From no trip to celebrating 20 years together… planning it all in less than 100 days! UPDATED 6/30 - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Rosen Shingle Creek is really nice. My cousin got married there a couple of years ago. All the food we had was really good. And some of the ladies visited the spa the day before her wedding. It was really nice, but not cheap. ;-) And I think we got free parking as a perk of the wedding.
Sorry about the disappointing meet and greet with Olaf and then the disappointing selection in the shops. The resort is really beautiful and how wonderful that you got to meet Lorie's sister.

October 6, 2017-Enjoying an amazing dinner at Victoria & Albert's with PP's Dot and Drew

I enjoyed the March of the First Order on my Fall trip and thought it was well done and especially with the movie clips and music! That was a nice meet you had with everyone, but it must have been tough with the circumstances. That's a beautiful hotel.
You're right, it was tough at times, but at other times, I completely forgot about the tragic circumstances that first brought us together, if that makes sense? It was a bit weird, but in a nice way, because there were so many different emotions that day.

Well, free parking is the least I'd expect, because as you say, I bet that wasn't cheap. However, I bet it was beautiful and a very memorable day.
Sunday 26 February – part six: wow, this is amazing!
We made our way over to Royal Pacific Resort. We decided to valet park, but what a nightmare that was! Honestly, in all the places we’ve valet parked over the years, this was by far the most completely disorganised. They were all over the place with cars, and it took ages for someone to come out to us. We nearly gave up and went to self parking, but in the end, I was glad we didn’t. You’ll see why in due course…
We made our way inside, and it reminded us of Aulani, although not on the same scale of course. Disney somehow always manages to do things better…
We found our way over to Emeril’s Tchoup Chop, where we were having lunch, and outside it looked very different from the rest of the resort…
Inside, it was just amazing!
Mark was obsessed by the water they had in the middle with lilies in, and so was I, in truth. We came to the conclusion they had to be fake, but it took a while to work it out. He liked the idea of creating a ripple in the water…
It turns out the menus are changed out daily, which is how I had lobster seafood toast with citrus aioli on mine, and that’s what I had for appetiser. Mark couldn’t see it anywhere, and he was accidently on yesterday’s menu. Now I will say they don’t look that appetising, but I promise you the flavours were superb.
Mark went for the steamed pork and Asian vegetable dumplings with sake-soy dipping sauce.
I have to apologise for the quality of the photos here. I think my camera was having a funny five minutes. Goodness knows what was up with it!
We also got some prawn crackers…
For main course, I went for the Anueue chirashi, which was raw ahi and salmon, sushi rice, kanikama avocado, cucumbers, spring onions, tempura crisps with an unagi glaze and spicy mayo. Oh my, this was one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time. The flavours were just superb, and the only thing that stopped it getting a straight 10 was that it was a little fiery for me, and left a bit too much heat in my mouth after I’d finished eating it.
Mark went for the wok-fried udon noodles, seared chicken and shrimp, vegetables, mushrooms and a garlic-hoisin sauce. Again, sorry about the quality of the photos – my camera seemed to go nuts in here…
We still had enough room for dessert, so I went for the homemade tropical sorbets. I forget what they were now, but they were all melon. I think the orange one had mandarin in it, while the green one had lime. The flavours were great, but the consistency wasn’t. The second I went near it with a spoon, it just disintegrated, which I’ve never had with sorbet before.
Mark had Chef Emeril’s signature banana-cream pie with graham cracker crust and caramel sauce, which our server told us is served in every Emeril’s location, as it’s such a signature dish. I had a bite of it, and it was very nice. We decided it was banoffee (toffee and banana) on steroids!
While the food was great, the place was freezing, as the air conditioning was on high, and by the end of our meal, we were just desperate to get out into the sunshine, which tells you something. I cannot fault the setting though, with all its beautiful artistry.
Our server, now I really wanted to like him. He was very personable, but unfortunately he was lacking in some of the basics, like when I asked him what the homemade sorbets were. His answer? That’s a very good question, I’ll go and check. No, that was not the right answer. That was such an obvious thing you should know, and we had a couple of other instances. It was a real shame he let himself down in that way.

Oh my goodness, I remember how much the parking was when we went to see ICE and I want to say it was more than $12-$15. About $20 rings a bell and that was also quite a few years ago too.

I stayed at the Royal Pacific about 5 years ago, and I really enjoyed it! Your pictures brought back those memories! Your meal looks fabulous, and Mark's pie looks soooooo good!
Beautiful resort! Your meals looked very delicious, but I hate how cold some restaurants are air conditioned. I get some strange looks but I always take a light jacket along with me to restaurants all summer.
