Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It’s so cute listening to little ones in their excitement for all things Disney!
You got some nice photopass shots this morning. And yes, I was going to mention your top as well! Very pretty!
Crazy, all the folks wearing jeans! It made me hot(er) just looking at them!
You’ve got some great Photopass shots! Still looking fresh!
Too bad there’s not more shade back in Toy Story Land.
Thanks! I know the theme in TSL is that we are toy size in Andy's backyard, but surely there are trees in most backyards.

Thanks! There seemed to be fewer border/sticker options this time around, but I did like the ones that were there.

Thanks! That top is one of my Old Navy finds. It is also very cool and comfortable in the heat and humidity.

Thanks! I love the fabric for its design and that it is lightweight.
I felt the same way. I was sitting there in the shade sweating in shorts and a sleeveless top and they had on jeans.

This was our arrival day and I remember thinking it was hot but not as humid as all the Cast Members were saying it had been just days before. I love the color of your top which looks great with your hair color! How great that you got a picture with Woody in the background!
Good time at Studios so far with some nice PP photos! That young boy is too funny!

This day was less humid, but the heat was just crazy hot this trip. I love this top as it is so cool and comfortable.

As we walked into Toy Story Land, we discussed whether we wanted to wait in the standby queue for Alien Swirling Saucers. When we arrived at this attraction, the standby time was posted at an hour. We thought that was manageable, otherwise we would not get to experience it this trip, but first we decided another drink was in order. Seeing a long line at Woody’s Lunch Box, we quickly placed a mobile order for two Cokes. Then we moved to the shorter line for mobile orders where we waited and waited and waited. Initially, we were fine, and you all know me, I now had the opportunity to take a few photos. I love the theming of this little counter service spot. You’ll even see Luke waiting in the short mobile order line.
Eventually, as more and more of us were waiting, the line grew much longer and the crowd more restless. Because we were close to the front we were at least in the shade, but it was still hot for everyone. Then those of us who had placed orders first began to see folks who had only recently arrived, coming forward to pick up their orders. One lady who had been there when we arrived became quite upset over the situation. A cast member was stationed outside the mobile order pick up area. After a 20 minute wait, Luke asked him what the hold up was for an order that only had two Cokes. In just a moment the cast member was handing off our drinks to us. We have noticed this problem before with mobile ordering just drinks. The cast members filling orders seem oblivious to those small orders, and instead fill those with meals first. Very disappointing!
The point had been to have the drinks to sip on while in line, but now we had waited so long that we both also needed restroom breaks. I was also feeling the heat more, feeling thirsty and sweaty, so while Luke was in the restroom, I finished my Coke before we even entered the ride queue. On the plus side, the standby wait was now posted as 45 minutes. I did keep my ice. Luke nursed his drink to the end of the queue. Where we initially entered the queue, there was no shade, though periodically as the line moved, the air was circulated by a couple of large fans. Folks in the shade were reluctant to move ahead until they thought they’d be back in the shade or by a fan, which unfortunately, kept others of us out in the sun. In the end, the wait was around 35 minutes, so not too bad. I took a few photos right at the start, but there wasn’t much to see at this point. When we finally reached the shady portion of the queue, my phone came back out for a few photos of this cute and quirky little ride. This attraction reminds me a bit of the Mater ride at Disneyland. Both make me laugh convulsively.
I was now hungry for a little lunch. We headed back to Woody’s Lunch Box, and this time entered the queue rather than placing a mobile order. It was well after lunch time so the line wasn’t very long now. Luke who wasn’t really hungry told me to get whatever I wanted and he might take a few bites. I remember having a brief, but interesting conversation with the cast member stationed at the head of the line directing folks to ordering podiums. It had something to do with where he was from, but I’d only be guessing now on our conversation. But I do remember that he was a very nice fellow. I ordered a Grilled Three Cheese Sandwich with melted provolone and cheddar cheeses with a cheddar cream cheese spread on garlic buttered grilled artisan French bread, along with potato barrels (think tater tots) and two more Cokes.
Once we had our food, the search was on for a shady table or bench, but we had absolutely no luck on that. But then a very nice lady from Ohio came over and offered to share her high-top table under an umbrella with us. So sweet! She said she had watched our wanderings as we searched for some shade. She was just down for one night as she had two days off rom work and wanted to experience Toy Story Land. Now that is a dedicated Disneyphile!
Finally, it was time for Slinky Dog Dash, using our third FastPass+. We had a very short wait and then we on board. Sadly, almost immediately, I was desperate motion sick despite the Dramamine I had taken earlier. Because I didn’t feel well, I also felt the ride was too long and jerky. I was praying for it to end so I could just get off. I may never ride it again as the mental damage has been done. But Luke loved it! Poor thing didn’t even realize how terrified I was that I was going to throw up and embarrass myself. He led me straight away to the restrooms in the old Pixar Place. Thus, not a single photo of the attraction on a sunny day. I even have some cute paper I was planning to use for a scrapbook layout on this attraction. Maybe next trip I will stay on solid ground while Luke rides, then I can get some great photos for the scrapbook.
At this point I was more than ready to leave the park and head to Disney Springs for shopping and dinner.
Sorry it was so hot at TSL! You’d think they would design it with shade in mind. At least you got to ride everything. Sorry the Dramamine wasn’t working. And sorry for the long wait for the Coke! Geesh!
Nice time in TSL for the most part. That was a ridiculous wait fro your Cokes and they need to be more organized with this! Too bad you experience on SDD was not that great but at least Luke enjoyed it as I know he would. At least your lunch was good and got to experience TSL.

So sorry you felt so sick on Slinky Dog! We never got a chance to ride it. I have found since reaching my mid 50's that I have a hard time with the coasters and even ToT. Bummer, just another reminder I'm getting old. How nice of the lady from Ohio to offer her table. Some of the nicest people come from Ohio! Looking forward to more!
