Halloween, Hawaii and holiday celebrations - THIS SECTION COMPLETED 12/27 - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thursday 31 October – part four: sampling the new flavours at Club Cool
We wandered through the United Kingdom and Canada…
… and as we were heading towards Future World, we ran into Bob, Larry and their friends, and we chatted to them for a while. There is seriously nothing better than running into friends unexpectedly. Ok, so we knew they were in the park, but we didn’t know we’d run into them at that particular moment…
Eventually, we headed off, browsing a few shops on the way, and I noticed that some of the Food and Wine Festival merchandise was already being marked down. I’ll keep an eye on that over the next couple of days to see if that gets extended further.
As we crossed into Future World, I just had to go into Club Cool, having heard that the new flavours had only arrived yesterday. Here they are:
I loved the Fanta Melon Fantasy and had about two or three lots of that. I also thought the Fanta Pineapple was really nice, although it was too sweet for Mark’s taste. Neither of us were that keen on the Guarana Kuat, although I really enjoyed the Sparletta sparberry. Generally, I thought the new flavours they’d introduced were much more to my taste than the previous ones.
When we came out of there, we headed towards the Land, as we all had Fastpass +. Ours were good at 11:15am, and Angie’s at 11:35am, and wouldn’t you know it, just as we got there, it was literally 11:35am, so in we went. I have to say at this point I was a bit freaked out by all the adults walking around in costumes. I had to ask Angie if it was for Halloween and she confirmed it was, but I just wasn’t expecting it during the day. I mention it as someone was dressed as Doctor Who behind us in line, which I thought was really cool, but sadly it turned out they weren’t really that much of a fan, as they didn’t get anything of what I was talking about.
Soon we were taking our seats to go Soarin’, sadly in row three, but you know what, there is something about seeing the feet above you that makes it a bit more real for me. I just wish they’d do a rehab of this. Not only is the quality of the film pretty poor now, but you can barely smell any of the scents any longer, which is a real shame.
We ended up leaving via the backstage area and came out via the Imagination pavilion. We recognised it immediately, as we’d been down here on our Segways on a tour before. We guessed it was like this because the escalators were out of action, and we heard a Cast Member saying it would be like this for a “few months”.
When we were back in the park, we headed into MouseGears, where Mark found three Grumpy T-shirts, but I only found a scrapbook set. I really didn’t like any of the T-shirt designs I saw for women. A lot of them were the fitted style again, which doesn’t suit me at all.
Our purchases made, we sent them back to the resort, and headed out. As we’d walked over here, I’d said that Test Track seemed very quiet, and it was still that way, so whether it had been running at all today, who knows?
We’d been in touch with Sharon and knew her group were over in Mexico, so we headed that way, stopping to get the Garlic Shrimp with Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Myrtle and Rapini…
… while Mark got the Grilled Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies…
I wasn’t overly impressed with mine. I felt the garlic overwhelmed it, although as Angie said, she can never get enough garlic, so I guess it just depends on your taste…
We carried on walking, and came next to Singapore, where I got the Seared Mahi Mahi with Jasmine Rice and “Singa” Sauce. It was much more to my taste, although the “Singa” sauce was a little too much for me.
Mark got the lemongrass Chicken Curry with Coconut and Jasmine Rice…
We knew that Sharon wasn’t far behind us, so we took a break in Norway, and applied some more suntan lotion, as my goodness, it was hot outside!
This was also where we saw what I’d describe as the first “family unfriendly” Halloween outfit. What on earth were people thinking coming to Disney dressed like this?
Next: PassPorters eating and drinking around the world!

The Land escalator situation has been like that for more than a few months. It was the same kind of situation when we were there in June. We went out those doors too. I agree with you about Soarin'. It needs to be refurbed. The food looks yummy!
Yikes! You're right! What was she thinking wearing that?
Your F&WF choices looked yummy! Getting hungry now, and it's only 9:00!
Back to the stepsisters sighting...we saw them in that spot once on our way back to BCV. Lady Tremaine was with them as well. Maybe it's an occasional M&G spot for them. It's not a real crowded area, and gives them a chance to cut up a bit as they interact with people.
You really have many great shots, especially the monorail shot. We did not try any food around the world this year. When we passed Canada I got a horrible smell of something cooking and that did it for me. Maybe next October I will try some of the food, but we will start at Mexico this time!!!!!!
You would think getting the escalators back up and running would be a priority. A lot of people just can't do stairs.
Sounded like a fun time so far at Epcot. The food looked yummy and the new flavors at Club Cool sounded like some that I would like.
I never realized people wore costumes all day for Halloween. I would think it would be hot and uncomfortable-- not to mention at times inappropriate! That's a bad situation at the Land with the escalator not working. There is an elevator for scooters/wheelchairs, but only one and it's in an awkward location and quite small.
I'm confused. I didn't think costumes were allowed anywhere, anytime except for MNSSHP? (and little kids as princess/pirates, of course) That just seems really odd and out of place, even with Halloween.
Very fun that you bumped into Bob & Larry! I guess with that many PP there at the same time, it's bound to happen.
Was that Singapore chicken curry sponsored by Virgin Atlantic? Hahaha.

I can't wait to try the new flavors at Club Cool!
Mark hit the Grumpy shirt jackpot, didn't he?
I just don't understand why they haven't done a refurb on Soarin' long ago. It has been in sad shape for years now...
I am finally caught up. I was around 15-18 pages behind! Too much to comment on and remember, but the GF looks great! I love the lobby!
Bummer about the balloon trip.
I am surprised they allowed people in costume at Epcot at well. Usually only at MK and I think it has be after a certain time of the day too on a party day. But I supposed it depends on the CM's at the gate.

ROFL! Very funny! We had been commenting, DH and I, about how weird it was that Virgin Atlantic kept trying to serve us curry on a 9-hour flight. Yeah, good move, VA - for someone with IBS that is just what you want to give me to ensure I spend a large amount of those 9 hours locked in your miniscule toilet cubicle!!

Sorry about that!
