Our Penny Pressing Plans - the Photo Finish - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Whether you call me stubborn or a stick in the mud or whatever name you want to give it (call me cheap too if you want - I've been called it before), it all comes down to this. We're really, really comfortable at the AS Sports resort. It's the only resort where I felt I could actually be myself. If I wanted to avoid people I could. If I wanted to wear my ugly yellow croc knock offs, I didn't feel stupid like I would at the other resorts. I feel at home there and did the very first time I walked into the main building back in 2006. I don't get that feeling at any other resort. And truthfully, even if our finances extended to the other resorts (which especially nowadays, it just doesn't), I doubt I'd ever stay at them. For me at least, nothing beats the feeling of being home - and that's how I feel at AS Sports. The rest of the resorts really put me on edge for some reason and it really was like a breath of fresh air when I left them.
Well said. The main thing is that YOU feel at home there and YOU feel most comfortable at AS Sports. While I personally enjoyed CSR when DD and I stayed there, I can also understand that it is not for everyone. I think that is one of the great things about Disney resorts, they have one to fit just about anyone's personality.

I don't think you should ever feel bad about how you feel about the other resorts. If the AS Sports is where you feel comfortable then that is where you should be. I really don't think that anyone thinks you are cheap because that is where you want to stay.
I hope that you, Lenny and Abby will soon be able to plan another trip to WDW and share your all your adventures with us. I really enjoyed following you through all the parks and look forward to the next time.
Thanks for sharing!

I liked hearing your thoughts on the Resorts and I can even agree to some of the things. I do have several favorites and have enjoyed trying out different ones. I agree though to the its where I sleep and keep my stuff while I am in the Park. I don't use the Hotel amenities as often as I would like. I am trying to teach myself to slow down and relax a bit at the Resort. I love the Values, though Pop is my favorite becasue I love nostalgic things. I have enjoyed reading about your time at Disney and hope you all get to return again soon.

Thanks for sharing your trip- look forward to reading your next one!
Glad you love AS Sports so much! We stayed Pop last year and loved it and we are looking forward to AS Movies in a few months- Hope it's as great as Sports sounds!.
You are correct in that not everyone is comfortable in all of the resorts on WDW property. My wife and I have stayed at ASMo, Poly & OKW. We found that we spent most of our time while at Disney in the parks and did not use hardly any of the perks at the resorts. It was nice to have a pool and a spa at the Poly and OKW after a long day in the parks. We missed that at ASMo. I can truthfully say that was all that we missed. The transportation system was more convenient at the Poly since it is on the monorail line; but, we did not have any problems with any of the resorts. I have thought that I would like to stay at the Wilderness Lodge or at Animal Kingdom Lodge at some time; but, that takes a lot of money that can be used for tickets and meals. Recently we have been staying off property since we have had problems trading our time share into the Disney resorts. This has its advantages but also presents has disadvantages when compared to the perks at the Disney resorts. I hope that you guys can make it back to WDW sooner than you indicate. Your TR was a pleasure to read.
Thanks for your reviews Darlene. I think that with so many options at Disney everyone can find the one that makes them happy. So if ASS is the one for you then enjoy...
I agree with everyone else, stay where you feel most comfortable. I always feel underdressed and out of place when I visit GF. I'm glad I'm not the only person that has felt that way!
When we're at AK, we buy meals from different locations, but 99% of the time, we eat at Flame Tree too! I the location -- watching the boat with band (when it's there) and now Expedition Everest. I remember sitting through the time it was being built.
Another thing you did, which I , is the parade! It really is a fun one! Some of the costumes remind me of Epcot's Tapestry of Dreams.
You sure did make a lot of stops for pennies today! I cracked up, picturing you speeding through CSR on Lenny's scooter!
Abby looks so happy here!
I agree with Lenny - it's beautiful looking out over Bay Lake! I going on a boat there! And it must have been a very relaxing end of your day!
It sounds like Abby really enjoyed everything -- and isn't that what counts! And doesn't it make Mom happy?

THanks for the resort reviews Darlene. This was our first stay at AKV and as much as I like the resort, it is very beautiful, the inside hallways made me uncomfortable. I prefer the resorts that the doors open to the outside.
all the Princess and Abby photos!
Does she have a favorite?

After lunch, we headed to Mexico. This was another ride that had no line and when we were done, I couldn’t resist dressing up Abby.
You better dress Abby up now while you can. I suggest it to my Dgang and they just roll their eyes!
I the hat show Abby! You looked great!
But you sure look like you're up to something sneaky in this one!

Abby wanted to ride Living with the Land. Surprisingly, she wasn’t upset when I told her the ride was closed. Instead her comment was "I know, we can ride Soarin again."
Abby is being so patient today! !!
Another full day! And it sounds like a really fun one despite the rain! I'll have to admit, I try to tell DH the same thing you told Abby about the parks not closing because of the rain. He won't listen to me! He hates rain! Maybe Abby can have a talk with him!
