The 'This Trip Keeps Getting Longer' Trip: PTR - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That's the way the crowds were that day, but I didn't go for the festival, but lunch before I headed home!

OMG - I have never ever seen crowds like that in EPCOT. Leaving MK after Wishes, Yes but never at EPCOT even on a Saturday night during the last weekend of F&W. I would have run for the hills!

I was also there that day and could not believe the crowds! Glad I just went for lunch and not the Festival!

even leaving after wishes, it's like...organized chaos. this was just wall to wall, ear to ear people trying to eat small plates of food. also there was alcohol. so yeah. we got out!
sorry for the long pause and also for the fact that this update is going to be short. i have to wake up in 6 hours and drive far and i'm still not asleep so yeah...this week has been crazy.
anyway.
i'm going to keep copy/pasting these into each post so i remember where i am:
Day 2 Table of Contents
1. a short summary of the boring stuff--a morning in future world.
2. off to a not-great start at food and wine fest (aka: food and wine fest on a saturday.) 3. lunch plan b. I AM HERE
4. wilderness lodge and actual wildlife.
5. my husband becomes a small child in the magic kingdom.
6. that time the bartender actually got so angry she started throwing things.
***
3. lunch plan b.
I last left you halfway through lunch plan b. you will recall that the plan was to go to the boardwalk and have a corn dog and a margarita. but then my husband was like 'let's go to big river grille and have a beer and a real sit down lunch'. and i was like 'ok!' and we got there and it was empty and the hostess was super nice and the server was super nice and we ordered a beer and all was good. and then i opened the menu...
seriously? i was in the hospital a lot this year. i only got to actually eat there a couple of times (because i was in for abdominal surgery so i couldn't really eat) but i need to say this: the menu at the hospital is more appealing than the menu at big river grill. and the food is better.
i settled upon a grilled chicken sandwich, which i think we can agree is THE MOST BORING THING EVER, because the server promised me some chipotle mayo. and i was like: ok. i'll try the $15 grilled chicken sandwich.
and then it came out. and i swear to you--it was a grilled chicken TENDER on a bun the size of a softball. it was laughable. and $15.
so i did the reasonable thing and got really mad at my husband for making me go there.
he got mad back, and i was like 'why didn't you just let me have my damn $4 corn dog?' and he was like GO THEN. go have your corndog.
and i did. and it was good. and it was $4 and exactly what i wanted.
he found me later as i was sitting on a bench taking a photo of said corn dog and waiting for my dole whip with rum to melt enough to drink from a straw. he was like 'you'd BETTER be taking a picture of that or else i'm going to ram it up your...' and then he used a very non disney word. and i smiled and ate my corn dog and shared my dole whip with him--and then he ran off to get his own dole whip. and we walked back to the car at the swan and drove over to wilderness lodge to check in.
4. wilderness lodge and actual wildlife.
at this point i still had not received my 'your room is ready' text, but it was pretty early--around 1pm. so we dropped our bags off with bell services (i didn't want to have to hike out to the car again) and took a little tour of the resort. doug had never seen WL before (shocking, right?) so i showed him around the lobby which was still stunning even though it was under construction. and then we found the pool and grabbed a seat at the pool bar and ordered a drink. the bartender was overwhelmed but very nice. yay pool bartender! i had my first jai alai of the trip (an ipa from a tampa-based brewery that i love) and doug had a cider. after the first sip my phone buzzed, informing me that our room was ready. perfect timing!
doug gathered our things from bell services and we made our way to our room in the villas. and i have to say: as soon as i walked in i was sad that we were only there for a night.
it was the best room ever.
i'll tell you why...in the next installment! (sorry. i'm not purposefully leaving you in suspense. i just really do have to sleep now.)
Oh my goodness, that's classic about the non-Disney word - so brilliantly told! We've never been to the Big River Grille and, frankly given your description, I doubt we ever will...
Sorry you didn't care for the offerings. To each his own, I guess. We love to eat at Big River Grille on our BWV arrival day. Have done it twice now and had great meals.
Too funny about your journey to get to that desired corn dog. I admit I would have reacted similarly. Never eaten at Big River Grille - I can definitely scratch that off of any list.
Looks good at the WL and no surprise as once you get comfortable at the bar, your room was ready! I'm not a big fan of Big River Grille either with just so-so food and service to match in my experiences there.

i've been there before. go for the beer. do not go for the food. (though now that there's a better bar option on the boardwalk, don't even go to for the beer. more on that soon!)

my mom likes it there. she said she had a good burger. which is nice. if one wants a burger. i'm an admitted food snob, so take what i say with a grain of salt.
