now made me hungry. Great pictures, too!
Great start - and what a beautiful room! Shame you didn't get in that tub again though....
I know it is a shame isn't it! I should have taken a big ole bubble bath!

Thanks Becki! We didn't get delayed in Atlanta. The plane coming to get us in Canton was delayed in Atlanta prior to it's take off. So that put us a little behind. We had a direct flight.
