As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Love the little shop with your macaroons just waiting for you there to indulge on! Choices look good for lunch at Cabana's! Glad you enjoyed the film and I find the Buena Vista Theater to be quite cozy as I love the theming and clors in here!
It's way better than our local movie theatre. Honestly, if the seats there were as comfortable as in the Buena Vista Theatre, we'd go out to see films more often.
Your lunch at Cabana's looked delicious and stunning with that view back towards Castaway Cay. Your towel critter definitely looked quite relaxed.
The towel character and the way he was set up against the pillow was too funny and a great placement by one of the CMs! Just didn't expect it!

Wednesday 28 September – part five: the easiest $250 we’ve ever spent!
When we came out of the Buena Vista Theatre, we went to enquire about future cruises, but they didn’t open until 4:00pm.
We had a look in the D Lounge…
… and they were going to be doing a drawing class, but we passed, as we really wanted some downtime, as we’d barely been in the room since first thing in the morning. I know it’ll never be my donkey they draw anyway, as we’ve been told he’s too complicated to do for these… and most of the time these days, we end up with characters we’ve never heard of…
When we got back to the room, we admired the view outside…
… and watched what they were doing with the lifeboats now. Thankfully no more man overboard drills!
About 4:15pm, we headed down to the future cruise sales desk, and both were already busy, but thankfully one couple was done very quickly. I had done a bit of research on the Disney Cruise Line website in the room into prices, and let’s just say the Fantasy over Christmas, which was what I wanted to do, was no longer an option. Way too expensive!
I didn’t realise that you can just now do a place setter, and your 10% discount and stateroom credit is guaranteed for two years. I thought you had to book a cruise, then you could transfer it once. This works much better, as our only other option is going to be an early 2018 cruise, and of course, those aren’t available yet. We are currently looking at the first Fantasy cruise of 2018, which will be to the Western Caribbean, and fingers crossed that will still take in Jamaica, as I’ve always wanted to go there, and that it also includes a Star Wars Day at Sea, as I know Mark would enjoy that.
Once we’d done that (as the woman said, the easiest $250 deposit we’ve ever spent! ), we headed up to deck 11 to go and sample some of those macaroons… I got a pistachio and a passion fruit one, while Mark tried a pistachio. Let’s just say they were good, but they weren’t worth $2 each for me…
We headed into the Cove Café, as we hadn’t yet been in there this cruise, and it’s lovely. Mark was saying it was very small, but I did point out to him that the Dream services mainly a hot route, so it doesn’t need to be as big as the Wonder, which serves Alaska.
As we were here, we decided to have a drink, and we opted for the Toblerontini, made up of Godiva chocolate liquor, Frangelico, Bailey’s, Kahlua and honey, and wow, this was nice. If you know what I mean, it’s a dangerous drink in that you couldn’t taste the alcohol until you got to the bottom of it.
On our way out, we recommended it to a woman who was debating what to have, and we told her she’d love it. Hopefully she did…
By now, we were moving away from Castaway Cay, so we headed outside to take in the view, and made our way up to deck 13.
What a great afternoon. A movie, resting with fantastic views, snacks and drinks, and securing the fact that you get to do it all over again in another year or so. Sounds good to me!

Your time in the Rainforest sounded heavenly (with the exception of the snorer ). I really love getting the chance to see the ship empty on port days as it just looks so relaxing with out the crowds around!!! My DS and DBIL always stay on board on the days that their cruise ship pull in the port for a beach day and they enjoy all the amenities and just the quietness of the ship! The bar/lounge areas are so beautiful on this ship.

Except I'm not sure the next cruise will be quite as relaxed. Firstly, it will have a lot of ports of call to visit and they'll all be new to us so we'll be getting off the ship a lot more!

I don't mind doing that on days when beaches are the main draw or places we've been before, but if it's a first time visit, I always feel we should get off and explore a bit.
