Major pixies needed please [updated 4/3, post #306] - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Such wonderful news that Lenny is doing well and will be going back to work. I'm sure it's been a tough time for you all but it sounds like you're going to get back to some sense of normalcy with your schedules.

It's official. Lenny just left the house and is on his way to work for the first time in almost 7 months. It's an exciting and nerve wracking day at the same time. I'm excited for him he's on his way to work. Nerve wracking because I don't know how he's going to be. I swear it's almost like sending your kid to school for the first time. Lenny has been feeling good and he said he was ready to go in today. It will be sink or swim though as there is no easing his way in. He left as full time and he'll go back as full time and being retail that's open 7 days a week, his first day off will be Wednesday. Also working full time at Home Depot, he'll once again be scheduled the full 40 hours. They're not like other retail places that say anything over 30 hours is full time - it's the full 40. Actually 42.5 is what he gets scheduled because he only takes a half hour meal break.
Since that's the case, his therapist said she's only going to have him do PT once a week now so as to not over work him. I'll have to figure out how to do family walks as they won't be as frequent now. We did pick up a new exercise bike that Lenny has told me he'll use in the mornings before going in. I hope so but since I'll be at work, I won't know for sure. I just know he has said he'll use it as he's been feeling stronger with everything he's doing. He's not past the way he was walking before this all started but he's hoping to get there eventually. I hope it does too. It would be great if he could come out doing better than before.
That's all I have for now until he comes home and tells me how it went but that all depends upon if I'm awake or not when he gets home. I probably will be as I'll want to see for myself he's okay but that won't be until almost 11 pm tonight so there won't be any more news in here today. I will come back and let everyone know though.
WooHoo! It's been a long path and I understand your nerves today. Sending some that Lenny quickly adjusts to the new schedule. I know he will be worn out for a few weeks until he gets back into the swing of things. As a retired school teacher, I do remember how exhausted I always was the first couple of weeks of school. It looks like a lot of your family walks will now be girl time with just you and Abby. That may not be so bad either, as it will give the two of you some valuable focused time together.
Lenny called on his first 15 minute break and his dinner break. He's glad to be back at work and said it's going well. The first call he said he felt a little weak but that's to be expected with the amount of time he's been out of work. He sounds in good spirits and even said he may go into work early tomorrow as he had a bunch of computer training to do. Since he's nowhere near his 40 hours for the week (Home Depot is strange - their week goes from Monday to Sunday) he can "get away" with doing it and getting it done.
I'm sure he'll be exhausted by the time he comes home tonight but I'm happy he's in good spirits and feels well. I think that's half the battle to going back.
On a really bright note, Lenny (meaning me really) can finally log onto the Home Depot employee site to get things like his schedule, time off requests, paystubs, etc. and one of the things we can look at is accrued sick time and vacation time. I don't know why but I was thinking that when Lenny went back they'd "probably" let him take the two weeks in August for Disney without too much hassle. I also was thinking IF we were lucky, he might be able to get paid for one of those weeks as vacation. I guess I was thinking they'd treat him like a new employee, which he isn't. He would have recently "celebrated" his two year anniversary had he been there. He wasn't due to his medical leave but everything he had continued as if he was still there so what that means is 2 years at Home Depot equates to 80 hours of vacation. I cannot tell you exactly what I felt when I read that. I guess it was a combination of disbelief as well as relief. I had added to our vacation budget two weeks pay plus the cost of two weeks health insurance premiums figuring we wouldn't get the first but we'd still have to pay the second as well as the rest of our bills. Now I won't need that money. Lenny will get regular paychecks and the insurance will still come out of them. If that doesn't seem to make sense, I'm still on the "Lenny's getting disability and the health insurance gets paid by us, not the disability company" routine. I'm not sure how and when it will transition back to Home Depot taking it out of his paycheck instead of our checking account. That's a headache for another day however, I am not worried about it today as we're covered through April 30th (well as soon as they take the money we will be) so I have a month to worry about the how and when.
Other than that though, that's the second update for today. Lenny's doing well and glad to be back, I've already gotten his schedule and put in a bunch of days we already know he needs (but we can't do Disney - too far away but we're still going to take the local HR guys offer to put it in for us), and I found out Lenny will get 80 hours of vacation this year. Yeah, a good day.
Glad Lenny is having a good day. That's great that he is now going to get 2 weeks vacation. With all his medical days off, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had lost it. What great news!
That' great news! Glad Lenny was doing well and enjoying being back at work. Yay to learning your vacation is covered as well! That's always a good thing to learn!
I'm glad Lennie's first day back went well. It great that he has vacation time coming.
Where I work the week runs Saturday to Friday which is really odd, It took a while to get used to that, We all start out with 80 hours in the beginning of the year and add to it each week. I get about an hour for each day I work added to the original 80. It's hard to use ii all.
