Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I know I've said this to you many times but you have such an attention to detail with your photographing! I'm not sure that I even noticed the adorable Halloween Disney characters in the Main Street shops! We love having our Starbucks breakfast and just relaxing under the umbrella seated area first thing in the morning at the MK! Glad you were able to get those ornaments taken care of at The Christmas Tree Shop. It was chaotic in there the entire trip but probably due to how small it felt inside with the refurbishment going on. You always look like you're having the best conversations with Mary Poppins.

In those castle pictures it looks like you have half a set of red Mickey ears! Kind of a Mickey Van Gogh vibe!

We got a FP for any of the big rides in case SDMT never opened back up, but thankfully, it did.

I sometimes think I'd make a decent PhotoPass Photographer, but it's just too hot in Florida to live there more than a couple of weeks.

Thanks! I love searching out the details, big and small. Ye Old Christmas Shop was chaotic. I felt I couldn't move without bumping into someone, but we were able to find both the ornaments we were looking for.

What Color Are the Flowers on that Tree? PINK!

Sunday, October 14, 2018 Part 2

After my chat with Mary Poppins, we still had some time before our second FastPass of the day. I remembered the Sunglass Hut in Adventureland and mentioned checking in there for some new sunglasses for Luke. In the store, we went straight to the Oakley display. Shortly after Luke and I began trying on a few, Nicole, the store manager popped over, asking if we needed any help. I first asked about the youth Oakleys I had seen at the shop in Disney Springs. But she told me that a lady needs glasses made for a lady, and I needed ones that showed off my beauty. She then told me that she had a pair of Prizm sunglasses that would look perfect on me. I tried them on, and she was spot on. She now focused on Luke who first asked about the Prizm lenses, wondering if they were as good as polarized. Nicole let us know that Prizm was Oakley’s new solution to polarization. At some point Luke mentioned he was color blind but hoped to find a pair that would allow him crisper vision. Nicole at this point was so excited because one of the newly discovered benefits of the Prizm lenses was that they help some with colorblindness. At this point she began describing the various Prizm lens colorings and how each helped the different types of colorblindness. Luke has issues with browns, creams, greens, and pinks. They all look just the same to him. I find this so sad. Nicole pulled five different pairs with each of the different colorings and called Jordan over to take us outside to see which would work best for Luke. Nicole told me to leave mine on to see if they were all she had told me they would be. They were.

Nicole had lined up the glasses in a particular order, so Jordan handed them off to Luke for him to try. The first did nothing. The second improved some colors, but they were once he really doesn’t have trouble seeing. The third pair worked similarly to the second. But then the fourth (the pair he had initially tried on when we walked in) opened up a world of unseen color to him. He looked across the way to a tree with pink flowers, asking me what color the flowers were. I told him pink, and he said I see it. Luke could see pink! Awesome! He then looked over at Aladdin’s Magic Carpet ride, asking if the colors were always that vibrant on the ride. Sure they are! There was still one more pair to try, which worked almost as well. In the end pair four was the winner. I had not intended to purchase a pair for myself, but Luke and I both like the smaller size of these. Then Nicole and Jordan worked some Disney magic with discount, getting us 30% off of Luke’s and 10% off of mine. Sweet! Trust me, there will be many more “Luke can see pink” stories as the trip goes on.

Mine are on the left and Luke's are on the right.

Clad in our new sunglasses we headed to Jungle Cruise where we had Skipper Michael who was stupendous and possible our best skipper ever.

Where I was seated aboard our boat made photography difficult, and then I was very entertained by Skipper Michael. All that to say, I took minimal photos.

After a brief stop at the restrooms in Adventureland, we noticed on the My Disney Experience app that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was now running. With a little apprehension because of yesterday’s motion sickness on Slinky Dog Dash, I headed with Luke to use our original first FastPass. Even the FastPass queue was a bit backed up, probably because the ride had been down for most of the day. Soon enough though we were aboard our mine car whipping around curves and hills, and unfortunately, I was nauseous again, kind of a theme for this trip and me. Thankfully, it was nowhere near as bad as yesterday.

Next we went to Casey’s Corner for some lunch. I’m usually very good about saving receipts so that I get them safely home. Somehow the one for Casey’s didn’t make it. That leaves me with only an inkling of what we had. I’m sure we both got hot dogs and fries, and since I never get a footlong, I’m guessing mine was a regular dog and Luke got the footlong as he usually does. One way or the other, we took our meals to the tall tables in Tomorrowland Terrace to eat in the shade and relative coolness.

Our third FastPass was for Space Mountain. Most of you know that I no longer ride this one but getting FastPasses means Luke gets to ride it twice. Sadly, Space Mountain was down. Because of that, Luke asked to ride Tomorrowland Transit Authority in hopes of getting some photos of Space Mountain with the lights on. And he did manage a few.

We could tell when we exited TTA that Space Mountain was still down. Off to Carousel of Progress for some downtime in the air conditioning. Truthfully, we both love this attraction. We just relaxed and absorbed each scene, though I think during one of the scenes I might have catnapped. No photos. We checked again as we exited CoP, and Space Mountain was still down. Up next Monster, Inc. Lots of laughter and joking.

Finally, Space Mountain was running. Luke headed in for ride number one, which he said had some lights on, so it was a little strange. Then he found me for the Magic Band swap, and this time the ride was its usual dark self. While he was off both times, I played Disney Emoji Blitz finally winning Winifred. Woo Hoo!

It was now 4:30 with some dark clouds and the crowds growing as the party goers had begun arriving. We were ready to leave anyway to relax in the Poly before our dinner ADR. But before we exited the park, I made sure we stopped at Box Office Gifts to pick up the Jack Skellington Magic Band for Luke. I knew he really liked it, but would not buy it for himself. He wore it every day afterwards, so I’m very glad we got it.

NEXT: Not What I Was Expecting

What an awesome MK day! How very cool that they make sunglasses that help with color blindness! And nice that you were able to get a discount because I’m sure they were not cheap! I’ve wandered in there once or twice to browse and usually turn right around when I see the price tags.
I have to say you do look a bit uneasy on Seven Dwarfs MineTrain! Sorry you are not doing well on these rides this trip.

Nice finds with the sunglasses and especially for Luke! You got some good attractions in but funny how 7DMT and SM were down at times. But you used your time well with TTA and CoP with the hopes of SM reopening. Luke got some good photos with the lights on. I've seen this on CoP and amazing to see but don't have any photos of it.

The strangest on was when SM stopped for about ten minutes or so and my car was on an upward hill stopped at about a 45 degree angle. Not the best experience, but got another FP out of it.

I too have taken a bit of a nap on CoP as so relaxing with the a/c and relief from the heat! Easy to do! Glad Luke got SM in and 7DMT reopened as well. Glad you enjoyed Casey's as I always do as well.

Awesome that you got photos of Space Mountain with the lights on! We've seen it like that once, but it was many, many years ago and I'd put the camera in the rucksack (now you see why I never do that any longer! ) and I missed the opportunity. Won't make that mistake again.

I'm so glad Luke found a pair of sunglasses to help him with his color blindness! Looking forward to more!

I like your closeups on the Jungle Cruise. Not bad for not having a good enough seat to take pictures. Lucky find on the sunglasses.
