As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

the best room ever at the wilderness lodge villas...
yeah. so you may recall that i asked for rooms close to lobby/elevator/ground floor in all of my requests. yeah. so disney was like: ok. we got this.
i'm not sure how many of you have stayed in the WL villas, but basically: there's a walkway from the main building out to the villas. as you walk, if you look to your left, you see the villas building. our room was the very last room along that path, immediately to the left of the main entrance.
so we got to sit out on our tiny porch area and watch people come and go and, better, listen to the soundtrack of wilderness lodge. the soundtrack is lovely. there's even a built in train sound (i think. because national park lodges were once served by trains. for certain, there were train whistles blowing. i can't imagine that i could hear the MK train from there, but if i could--that's also cool (though near impossible.)
i did not want to leave. yet leave we did.
which will bring me to the next part of the story...

oh no--there's a good soundtrack at the poly? i NEED to stay there. after our next trip, it will be the final DVC/deluxe property i've not tried. so clearly i must check it out.
hi! i'm back and attempting to resume this TR! i've had some issues with PP lately--i wrote a whole big long post last night and then it wouldn't post. so if THIS posts, i'll copy/paste that into another reply. fingers crossed....
it posted! yay! and i'm glad i copy/pasted my response last night before closing my computer in anger.

i realize that if i continue to write this TR in the same fashion i will never finish it. thus, i'm going to speed it way up. here's everything summarized super quickly. i tried to stick to one sentence or line per table-of-contents-point.
Day 2 Table of Contents
1, 2, and 3 already written
4. wilderness lodge and actual wildlife.
Because we were too lazy to walk to the WL boat launch, we took the bus to MK, and it went to fort wilderness first where we saw actual deer, which was really awesome.
5. my husband becomes a small child in the magic kingdom.
doug insisted upon riding every ride in fantasyland, including the carousel; it was adorable.
6. that time the bartender actually got so angry she started throwing things.
we then had dinner at territory lounge, which was insanely understaffed. the bartender made everyone uncomfortable by yelling at her coworkers and throwing her card scanner thing across the room. it was not magical.
Day 3 Part 1
-why we love the wilderness lodge
i honestly do not remember. but we really loved it.
-learning how to best use the FP+ system (hint: it's AWESOME)
step 1: make your first FP for a half hour after park opening. make your second for exactly one hour later and your third for exactly two hours later than that. example: 9:30 mine train, 10:30 pirates, 11:30 space mountain.
step 2: in the first 85 minutes of park opening, ride things on standby.
step 3: get in line for your first FP in the last five minutes of its availability.
step 4: go directly to FP #2.
step 5: do something between FP 2 and 3, like have breakfast.
step 6: *important step* while in line for FP 3, make a fourth FP for asap. you can make one for as soon as immediately.
step 7: ride FP 4. while in line for FP 4, make a 5th FP for asap.
step 8: repeat step 7 until you are tired of riding things.
-the disney food blog lies (but that's ok).
i read this post about how the spicy chicken and waffle sandwich at sleepy hollow got really small. not true. it’s still huge. my husband and i shared it and i was amazing as always.
-the first time i was ever actually afraid on pirates.
they packed our boat so full of people that i thought we were going to sink—there was maybe an inch of space between the water and the top of the boat. not ok.
-a crappy time on it's a small world (with an emphasis on crap. really. just wait.)
we were in line behind—and then seated behind—a young girl with a baby who had clearly crapped her diaper/pull up (she was maybe 2) and they just didn’t care. i have never almost thrown up on its a small world until this day. oh dear god, the smell.
-the tiki room. really.
doug wanted to see the tiki room. it’s actually pretty awesome and i’ll do it again next time.
-being eight years old in the magic kingdom.
and then i got a mickey bar.
-almost being hit by a golf ball. twice.
we went back to OKW and sat on our verandah which was hole-adjacent. multiple golfers tried to kill us with their balls. wait—that sounds wrong. ah well. i’m leaving it.
Day 3 Part 2:
-disney springs: why it is loud and also really good deviled eggs.
and then we went to disney springs with heather. we had dinner at homecoming, which was fantastic but SO LOUD because the room is really big with high ceilings. the deviled eggs were out of this world.

Oh my goodness, that experience on It's A Small World is just gross... no other word for it!
it was so bad. worse than i'm making it out in my summary. because they were seated in front of us, every time the boat moved the smell wafted back. doug stuck his nose down in the collar of his shirt. i don't understand how the girl and her mom weren't bothered by it (the girl--parent girl--was maybe 15, her mom had her shirt on inside out, and the baby who pooped herself didn't seem to mind. i was a little concerned for the well being of all of them.)
second--before i continue with my Super Speedy Summary TR, i'd like to share some good news. something for which i am thankful...
last night we extended our january disney trip.
the original plan:
-mom and i fly down on the second sunday in january.
-we stay one night at the boardwalk and four nights in a 1 bedroom at the floridian.
-i fly home friday. mom stays one additional day at kidani because she had enough points left over for the year to do a savannah view studio.
the new plan:
-mom and i fly down on the second sunday in january. (SAME)
-we stay one night at the boardwalk and four nights in a 1 bedroom at the floridian. (SAME)
-on our last day at the floridian, my husband joins us. he lands mid-afternoon.
-doug and i stay for three additional nights at caribbean beach (because reasons) so i get to have my actual birthday in WDW (my actual birthday is that saturday).
-we both depart on monday morning, headed to different places (i have to work in connectictut the following day so i'll just fly to hartford or providence.)
yay! excited! and i'll get to cross another disney resort off of my list! of the moderates, i've done coronado and port orleans riverside. now i just need to try french quarter and i'll have done all of the moderates. and after our march trip (oh yeah, there's a march trip...) the only deluxe i will need is the poly.
we can worry about values at some other point in my life. or, you know. never.
That was so gross on IASW. Unfortunately, you can't just get off the ride.
