As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Eventually, we gave up waiting for Tom and Evie, and texted Barb, only to discover Sara and Daisy were now waiting to see Chip and Dale, so we made our way over there, and settled down to wait for them to get to the front of the line.
As is always the way, the chipmunks needed some sustenance just before Sara and Daisy got there, but I have to say by now they were fuelled up on acorns, and on top form. Just look at these antics!
When it came to Sara and Daisy’s turn, sadly they were relatively well behaved, although we did get an unexpected starring role from Donald and Daisy in one of these shots…
We headed off to get some photos done in front of the castle, because as I pointed out, the hoards would be descending shortly, as they started to let the public in. I could see people starting to come up Main Street at a steadier pace, and given it was now 9:40am, I knew it would get crazy in a few minutes’ time.
Now remember Dave’s words about he was going for a wander? Well, that was about an hour ago now, and that was the last anyone had seen of him. Barb had been texting him, and then Tom tried calling, but he wasn’t answering. I don’t know that anyone was getting that worried, we were just wondering where the heck he was. Tom and I were betting he’d found a nice, warm coffee shop somewhere and had settled down there.
We were on the verge of giving up on him, and just heading off to Discoveryland to do Buzz Lightyear again, when cool as a cucumber, he just strolled up, without a care in the world. I have no idea where he’d been, but he was fine, and more importantly, he was happy. As far as I was concerned, that was the most important thing. I’m sure you’ve heard it many times before, but if you’re part of a big group, sometimes it’s just as important to have some “me” time to do what you want to do, and if you all get the chance to do that, you’ll have a much happier group whenever they all get back together.
We made our way over to Buzz, and this time I went on with Sara. I liked this pairing, given she came off with 11,000, and look what I got!
Obviously when I’m not with Mark I do much better… And look – I beat him!
Mind you, as you can see from our ride photo, we were both pretty intense, trying to get a good score!
My favourite was Dave, who rode on his own, and became known as “two gun Dave”, although even with the two guns, I understand he only managed about 5,000…
I'm loving the family time spent together so far. That is most definitely true - even when together as a group, it's important to break apart for "me" time. Or "us" time! Your morning is looking great so far!

That's what I always love about meeting up with friends. We spend time together, then we head off and come back together. It works so well.
I'm finally caught up. Travelling with family is fun. At least you wisely take breaks from each out. My in-laws thought we should spend every minute together. that didn't always work out well.
I love seeing the difference between DLP and DW. I really like those covered walkways. Wouldn't that be nice in Florida with all the rain down there.?

It would be even better if they were air conditioned and you could escape from the heat and humidity!
Sunday 1 May – part five: the “running of the guests”
When we came off Buzz Lightyear, it was about 10:00am, and they’d just opened up Discoveryland to the massed hoards, as you can see by this “running of the guests” shot. We stayed put for a moment to let the crowds pass, then headed out, and made our way back down Main Street…
… and out of the park…
It was a beautiful day, but there was still a real chill in the air from the wind, which was a shame. I said to Dave it felt like they’d built this place in a bit of a wind tunnel. I’m sure they didn’t, but that’s what it feels like in the winter months.
We headed over to the Studios…
… and into the entrance plaza…
We made our way through Studio 1…
Now at this point, I didn’t think it was too busy, although I did know from the app that there were very long lines at most of the big attractions. I still didn’t think much of it, as the Studios couldn’t be busier than the Disneyland Park, could they?
I don't doubt it was windy that morning, but it sure was a pretty looking morning. The topiaries were very cute and that Stitch plush in the store was also very cute--he looked almost remorseful as if he'd been up to something naughty (and got caught at it.)

What a great morning you are having so far! Love all the pictures! You'd never know it was so cold! Your breakfast looked delish and Glad Dave finally turned up!
That sunshine sure is deceiving. It's so strange to see the sun, beautiful blue skies, and then people wearing jeans and jackets!
With all those people coming into Disneyland, I am curious to see how Studios looks with crowds!
