A Magical voyage across the pond LIVE UPDATE 9/30 - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love your magnets - you did a great job on them! And it makes it so much easier to find your cabin (especially after some of the mixology classes!) when your door has something unique to you!
Your magnets turned out great Cheryl!!! I really love the pumpkin one and Mari is going to be so surprised when she sees the beautiful job you did on all the trips you've taken together! How wonderful that you've found such nice people to travel with. I'm with you on dining in the same place that you're staying after a long day of sightseeing!
Oooh, the magnets are awesome! Really cute. And yes, makes it super easy to find your door in the long corridor of monotony.
Good call for dinner at each hotel. I often do that as well, especially after a long drive to a hotel for hockey tournaments! Whatever the closest restaurant is - it's the winner!

The magnets are all really cute
We ate at Bouchard a number of years ago and the food and service were excellent
Check out the immediate surrounding area as there are a lot of places that are minutes walking distance
We love the Midtown Oyster Bar right at the corner of Thames Street for awesome seafood

I hadn't thought of that - what a great additional benefit!

Long corridor of monotony.... love it!

I know it's a cop out, but sometimes it's the simplest solution and even better if they're well rated on TripAdvisor as well.

Good to know!

Great job with the magnets and quite creative as I know you were a bit worried how they'd turn out! If they were mine, I'd be quite happy with them! Looks like some good reservations for dining in New England!

October 6, 2017-Enjoying an amazing dinner at Victoria & Albert's with PP's Dot and Drew
My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
So, as we edge closer to the cruise, there isn’t really much news, apart from little things, mainly from the Facebook groups. Interestingly, on the New York City to Quebec City cruise, they’ve now started to gather names for alcohol tastings on that cruise and they’re looking to do them on at sea days. I did post to explain the situation with the Transatlantic cruise and that there would be no alcohol tastings on that cruise on at sea days, but apparently Disney have said something very different for this cruise. Weird… you’d think they’d be consistent. Obviously not…
We now have an idea of the films that will be playing on board as well, which are:
• Dr. Strange
• Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2
• Thor: Ragnorak
• Coco
• Black Panther
• A Wrinkle in Time
• Avengers: Infinity War
• Solo: A Star Wars Story
• Incredibles 2
• Ant map
• Wasp
• Christopher Robin
Yes, that is quite the line-up, but I guess it is 11 nights and a lot of sea days in that. Of those, I was very surprised to see Coco, given that was on our southern Caribbean cruise in January and I know I wasn’t the only one.
I’d like to see:
1. Black Panther – I had no interest in it when it was originally released, but as I’ve heard nothing but good things since then from everyone who’s seen it, I’ve changed my mind
2. A Wrinkle In Time – maybe… not so sure about this one, but it’s a possibility
3. Solo: A Star Wars Story – I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would when we saw it at the cinema in May and I was hoping it would be on board
4. Incredibles 2 – this only opened here in mid-July and, much as I’d love to see it, it’s just not going to happen, so I figure we can watch it on the cruise.
5. Christopher Robin – this is the one I’m most excited about. Now, I am so excited about this film that I am taking the day off work when it opens over here. I have been utterly enchanted by all the trailers ever since I first saw it and honestly I tear up when I watch them. To me, this is how I envisaged the characters from the books looking if they were toys and I am just hoping that it lives up to my expectations…
Someone also asked whether there’s likely to be special merchandise for the Transatlantic cruise, which is something I hadn’t thought about, but it was a good question… and the answer? Well, it turns out they do, which is really neat! I cannot wait to see what they have and I guess it means a trip to the shops earlier in the cruise, rather than later, will probably be a good plan…
It raises an interesting question in my mind. How do Disney manage to work out how much special merchandise they need, when they can only really able to sell it on one cruise? It’s a bit different to have Mediterranean or Alaskan stuff that lasts a whole season, but wow, that’s a challenge – you only have 11 nights to sell everything. Impressive.
Another question was who the guest lecturer would be. No news about that at this stage, but there is speculation that there may not be one, given Michelle Mallardi from Beauty and the Beast is on board our cruise. However, the only information I had about that was that the sailings “may also include meet-and-greets with the stars during exclusive Q&A sessions, plus adults-only shows in the evening.” I have a sneaking suspicion that there will still be a guest lecturer on board, but we’ll see…
Next: Guess who will also be sailing with Mickey from NYC?
Just got all caught up! Love how everything comes together! Your magnets are great and I agree, they are very useful for identifying your door! We don't participate in FE, because frankly, I don't want to spend all that time wandering hallways with a boatload of tchotchkes and toys. I took and sewed the pockets on my FE closed and hang it as a banner outside our door. Works great!
I love your plans for visits while in Newport and can't wait to hear about them. The far wilds of the northeast is on my bucket list! It's the one area of the US I haven't traveled to.
