The “”I Don’t Have to Cook for 10 Days" TR - Aug 17-27, 2010 - COMPLETED 11/2! - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! All caught up. Two more great days. Sorry about the rain, but it sure made for some great wait times. You have to take the bad with the good. Your family is so photogenic. I love how you can see the excitment on their entire faces. My DS hates taking pictures and I am jealous of your great natural pictures. When we do get him to smile, it looks like we held a gun to his back. Sorry you never made rope drop, but glad you are having a great time.

Love the updates. Aren't rainy days in the parks great? Very short lines, etc. We were there during TS Faye in 2008 and found it to be wonderful. How did they do the parade in the rain or had it cleared by then? We were treated to the rare "Rainy Day Character Cavalcade" instead of the afternoon parade the day the tropical storm went over Orlando.
just got all caught up on your TR, and I love it! Congrats to your daughter for losing a tooth at Disney! And how awesome that she got a visit from Tink
She still talks about that!

Can't wait to read about your dinner at CP. We have an ADR there on our first night. Can't wait to read more!!
I think the construction is supposed to be done in stages with roll our starting in 2012 and into 2013. I'm not 100% sure though. And we love CP - this was year #4 there!

I'm glad he dared me too I think you had just finished - we're going on the Dream next year, so I've started reading cruise TRs to get an idea of what to expect - yours was very cute!

Thanks for the compliment on the kids in their pics! I constantly have a camera in hadn, so they're used to it!

The rain had cleared by then - I think it was mid-afternoon when it stopped for good, so not too bad! What's the RDCC? I've never heard of it!

I was told that the "Rainy Day Character Calvacade" only happens when the rain is too hard for the regular parade and not hard enough to stop all park activities. The CM told me that she had been working at MK for about 5 years and had only seen it one time before. I did not get any pix as it was too wet for my camera. Wish I had had one of those waterproof ones that are used at the waterparks. The parade had a few old style vehicles with no side windows. One of them had the fab five riding in style. The characters and cast members that were marching included one unit of dancers (looked like from Mary Poppins) with large umbrellas which could be popped inside out as if the wind had blown it out. They danced as if the wind were blowing them back and then would pop the umbrellas out and then move back forward again. Most of the characters that were marching were trying to find the puddles of water and would then splash through each one. All of the guests standing along the route were getting wet from above and from below. The water was running down main street level with the curbs on both sides of the street. It was a short parade but was a lot of fun and the CMs looked like they were truly enjoying it. I would not mind getting wet to see it again. Disney has a way of making the best of any situation. If you want to read the rest of the TR for that period, do a search for "The Great Zonie Caper". (I did not realize I would be recommending it or I would have had the link prepared.)
For any interested, I am attaching the link to the TR mentioned in the last post about the Rainy Day Character Calvacade. I tried teh search method and it didn't work so here is the link. http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...-complete.html
I love the pics of your adorable kids in their fancy wedding gear! Your son's eyes are entrancing! So handsome!
So lots of rain = 10 minute waits for rides...hmmm...I think I would be willing to take that trade off! The only day we were at a park during a deluge was last trip's visit to DHS--but it was a stinker because many of the rides were shut down (and the ones that were not had CRAZY lines with people avoiding the rain!).
Great pics from the wedding.....Hope you got some needed sleep!

Thanks for the compliments Alex's eyes are a crazy dark, dark brown (and he was born with them that dark) - he gets lots of comments on them
I think I agree with you about the rain and the wait times - I'll take it! DD on the other hand probably wouldn't since she hated her poncho . DHS is probably the worst to be at in the rain since there doesn't seem to be much to 'hide' in.

We have eaten at Crystal Palace every year that we’ve gone, and every year it’s been dinner . One of these years we’ll try breakfast! I know some people aren’t fans of the selection here, but it is one of our favourites – I love the turkey here and the garlic mashed potatoes . There’s also a penne in a cream sauce that I look for every time too (okay, I’ve got to stop thinking about the food there, I’m getting hungry!!). We visited with all of our 100 Acre friends, with the kids getting loads of hugs from them and they got to bounce with Tigger, one of their favourite things to do at CP .
Mickey confetti heart on our table
Playing with the confetti Mickeys
Bouncing with Tigger!
When we were almost finished, our very sweet waitress came over to give us a card from Pooh and friends, and our anniversary cupcake. However, she took it a step further; she made us stand up and hold our cupcake while she clanked a glass and loudly announced to our section that it was our 9th anniversary . Then she made us smooch . Too funny!
After dinner, we wandered through some stores, making our way to the beginning of Main Street, hoping to find a spot for the parade. Now, the other night when we were here late, but decided not to stay, there were tons of spots at the front and it was much closer to parade time than it was tonight. We weren’t having much luck though .
We ended up in front of City Hall and saw an empty section. We asked a nearby CM if we were able to sit there, or if it was reserved (we didn’t want to take someone’s seats!) She told us that was the spot where the rope would come across and just to hop down in front of the rope as soon as they set it up. We parked ourselves on the curb to wait, and the kids amused themselves by hula-hooping and Sabrina skipped. They really enjoyed the activities, and it made the wait so much more bearable for them!
Sabrina skipping away!

As it got closer to the time they told us they would set up the rope, we headed back to Dave and manoeuvred our strollers onto the road. The CMs came soon after and we found ourselves with prime spots at the rope, right at the beginning of the parade . This meant good viewing, but also a quick exit!
(Cam - I thought of your awesome picture when I took this one!)
We enjoyed the parade, but as many others have stated, it didn’t have that emotional tug like Spectro. My kids on the other hand, liked this one better, which surprised me since it seemed to have fewer characters. Alex’s favourite was Captain Hook and Peter Pan, and Sabrina liked the Cinderella float .
We left right after they took down the ropes and headed for the bus stop. There were quite a few people already there, but within 10 minutes 2 buses pulled up and we were on our way ‘home’. When we got to our room, we found another little surprise from Mousekeeping – the kids loved it too!
Up Next: Will it rain again??!!

We always Crystal Palace, too. We've eaten here every single summer trip. Great parade pictures and I do love the one of Pete's Dragon with the smoke coming out!
