The Promise of Spring: Flower & Garden Festival 4.0 -- A Cam and Luke TR COMPLETED 8/27 - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

No worries Cam as there are more important things than the TRs that you have to deal with! Sounds like all went well with your dad and hope for more recovery! I can only can one update off a week, so I know! Probably why I just drag my TRs for about a year!

, everyone! My dad is so resilient, but I hate that as he ages his body doesn't always cooperate. But he told me that he thinks is great now!

Thanks, y'all! Dad had a very long day yesterday. We were all at the hospital by 7:00 AM, but due to a lack of communication between two doctors, the surgery didn't happen until going on 12:00 PM. But it he made it through.

NEXT: Our usual solution for extreme heat falls a bit shy of relief
Day 3 Part 5 Saturday, April 29, 2017
With our large drinks in hand, we began strolling through the World Showcase in search of gardens and topiaries. Canada came first and had the Bambi topiaries. Thank goodness for my slide camera strap which allows me to take photos with just a single hand. Honestly, I think by this point in the day that my brain had been dulled by the heat because I took one photo of each topiary. That or I was confident that my focus and composition were spot on. So here is the trio from Canada: Bambi, Thumper (known as Dumper by Stefanie), and Flower.
From Canada, we continued our stroll, now wandering in the United Kingdom. I was surprised to see the 100 Acres Woods crew in a new area. I worked my way up the display capturing Pooh and Friends (Eeyore with Piglet, Rabbit, and Tigger. These are actually some of my favorites every year. I am fascinated by the carrots in Rabbit holds and the cute red balloon in Pooh’s hand.
Next up was the Shakespeare Garden. I remember when this on debut, and wishing I had captured photos to use for a fun activity during my Shakespearean units with juniors and seniors. Normally, I would have wandering through the floral displays and read all the little placards. But not today in this heat. Two photos seemed sufficient. Now I realize that heat apathy was taken over.
Tinker Bell was next in the line up, and she did merit a few more photos, probably because she has always been a favorite for both Stefanie and me. I noted Peter Pan atop the store, but I was too lazy to figure out how to capture a photo of him without spilling my drink.
After the Neverland crew, we walked up the hill, observing the English Tea Garden to our right. I raised the camera for a shot of the sign and that ended that. This is another garden I normally take the time to wander through as the flowers here are ones that would do well in our own yard. But not today, just too hot. I know you all are sensing the theme of our afternoon now. Walk a little, sip a little, and point the camera.
As we crossed the bridge into France, we discussed our usual remedy for excessive heat. And what might that be? Eating ice cream, of course. I told Luke I’d like to get a few photos of the Beauty & the Beast topiaries as we made our way up into France to the ice cream shop. I really liked the new location for both Lumiere and Cogsworth.
Beside Chefs de France, we found Belle and the Beast. These two are so well done. Just beautiful!
Then we headed down the narrow road and straight into L’Artisan Des Glaces. Thankfully, the young French cast member here was sweet and seemingly not frustrated by having to have her repeat almost everything she said. There were large fans running and it was difficult to hear. And the heat again might have been playing with my brain. I asked if we could get the ice cream in a cup because neither Luke nor I wanted to do battle with the heat and melting ice cream. I chose two scoops of chocolate per my usual. Luke thought about chocolate mint, but changed his mind, picking chocolate and milk chocolate and orange. Back outside the heat hit us like a wall. A sweet couple saw us exiting the shop, waved to us that we could have their table, and then waited until we made our way to them. It was great to sit down to eat our treats, but the table was directly in the full sunlight. In fact, only three of the tables had any shade at this time of day and evidently the folks seated there had taken up residence. We devoured our ice cream with intervals of conversation, mainly me commenting that I could feel my skin baking. The ice cream would have probably been more effective if we’d also been seated in the shade. Once we finished our cold treats, we returned the favor of passing the table on to another couple.
As we came around the corner to Chefs de France, we were suddenly stopped by a crowd. Quickly scanning the area, I realized that the crowd was watching Serveur Amusant, the comical waiter and wine steward. We actually like the entertaining acts in each of the pavilions of World Showcase, but rarely see them as our timing seems to be bad for catching them. When we come upon one as we did now, we happily join the crowd. This act is really amazing as the waiter climbs higher and higher on the stacked chairs. I was able to get a few photos, too, as I could aim the camera up and over the heads of the folks in the crowd.
By the way, as I am writing this today, our weather is exactly like this Epcot day. High in the 90s with a heat index of 100. We managed our 4.3 mile walk this morning with lots of water. Also my dad got to come home today though they didn’t allow him much sleep last night. June said they had him up both at 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM to walk a bit. I know he is going to enjoy his own bed tonight.
I really had no idea that Florida would be that hot in May. But I guess they really never have a spring. Everything is so beautiful. Taking it slow makes it more bearable.. Pixies for your Dad to have a easy and speedy recovery, it's great he is home!!!
We had miserable heat on our first family trip which was May 2003. It was unbearable. Great pictures of all the topiaries and the gardens! The ice cream sounds delicious! Great choice on the cup instead of the cone!!
Well, even with the incredible heat that plagued you both, you were able to capture some beautiful pictures of all the pretty topiaries! The ice cream shop is my all time favorite snack in France, even though I shouldn't be eating ice cream with my digestive issue, but it's still a must do almost every day that we're in that park! I enjoy the chair act in France too and it amazes me every time we see it. So glad to hear that your dad is back at home which I'm sure will be much more peaceful for sleeping versus his hospital bed. for a speedy recovery.
