From no trip to celebrating 20 years together… planning it all in less than 100 days! UPDATED 6/30 - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I can't believe you didn't take home a $6000 body suit or two!
Well, you know, I was tempted, but it was all those issues with getting it through security at the airport... I wasn't sure that we'd be allowed to wear it through there, so I gave up with the idea at that point!
Looks like you and Mark are enjoying your at at SWLB, OMD and TSMM! I can't believe the prices in the shop as those are just insane! But, there are some who visit, have plenty they are willing to spend on things like this! I've always enjoyed OMD and a favorite of time, but so often I forget to visit! Nice try in trying to beat Mark at TSMM and hoping your turning the corner!

I'm sure there are - I'd love to meet some of them, as I just can't imagine ever having enough money to spend on things like that.
Sunday 26 February – part four: “park in transition”…
Next it was time to go and do this…
Mark was a sport and waited in line, while I sat outside. Again, how would having a wheelchair accessible line help me in this situation? Ok, enough said…
In fairness, although they said it was a 20 minute wait, it was closer to 10, and we were quickly in to see Olaf. Much as I adore this snowman, I find the character meets a bit of a let down. We met him on the Wonder on our last Alaskan cruise, and could barely get a response out of him, despite chatting to him, and it was the same today, which I thought was a bit of a shame.
When we came out of there, we made our way over to Tattooine Traders…
Oh my goodness, what a disappointment this was. There was so little for adults, something that we seem to say all too often at Disney. Why do they forget us? For goodness sake, this is Star Wars, the thing all fathers love (well nearly all… ), just think of how much they’d spend on items they could wear…

Overall though, it felt as it was much less disrupted than six months ago, although we did think that some of the attractions are in odd places. The Star Wars Launch Bay is so far away from the rest of the Star Wars section, and the Olaf meet and greet isn’t next door to the Frozen Sing-Along, which we thought it would be. We thought “park in transition” was a nice description…
We made our way back towards the front of the park…
… and were fortunate enough to catch some of the March of the First Order, which was very impressive. I really wanted to ask questions afterwards, as I wanted to know if they were dancers, as the marching was excellent, and I know in Doctor Who, when they have aliens (or humans actually ) marching, they often get a choreographer in to train them…
We made our way out through the shops, and although I browsed the handbags (mine is getting past its best now ), neither of us found anything we liked, which was a real shame.
As you can see, socks are in! I kept looking at these and thinking they were ties!
We discussed this a lot during our trip – why the heck is Disney marketing stuff from the Adventurers’ Club when they closed it down years ago? Sigh. They could so easily bring it back, and clearly if they have T-shirts etc., there’s obviously still an interest/demand for it.
This was a suitcase – isn’t it cool?!

I've thought the same things about Star Wars. It's all over the place! How are they going to bring it all together? I guess we'll see.
Bummer Olaf didn't play with you guys. We had a great interaction with him - but of course most characters do get excited when they see a stuffed animal so that may have helped....

I can see why people are saying that, but like that's ever going to happen! On that subject, I'd love to know how many people buy one-day tickets these days. I'm willing to bet it's a minuscule proportion of the overall sales. To me, those are the only people who could realistically say they think they should get a discount, as everyone else gets to enjoy all the other parks.

I suspect the Launch Bay won't survive once the land opens. I don't have any insider information, but it was always my understanding that was in there just to tease people until the land opened...

Can you imagine collecting that off a luggage carousel? My goodness, you'd be the envy of everyone, although it may not survive if you let it out of your sight. I can just imagine someone taking a shine to it....

Most definitely a park in transition. We did not even visit DHS while we were down there this time. We felt like there was no point as we had seen the Launch Bay already and there are only 2 rides we would go on. So sad.
I have to agree about the socks, we totally thought they were ties at first and were very disappointed that they were socks. Disney is completely missing out on that one. Had they been ties we would have bought one or two. The CM's we mentioned that to said the same, many people would rather have ties then socks. They need to pass that on.
