Adventures Down Under take on the World!!!!!!!!! A Pre Trip Report Jan 2008 - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry this has taken so long…Being 3 months pregnant is taking its toll on me at the moment. Happy Easter Everyone!!!
Before I start, I should probably give you some background information. When I went to WDW in 2000, I worked at the Animal Kingdom. This is therefore my favourite park. My husband Murray loves animals and I have been building this park up for a long time. Unfortunately, the early start and freezing morning wasn’t making our vacation feel very exciting to him!!!
We were on a 7:15 bus to Animal Kingdom. It was FREEZING this morning and Murray was not very impressed at being up at such an early hour! We went straight to the Safari as I always remember there being large crowds there. There was NO-ONE!! It was so cold this morning and it really didn’t warm up till after lunch time,
We rode the safari but there were not to many animals around…it was to cold for them. We did however get to see 2 lions !!!
We then went over to EE. This was our favourite ride of the whole trip (scary ride). I loved it and so did murray. We rode it twice and then got a FP for later on.
By now, Murray, who never gets cold….ever, he wears t-shirts and shorts with bare feet all winter….was so cold that it was starting to ruin our day. He already had on a really warm jumper but he was cold and miserable. To stop his complaining we went to buy him a new jumper. We walked from Asia, to Africa to Island Merchantile…Everywere the jumpers were $50 and I refused to buy it for him. We eventually walked down to Rainforest Café where we got a jumper for $20. he also bought some gloves (the first pair he has ever worn)!!!
Now that he was all rugged up./…and no longer complaining I got back to enjoying my day. We went back to do the Safari…there was still no wait time and we say a few more animals this time. We walked the Forest Trails but most animals were hiding and keeping warm.
We caught the train out to conversation. Murray loved ity out there and decided he would like to go back another day and spend a few hours out there. From 10am-1pm (I think, don’t quote me on the times) they do procedures on animals and he really wanted to see this.
For lunch we went to check out Yak and Yeti CS meals. I had read a lot about this restaurant and we have an adr for it later in the vacation. I ordered the Sweet and Sour pork and murray ordered the Kung Pow Beef. Both meals were delicious and so fresh.
By now, Murray was tired and since I really hadn’t explore POP Century yet. We headed back to the hotel at around 1pm. Murray relaxed while I explored and took more photos (now I realise why I managed to get 4000 photos).
Next up: My crazy dash to see the Grand Floridian Christmas tree, our ADR at Chef Mickeys and a Night at Magic Kingdom

Your AK day seemed like so much fun! Rob and I had a similar experience in Jan with AK... he was FREEZING but had worn shorts that day with a long sleeve shirt and he was so mad at me (even tho I was not cold in my jeans, flip flops, and cap sleeve shirt) for not being a meterologist or something! lol!
You make me want to go into AK just for the Yak and Yeti even tho it isn't on our to do list this trip!

Yak and Yeti was lovely! I cant believe you are not going to AK it is my fav park!!!
We had a 5:00 reservation at Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary Resort, but before that I wanted to get the Grand Floridian to see the Gingerbread house and Christmas Tree. SO we set off on our journey at around 3:30pm (I think). When we got to the POP bus stop, the busses to the MK and EPCOT were so looooong. I knew it would take about 4 buses before we got there. So I decided to get on the empty DTD bus that was waiting there. We went to DTD without a problem and were now waiting for the bus to the GF. Just as we sat on the park bench, we saw the GF bus drive past…it was leaving. I was nearly in tears as I knew that we were going to miss our ADR at Chef Mickey’s.
Then we experienced our first bit of Disney magic. As he drove around the turning bay he saw us sitting on the bench and he pulled over, wound down his window and said come on over. We ran across the road and made it on the bus. I am sure he wasn’t allowed to do that but it made my day.
Anyway, now we were on schedule and on our way to the GF. When we pulled up o was so excited. I had been building up the tree and the gingerbread house to murray for the whole bus ride. I knew that this was my only chance to see it as it was Jan 3rd and I thought it might come down around the 5th of Jan.
We walked through the main entrance into the lobby and I nearly cried. The tree and gingerbread house were removed the night before as they were replacing the floor of the lobby. Not only was I distraught but I also knew I would have to hear it from Murray who thought it was insane to go all this way just to see a tree. I think he saw how devastated I was that he didn’t make a big deal of it.
We set off for the Contemporary Resort and were seated quickly at Chef Mickeys. We had a nice night here. The food was ok (probably the worst meal we ate in WDW) but the character interaction was excellent. They also made a big deal about our anniversary and gave us special placemats sighed buy the characters and bought out an anniversary cup cake.
After our meal we headed off to the MK to see the castle. I was so excited to see the lights as I had seen so many peoples lights on the boards previously. I can’t describe how amazing it looked. The photos just don’t do it justice. It was SPECTACULAR.
The MK was pretty crowded so we just did a few rides tonight in Tomorrowland. Buzz, stitch and Monsters Inc. I hated Stitch I thought it was terrible. (I also hated it wghen it was the alien encounter). I Love Buzz and I beat Murray’s score which was also a bonus. We then went to the Monsters Inc attraction. I loved it and murray was “THAT GUY” in the show. I have never laughed so hard in my life.
We watched the fireworks and headed home around 11pm.
Up Next: My solo adventures at MGM…..Murray slept the day away!!!!
Great pictures Jess Sorry the tree and gingerbread house came down just before you got there And sorry about the food at CM's At least you had good character interaction
Great update and photos!! to hear the gingerbread house and tree were gone, but glad you were able to have some great interaction at CM. The castle looks absolutely beautiful!! We're hoping to go this Christmas and really hope to see the castle all done up like that!! Can't wait to hear more
