Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Good luck with the FP+ selections. Sounds like you have some issues that complicate matters that's for sure. I wouldn't worry so much about them not speaking English. I always found CMs that spoke Spanish. And I wasn't even looking for them. It's a pretty popular second language to know.

Ugh! FP+! I'm ignoring it until I have to absolutely deal with it. So I wish you the best of luck!
I thought CMs that spoke different languages had something on their name tag that let you know - either the words or a flag? Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Very interesting! I love that you and the boys are bi-lingual , such an asset today. I knew that you lived in PR, but I guess I don't realize that your husband only spoke Spanish.

And yes, there are many CM's that speak Spanish.....so I wouldn't be too worried about hubby

I fell a bit behind. I'm sorry you had the situation with your mom. It's always hard when people speak their minds when maybe they should hold their tongues. Congrats on getting the tickets ordered, I hope they show up in time. Congrats on the possible DLR trip. We were planning one in January, but are moving it to Nov/Dec if we can. I really struggled with making our FP+ selections, between deciding on the rides and then trying to get times that worked for us was a little challenging. However, when we were in Disney it was really convenient and worked great for us. Hopefully, you will have the same experience.

HEY - Jersey girl in the house - me too!

I can't comment much about FP+ as I haven't used it but I'm not happy that you can only get 3 per day as I would have gotten more than that in paper form.
I hope they change that, and the one park per day as that is a real pain.

You might want to get a DAS card so if the line is too long you don't have to wait.
I'm not sure how my sone will handle some of the rides, he is still pretty timid.

Just joining in. I'm excited for you to stay at my favorite resort! Your plans look great and I wouldn't worry about the FP+. And hey, maybe your tickets will arrive a little earlier than expected! Also, I wouldn't worry too much about Arben not speaking English. Many of the CMs speak Spanish, so he shouldn't have trouble finding one if necessary (but I think you're worrying for nothing ).

Yeah, they do. They have the country from where they are. On our last trip we encountered one from PR and chatted with her. He'll be fine that is if he's actually willing to go on his own.

I've spoken English to them since they were little. My oldest speaks it the best. If you heard him you wouldn't even know he was born over here. My hubby doesn't know squat. The kids make fun of him when he tries to say something.

Thanks! I'm trying to keep an open mind with the FP+. Maybe it'll help us slow down and actually relax and enjoy the parks much more.

Jersey!

I never thought about getting a DAS card. I don't think I would feel comfortable having one. I think there are people who need them more than I do. I'll just work around the rides.

Thanks for following along!

I know I'm worrying too much, I'm such a control freak. I'm still two and half months away, I could probably teach Arben some basic English phrases. Like: "I'm lost", "Where is (insert attraction name)?", etc.

Finally, all caught up First, take a deep breath and know you can change your FP+ in the park at Kiosks or if you have smartphones, you can put the My Disney App on. If you can't get the app in Puerto Rico for free, maybe you can download it once you're in the states?

As long as Arben can remember "Do you speak Spanish?" he can communicate with any CM - if they don't speak Spanish, they'll be able to find him someone who does. He can also say, "hablas espanol?" My friend learned that when traveling with her family from Mexico last December. There are also maps with Spanish available at the ticket booths, so that might make him feel a bit more comfortable too.

We find as a family that we have to split up at times in order to accommodate the things the boys are interested in. Speaking of boys - wow, yours boys look so grown up! Your youngest and my oldest are in the same grade though your son seems to tower over mine. Nolan will be 9 in May and finally, with tennis shoes on, is registering 48". He's also the biggest chicken of the three of my kiddos.

Yeah, I have the app. I'm hoping the in-park wifi wirks well. Charges would be outrageous if we used the internet on our plan.

We are definitely splitting up. In fact, there won't be many mornings where Arben will be at the parks.

Adriel is very big. He's like 1-2 inches shorter than Abniel. And Abniel is 19 months older. He's also bulkier than Abniel so they can't even share clothes, especially pants. Right now I think Adriel is about 4'10 in height. That is huge for a third grader. I'm definitely going to be the smallest one.

Countdowns and other stuff

I love doing countdowns! It makes me even more excited about the trip. So, of course, this year was no exception.

Thanks to Pinterest, I had many ideas for this year's countdown. Ultimately I decided on the least expensive option. Besides, I didn't want to spend too much on it and then throw it away. This is what I did.

Starting next week, each day one of the boys will put a Disney sticker on the countdown. Not the most creative but it works. I printed the first one (60-31) at Walgreens. I got a coupon for a free 8x10 photo, so I took advantage. I'm waiting to see if I get another discount coupon in the next couple of days, if not I'll just print it anyways.

Also, at 30 days I'll start the second part of the countdown. Each day, the person in charge of putting the sticker will get to choose a little gift. This idea also came from Pinterest. Did I mention how much I love Pinterest? Anyways, I'm planning on swinging by Party City as I saw a couple of Disney things I can buy for Abniel and Adriel. On the other hand, I have no idea what to buy for AJ. The presents will be inexpensive, no more than $2 because I need to buy 30.

And last but not least, I plan on doing a countdown here on my PTR. This will also start 30 days out. Still haven't decided what I'm doing but I saw something on a PTR here that I may borrow.

I'm planning something fun for the kids at the parks. Again, thank you Pinterest! This fun activity has an ulterior motive.

Disney Bingo! There are rides, photo ops, character meets, spotting certain things, there are even a couple of food items to have. All three of them have to do the activity, unless it's a roller coaster then only the people who dare to go on will have to complete it. They will each get a prize with each finished card. There are some things that they would not do in a million years but now have to in order to complete the cards. I'm so sneaky.

These are the ones I personalized. I plan on printing them on cardstock paper and then laminating them. I bought star stickers so they can put on each completed activity. My kids are competitive so I know they'll want to complete these. Plus they get a prize, who wouldn't want that?

I really like your countdown! Cute idea giving out small gifts. BINGO looks like a lot of fun. I just love Pinterest.
