4 Parks, 2 Days, 1 Backpack: The Trip Report Complete! - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Like the wrap-up. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. I also like to eat alone. It is one of the few times I can catch up on my reading and people watch, too. Hope you are feeling much better. I feel you on the allergies. I just finished a round of antibiotics. It seems all of us on the Northshore are sneezing anf coughing. Ugh. Looking forward to your next PTR/TR

Great wrap-up! Excellent points on solo travel. It defintely appears as though the Pro's outweigh the Con's. And I totally agree!! Thanks for sharing.

Your pros and cons hit it right on the head. I really agree with the one about NOT having anyone to take pix with the characters. Enjoyed your trip. Thanks for allowing me to follow along.
Great wrap-up! I agree with all your solo-travel points, pro and con. I love my solo trips!
I really enjoy traveling by myself and I've had so many opportunities to do it this year!

I can't wait to see you in December! We'll have to get on that--did you get a room at VGC or do you want to share with me!

I just don't love birthdays. I've quit celebrating my parents' B-days and make sure I do something special for Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Loved the wrap-up...I know it seems like a long wait until the next trip but you do have a bunch of wonderful trips coming up and more planning for the future so I am sure that will keep you busy until it is time for your next trip to WDW.
I'm already busy with the planning!

Sorry, I was delayed (spoken in Gandalf's voice). Hope you are feeling better.
Oh I love LoTR!
Heather, any time you and I happen to be in WDW at the same time, I would love to enjoy a wine/food pairing with you since we have the same taste in wine.
Thank you for sharing your trip with us and I appreciate the wrap up since I will be going on my first solo trip in October (when are you going in October??).
I hope we get to meet up in October. Our trip is Oct 17-21!, if we are there at the same time we should plan a meal!

I also read The Hunger Games, and look forward to seeing what they do with the movies. I agree, it's a great series. Very interesting. Didn't end quite how I wanted, but aside from that, I really loved the series (and how it ended didn't change how I feel about the series as a whole).
I actually loved the ending, as I felt like it was the way it was supposed to be. I have read all three books three times. I just keep picking up new details and love the new "world" that the books provide!

Next PTR will be coming up soon because I'm actually having lots of planning issues because we have a grown up newbie coming with us.

The Pros certainly outweigh the Cons. I love going to Disney by myself!

Poop! My trip is Oct 6th-13th. Ugh. Well I am getting an AP so I could always swing down for one of your other trips. I'm trying to pick a few days to witness the holiday magic since I haven't been to WDW during the holidays since 1982!!

I'm going to Chicago for a weekend in September and we're almost to August already.
Which weekend in September are you coming to Chicago? Would love to do a quick meet to say hi! I'm not far from either airport O'Hare or Midway and certainly not far from downtown Chicago, maybe 40 minutes or so.

Great wrap up! I have not done a solo trip, but my DSis and I did a girl's only trip where we split up quite often and once I got used to the funny looks for being alone, I found it to be quite enjoyable to do what I wanted when I wanted.
I have to say that after reading this TR that my dining choices for my next trip have changed again. I normally plan for lunch at Sunshine Seasons, but I think I will have to make it to Liberty Inn for the burger. So, thanks for the review!
Awesome wrap up, awesome trip report!! I love all the pros and cons and you've voiced every con I could think of. I will try this one day!!
I know you'd have a blast--I always do!

I'm doing DL this Christmas season--I'm excited beyond! WDW in December (or October/November for that matter) is amazing. The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a fantastic time to go and just spend the whole trip doing holiday related things!
I'm not sure how many "other" trips there are going to be this year. It depends on how fast my SWA points rack up. I don't like the new system at all. IF they were still using the old system I'd have a free flight after April, but not with the new points system. I wish I traveled more for work--then I wouldn't have to worry about buying airline tickets--I'd have plenty of miles.

I arrive in Chicago on Sept 15th and leave the morning of the 19th. I'd love to say hi!

I love Sunshine Seasons, but I'll be back at Liberty Inn pretty quickly I think!
So, I just sat here and read all 21 pages of your TR! I must say - sounds like you had a great time. I LOVE your restaurant reviews! (Being a novice foodie wanna-be). I am a nurse who should have been a chef in another life.
belated - it was my DH's on Saturday. (and then I got sick on Monday!)
I'm impressed on the traveling solo aspect. Princess Sharon does it as well and I'm impressed with her too! I don't think I could. I went with my BFF once and missed DH terribly. But you make some good points on the benefits of solo travel.
