Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My goodness it was really hot today for you guys! I agree that TSL is beautiful but there is definitely not enough shade!! Still you got a lot accomplished on your visit!! Sorry that SDD did not agree with you. I love your purchases at DS and it is nice to hear a good review of the Edison!!
Some nice purchases in DS. Your meal at The Edison looks very good and not too bad on the price for the two of you. Much more reasonable than the new Wolfgang Puck eatery.

Sorry you were still a bit queasy. And I know the hot sun doesn’t help!
What’s wrong with people? We encountered several of those last minute stroller people as well. And of course they block the door while they’re folding it up.
No common sense!
These guys didn't even attempt to move further back on the bus, just put the strollers and themselves right in the way. I will say these dads did seem to know how the strollers work. Some get to the door and can't fold it up.

Though I was willing to stand, I think having a seat really helped me to regain my head.

P.S. I think I am caught up!!
You are caught up and so sweet of you to respond to all the updates.
We'll definitely have to check out The Edison. After all, we live in the town he was born in. Gee, think that qualifies us for a discount?
How cool to live in Edison's hometown! Sounds like a very good reason for a discount.

You are so right on that point! But we might still try Wolfgang Puck at least once to see the decor and try some of hte food.

Dinner looked yummy.
I was so glad that I felt better so quickly. The way I felt when I got off the ride I was sure I'd be sick the rest of the evening. Maybe shopping is the cure for me.
I'm so glad that the bus driver recognized the need to get you on the air conditioned bus quickly and that you found the last two seats to rest your weary head. That queasy feeling from motion sickness is the worst feeling ever but at least it passed relatively quickly. I love your new Vera Bradley purchases and the color is just so pretty! I have shopped at the Uniqlo but I never seem to find anything that fits me just right which is such a shame because they have such a great selection and you can't beat some of the prices! Luke's Lego purchases are so adorable. Did they go in his train room? The menu at The Edison definitely has some great items that I would enjoy and your meal looked great.

That bus driver was my hero this day. I'm sure his quick thinking helped me to recover more quickly. The color of the Bordeaux Blooms is so rich. The Santa and Mrs. Claus are a part of my table centerpiece right now, but will probably end up on train layout.
We started this day later with the alarm not sounding until 8:15. WooHoo! Extra sleep is a good thing. As we made our .25 mile trek to the lobby, I stopped first to photograph the Red River hogs. As we neared the lobby, I noticed a giraffe on the Sunset Savanna. A couple more photos were in order.
We were lucky when a bus arrived at the bus stop at the same time as we did. In about 20 minutes we found ourselves at the Magic Kingdom. I made no notes about bag check and security so that probably went smoothly. I took a few more photos of the front of the park decorated for fall because today was so much sunnier than our first Magic Kingdom park day.
Our first stop once inside the park was at the Town Square hub. I had wanted to get photos of all the scarecrows.
I manage two scarecrows before I was distracted by a short line at the stacked jack-o-lanterns where a PhotoPass photographer was set up. There was only one family in front of us. Unfortunately, this may be one of the worst PhotoPass photographers for camera skills we’ve ever encountered. She took one photo and my eyes are closed in it. We hardly ever get less than three photos of from any PhotoPass photographer. I had intended to use this photo on the opening page of my scrapbook, but not with my eyes shut. Too bad!
From the photo op, we walked into the Emporium. I had seen these cute Halloween Mickey plushes on our first day in this park. I had looked in every gift store since then with no luck. I could only find Minnie and Donald in Halloween garb. At the Emporium, I finally asked a cast member for help and she directed us to the Town Square Center shop right after the Mickey meet and greet. Before leaving, I did get some photos of the cute Halloween decorations inside the shop.
We backtracked only to learn that the Halloween Mickey was only available during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, which we were not attending. Another too bad! By now you may be wondering how the title relates to this update. We just haven’t gotten to the practically perfect part yet. Honestly, none of this was bothering us.
It was now 10:30 and we both needed some breakfast. Off to Main Street Bakery/Starbucks. I ordered a slice of pumpkin bread with a tall hot chocolate, and Luke got a Mickey Blondie with a Lemonade/Black Iced Tea. Our food was ready fairly quickly, and then Luke’s drink came, and then we waited and waited. Finally, a team from the back came to help. The hot chocolate machine had clogged. Eventually, I had my drink, too, and we headed to the tables with umbrella outside The Plaza to enjoy.
Our first FastPass was for Seven Dwarfs Mine train. I had taken Dramamine with breakfast and hoped it would work better today than yesterday. On our way to Fantasyland, we saw a PhotoPass photographer in the grass area in front of the castle. She was standing in the shade, so we asked if she was taking photos with the castle as the backdrop. She was and got some great shots, much more the quality of what we have come to expect.
We hadn’t walked much further when we found these cuties crossing our path.
But when we arrived at the attraction, the ride was down. The cast members thought it might be back up shortly, so we walked across to the Friar’s Nook to get a Coke to share. We sat in the shade of the Fantasyland walls. After about 15 minutes we decided to try back later as a short while could mean anything at this point. We stopped first at the Pinocchio restrooms. Now what to do? We hadn’t looked in Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe yet so decided to head there. Once there we were surprised by the refurbishing which had half of the store, the part in the middle closed. I found the two Legends ornaments that I had wanted. One is the Mickey 90th anniversary and the 75th Chip and Dale. The first will remind me of Daddy and the second will remind me of Stefanie.
Precious! We got into a long line, but within a minute another cast member came in and asked if we would mind walking around the building to another register where she could check us out. I asked if she could do sent it to the resort from the register, and she assured me that she could because her register was magical today. While I was paying for the ornaments, Luke wandered around as we were at the back of the shop. He came back excited, telling me that Mary Poppins was at the gazebo for a meet and greet. Finally, we get to the practically perfect part of this morning. Time with Mary always makes the day better.
As soon as our transaction was done, and I was assured the ornaments would arrive at Kidani’s gift shop the next day, we went to join the Mary Poppins line of maybe two or three folks. Cool! I often tell folks that I miss how Stefanie could so easily interact with the characters. I feel awkward as I attempt to converse with them. But Luke says that when I’m with Mary, I’m just like Stefanie, full of chatter. I remember we talked about our holiday, my organization skills, and my desire to make life fun. Well, just check out my time with Mary in the photos Luke took for me. Too bad there isn’t a PhotoPass photographer with her. But Luke does an excellent job!
NEXT: What Color Are the Flowers on that Tree? PINK!
Sorry your first Photopass of the day was a bust! I always like that shot with the pumkins too! That usually ends up on the October page of our calendar.
But your other PP shots are great! And the ones Luke took of you and Mary as well!

Nice time in the MK but too bad 7DMT was down! Hope it comes back up within your window. Nice surprise as look finding out the meet and greet with Mary Poppins and I can see from the photos that you are just enjoying every bit of it with her!
