Trip Report - Jan 14-22 Cruise/WDW: A Disney Trip Full of Hope! COMPLETED!! 7/15 - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wednesday, January 20th: Part Three - No sleep for you!
While we were all enjoying our ice cream we noticed that Pooh and Tigger were out getting their pictures taken with everyone. We decided to wait in the very long line so Hope could meet them in person since she has the stuffed versions at home that do not interact with her very well. I think we waited 45 minutes to see them, which I normally wouldn’t have done if I was there without her, but now it’s a whole different story, so we patiently waited in the extremely slow moving line. I think Pooh & Tigger took 3 “bathroom” breaks while we were waiting, but they were pretty quick, and always came back within seconds of leaving…I wish I was that quick when I had to use the bathroom!
They were very good with her, but I can’t say the same about our pictures. I was not overly impressed with any of the Photopass pictures, so I didn’t order any, and even when they took the pictures with my camera they didn’t turn out very good. I always see such great candid shots in everyone else’s trip reports. Where the photographer gets the look on the child’s face as she or he is seeing the character for the first time, and I thought for sure I’d get a couple of those, but nope, just your run-of-the-mill poses for us.
When we were finished we caught Pooh and Tigger leaving for another “bathroom” break…too much water if you ask me.
We decided to leave Fantasyland and head on over to Adventureland to search for some pirates. On the way over we noticed Lilo and Stitch were out, and since I have never gotten my picture taken with them, I decided to make a quick detour. Their line was really short, maybe it was because they were a little off the beaten path, but I seized the opportunity for a photo op.
We continued to make our way to POTC, and finally hopped into line. In all my years of getting on this ride, I have never waited more than 10 minutes to ride it. I love this ride, it’s one of my all-time favorites, and the only thing they need to make it the best ride in the parks is an audio-animatronic of Orlando Bloom!!! I do love me some Johnny Depp, but Orlando Bloom is the one who gets me all weak-in-the-knees.
Anyway, I digress…I wasn’t sure how Hope was going to do on this ride with the little drop, I mean, it’s little to me, but would it be huge for her? As we made our way to the hill I held onto her tight and hoped for the best. After we plummeted to the bottom, and we got out of the dark, she had this huge smile on her face and was clapping her hands. I guess my little girl is going to be a thrill seeker! That could either be good or bad for me, depending on how I get in my old age.
When we got off the ride we fooled around for a bit in the store. Why do parents insist on putting funny hats on their kids and taking pictures? I don’t know, but we did it anyway…
Mom and I left Hope with the guys so we could check out a couple stores and take our own bathroom break…we weren’t nearly as quick as Pooh and Tigger …and while we were away my dad decided to feed Hope one of his pins on his lanyards.
Looks like she enjoyed it…yummy!
You know, I don’t ever remember eating dinner this night , and I don’t have anything about it in my notes, so either I completely blocked it out of my memory, or we were full from the ice cream. I know I must have fed her, but I guess I didn’t feed myself because the next thing I have that we did was head back over to Main Street to get a good spot for SpectroMagic.
I was soooo excited for Hope to see this parade. I knew she would love all of the lights and colors, and since she enjoyed the fireworks so much on the cruise, I knew she would love Wishes. Besides, Wishes is my favorite show out of all the parks. There’s just something about the music and the fireworks and being in the Magic Kingdom that gets me all goosebumply and teary eyed.
So we found a prime spot right at the Town Square and patiently waited for 8:00 to roll around. At first she was loving life, patiently waiting on her own little spot for the parade to start.
We even got her dancing around to keep her occupied.
But that turned sour after a while of just sitting there, and she started to get antsy and impatient.
At 8:00 I made a little sigh of relief, but that was short lived because they made an announcement that the parade would be starting late due to technical difficulties. Are you kidding me??? Do you realize that I have an 8 month old baby who is starting to get fussy and tired, and all I have been waiting for her to see is this parade?!? She’s not going to make it, she’s going to have a melt down in front of all of these people.
Finally, after waiting an additional 15 minutes, they turned down the lights and the parade started. Now this is the funny part...Hope was starting to fall asleep, but I didn’t want her too, I wanted to her take in this wonderful parade and enjoy it as much as I knew she would. Every time a float would come by she would completely wake up and stare at all of the lights and the characters, but when it would go by and there would be a break between that float and the next, her eyes would start to close and I would have to bounce her and shake her.
She's starting to get cozy in my lap by this time.
This little routine went on for almost the whole parade, but I couldn’t compete with her sleepiness, and soon I gave in and let her pass out. You’ll notice in this photo that her head has now flopped to the side and is resting on my neck.
When it was all over she was completely , and I knew that was the end of the night for us.
No Wishes! It was okay though because I knew I would see them again. I knew going into this trip that it would be a different experience, and it was all about her now. I’ve been here before and I’d be back again, so my favorite show would have to wait until the next time, and it would be even more special because she will be wide awake for it the next time…fingers crossed.
All in all it was a wonderful day, minus the horrible morning we had. I was feeling much much better and I had just had a great day with my little girl. You can’t really have a bad day in Disney, not even if Mickey Mouse himself tries to ruin it!

Melissa I loved the ending part of your day at MK, but so sorry to hear Hope wouldn't stay awake for Spectro & Wishes. I love thr description of Hope's reaction to PotC. I love the pictures with Pooh & Tigger(sorry they weren't up to your standards) and with Lilo & Stitch. Hope looks so cute on her own piece of curb before Spectro. Glad your day got better when Mickey wasn't the nicest of Mickeys. Your teaser has me very curious as to what happened next. More please Melissa!

Melissa, I love the photos of Hope with the funny hats - her smile says it all. So did you ever think your entire day at Disney would be dictated by an 8 month old? It is all so worth it though. Isn't motherhood the best?! I can't wait to share "The World" with my little guy.

It did end up being a really great day, which was such a good thing. The pictures of Pooh & Tigger didn't turn out too bad for them using my camera, but all of the photos with them using their cameras weren't up to par, but that's just my opinion. I'm hoping when we go in September we'll get some better shots.

The pictures of Hope waiting for the parade are adorable, glad that she stayed awake (at least mostly) to see the parade.
Now that she's a little bit older I can definitely tell she has a wild side to her. She loves when I spin her and toss her up in the air....something I didn't do when she was smaller because I was afraid I was going to hurt her, but now she just gets the belly laughs when I do it.

Thanks! I definitely have a happy baby, well, I had a happy baby. As soon as she turned 1 it seems like the temper tantrums started, and at first I thought something was wrong with her because she had never acted that way before, but the pediatrician said it was normal. She can go from angel to devil in a second!

Motherhood is definitely something I wish I could share with everyone! I never thought I would be one, and now that I am I can't ever imagine what my life was like without her. Disney will never be the same, but I don't think I want it to now, I've made those memories without her, and now I'm ready to make new ones with her! When you do get the chance to share it will your little boy, it will be the best feeling in the world!

Melissa, so sorry to hear you're going through the temper tantrums with Hope. It's been the same way for us with Skyler since he turned 1 as well and it still continues. It is normal. Some days you just laugh at their temper tantrums, and other days you feel like crying and ripping your hair out. I hope it gets better for you.
