The Walt Disney World/Disneyland Double Dip Trip! - UPDATED 7/11 w/FINAL THOUGHTS - Page 23 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I guess everyone wants to ride Pooh with me, because this has happened to me before (though that woman got in behind me with one kid and left her DH and other kid flat).
When you mentioned getting on Pooh, I wondered if you'd have unexpected company!! What a riot, Sharon.
You're like a Pooh magnet! (wait... that doesn't sound so good )
And you know that I ADORED all of your pics in Fantasyland. It was like getting a hug from my favorite place on earth!
Well you are a trip writing queen too. You have SO surpassed Miss Eileen in terms of keeping up! Ooops, just kidding Eileen - I know you've been busy!
Hey... I resemble that remark
Seriously... blame my boss. He was supposed to be out all day, so I brought in my notebook and was going to shamelessly update both TRs. Sigh... now I have to do work and sneak in little peaks at the boards.
Before I get started, let me say that this segment has a lot of photos. Even for me. After resizing, uploading and inserting all of the pictures, I don’t really feel like writing this segment at all. So I’ll sort of narrate the photos and be back to actual TR writing in the next segment.
Also, these pictures are from the Pirate & Princess Party, so if you don’t want to see lots of pictures of the fireworks and parade, just skip this update entirely.
Now, on with the TR…
So I spent my break doing my least favorite activity … laundry. But at least I had a good reason for doing laundry – I needed clean clothes for the second half of my Disney vacation!
I set out for the TTC, and when I arrived, I noticed that they’d decorated for the party. This is a stealth picture taken while driving (slowly), but don’t attempt this if you don’t have my mad photo skillz.
When I got in the park, I still had a bit of time before my ADR at the Plaza, and I noticed that the Dream Along With Mickey show was going on in front of the castle, so I watched it. It took me a few minutes to realize that this show featured the new animated heads. It was pretty natural, in my opinion, which is why I didn’t notice right away.
Note Donald’s closed eyes – I caught him mid-blink
Once that ended, I checked in for dinner and was seated almost immediately. The Plaza is very quaint and cozy, and I enjoy the food. I got a cheese steak, which I enjoyed.
I don’t have in my notes whether or not I ordered a dessert, and I can’t find the receipt for this meal. Also, I don’t have a picture of a dessert and of course I don’t remember. But you know, not ordering a dessert doesn’t sound like me at all, so I’m just going to guess that I had some sort of ice cream dessert.
I wanted to be in Adventureland for the start of the P&PP, so I could get a photo with Captain Jack before the line got too long, so I went that way. The Jungle Cruise had a 40 minute wait. Pirates didn’t have a wait, so I queued up. I thought that was a fitting start to my evening.
When I came out, Wishes was on, but it wasn’t even really dark yet, so I figured I’d use that time to ride BTMRR. I was able to ride it twice in a row. Then I headed back to see Captain Jack, but the line was already two hours long. I guess they opened the line before the official start of the Party. I didn’t want to waste that much time on line, so I decided to try again at the end of the night.
My next stop was the Haunted Mansion, which is one of my very favorites. Then I spent a little time in Fantasyland.
While in Fantasyland, I walked right onto SWSA. Then I decided that I’d try to get my own hunnypot on Pooh. Well, wouldn’t you know it, the same thing happened to me again. Another family of four climbed in my hunnypot. I think because so many people seem to want to ride it with me, I’ll just hold a “Ride Pooh with PrincessSharon” meet during my next trip!
I headed to Toontown next on a mission: ride Goofy’s Barnstormer. Now Goofy is my favorite character, but I’ve never ridden his coaster. I just never wanted to wait for it. But I knew I could walk right on tonight. I’m sorry I waited so long, because the queue is so much fun!
The ride isn’t bad for what it is. I’ll definitely be riding it again. While I was in the area, I snapped a photo of Miss Daisy.
When I came in the park, I didn’t get a treat bag, so I grabbed one then and got some booty (boy does that sound dirty ) The little treasure bag is cute.
I wanted to take the Pirate cruise on the Liberty Belle, so I walked back over to Liberty Square. I enjoyed the cruise, but was a little disappointed that there was a taped narration rather than a live storyteller like they used to have at MNSSHP. I even got a few good shots.
It was here that I discovered I got the best results on the “auto” setting. Why didn’t I try that first? Duh! I wanted to get a good spot for Magic, Music and Mayhem because I’d heard so many raves about it. I spotted Cinderella’s Wicked Stepmother on the way, which was great, but I was a little disappointed that her daughters weren’t with her. I did get a photo with Lady Tremaine.
I found a great spot near the tip board to watch the fireworks and got this shot of the castle to make sure I had the hang of taking night shots.
I have to say that Magic, Music and Mayhem was the most spectacular fireworks display I’ve seen in the MK, and all those raves I’d heard were well deserved. If you don’t want to see my gazillion pictures of the fireworks, just skip the next few posts. For those of you still here, here’s Magic, Music and Mayhem (the gazillion pictures version ).
It starts out with a Princess theme, and all lovely princessy fireworks and lighting effects.

At one point, it actually looks like the Castle is on fire!
I got a terrific shot of Tink on her flight (in focus and everything), but there was a lamp post in the way, and it happens to be right in front of her, so you can only see bits of her sticking out from behind. I’ll be hitting the P&PP in August, so I hope to get a good shot of her then.
After having seen it I can tell you, the Pirate & Princess Party is worth the price of admission just for the fireworks. And if you attend the P&PP, for heaven’s sake DO NOT MISS THE FIREWORKS!!!!
Once MM&M was over, I headed to my favorite parade-watching spot in Frontierland. I was able to snag it, and settled in to watch the parade. This was a very enjoyable parade as well with the same sort of storyline as the fireworks – first Princesses, then Pirates (including Captain Jack Sparrow!)
I got so excited when Captain Jack came around that I moved the camera and got a blurry shot. When I recovered and took another, this is the result…
Behold – the back of Captain Jack Sparrow
Once the parade passed, I cut through to Adventureland and rushed to the hub to try for another photo of Capt. Jack (cue Mission Impossible music). Did I make it?
So that’s what he looks like!
Look at how both Goofy and Chip are waving at me. Something tells me they’re doing this because I was hollering like a fool.
Now that I had the hang of night shots, I had to get one of the Partners statue.
Then I decided to try and get some character photos. I headed back to AL where Captain Jack was, but the line was still 90 minutes, so no photo with the Captain. So I headed to Toontown again. There I found Pirate Goofy
While waiting to see Pirate Mickey, I found a Hidden Mickey, which, considering how easy it was to find, I can’t really get too excited about.
Mickey loved my “Pirate Princess” ears, and decided to pose like we were dancing.
Then I went to see Pirate Donald over by his boat. Donald was furious that I had on Pirate Mickey ears and a Mickey icon on my sweatshirt. He made me cover up the Mickey on my sweatshirt before he agreed to take a picture with me!
I went inside the tent to get more photos, but the lines in there were all really long. Oh well, something else for August. I just spent the rest of the time wandering around, snapping pics.
You’ll notice that, like a true princess, I left the party at the stroke of midnight. The Party was actually running until 12:30, but I had an early flight to catch the next day.
When I got home, I finished up my packing and set a wakeup call for 6:00 a.m. It was 1:00 when I climbed into bed. Ugh! BUT!! Instead of going home in the morning, I was heading West!
Not sure how this happened, but I ended up writing a lot more than I intended. Just pretend you didn’t read the part where I said this would be a photo narrative.
Up Next: California, Here I Come!
