The “”I Don’t Have to Cook for 10 Days" TR - Aug 17-27, 2010 - COMPLETED 11/2! - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Loved the pics of the pool are! We stayed at CSR last trip and some of our favorite memories were the kids playing at the playground the last day (too cold to swim in Nov...). Now our family is too big for CSR...
Great pool time! The next update sounds like it might be stormy!

Ah, the joys of Disney rain! We started eating breakfast in our room after our first year and it's soooo much nicer! We get the kids eating while we get ready then we get them ready to go out - save lots of time.

Glad you enjoyed the pics My kids loved the playground, but found it too hot to play there for long - opposite of your experience; we can't win!

After our yummy lunch, we went to make the kids t-shirts at Design-a-Tee. They had a blast choosing their colours and designs – Sabrina’s is pink with a black Tinkerbell design, with ‘Disney Diva’ written on it. Alex’s is red with a ‘Sorceror Mickey’ picture, and ‘Making Magic with Mickey Mouse’ written on it. They’d be ready in an hour, but we asked if we could pick them up later after our dinner at Planet Hollywood. Once we knew that was fine, we moved on to Dave’s favourite – the Christmas store! The kids played with the stuffed animals while Dave shopped the breakable decorations.
We bought a beautiful Mickey and Minnie ornament for each of our parents – they were in cream and burgundy, on skates. We also got our annual dated ornament, a silver ornament stand that has a Mickey outline on the top, and 2 stuffed Mickey head pumpkins. After we were shopped out here, we moved on to Pin Traders.
This was our first trip with pins, but we had yet to trade any – and we still didn’t here! The kids did pick out a few though – Sabrina got a Minnie pin and a Jasmine one; Alex got Sorcerer Mickey and Jafar. Then it was on to Once Upon a Toy, where we surprisingly didn’t spend very much time – usually we are in here forever! We did look around a little and the kids made Mr. Potato Heads on the computer.
When we left, we spotted Ghirardelli’s. We’d never eaten here before (I know, gasp! ), so we felt an ice cream was necessary right now. Dave and I ordered strawberry, Sabrina got vanilla with sprinkles, and Alex got chocolate with sprinkles. Delicious! This ice cream really is better than most that I’ve had – and we got free little chocolates and a kids goody bag.
"You've got a little something on your face buddy..."
Now it was time for the real damage – World of Disney. First up, getting spit on by Stitch, then some shopping! We were in WOD forever. We ,,, to browse in there and take our time selecting things. This trip was even nicer for us because we usually end up at DTD at night and are rushed because the kids are getting tired or it’s super busy in there. This time, no whining kids, and no madhouse! We bought: 2010 scrapbook kit for me, earrings for my DD and my niece, a Minnie Mouse play set for DD, Fantasmic figurines for DS, a Stitch stuffed animal, a pancake shaper-thing, a bottle opener, a magnet, and a prince play set for my niece.
As we were getting ready to pay, I noticed the ominous looking skies. Here we go again! I left Dave in line and headed over to the Lego store with the kids. Just as we got there, the skies opened and down came the rain. I brought the munchkins to play with the Legos and we watched the rain from there. Dave waited it out a bit in WOD, but finally gave up and came running through the raindrops over to us. We let the kids continue to play while Dave searched for some Lego men and a kit for my nephew. After successfully finding something we thought he’d love, we realized that in spite of our hopes, this rain wasn’t going to slow down.
That sky doesn't look good!
"We're so scared!"
Look at that rain!
Continued....

Reason: Typos : )
We took off in the downpour (no ponchos of course – why would I bring those?) to our reservation at Planet Hollywood. We made it in time, but we were definitely not dry! We were seated quickly and used some napkins and a towel we had brought to dry off a little. Our drinks came quickly and our server grabbed our orders. While we were waiting, Alex was playing around with his napkin, swinging it over his head. Somehow he clipped Sabrina’s drink, and down it went, all over Dave. Between tears – mine from laughing, Alex’s from being upset, and Sabrina’s from having no more Coke – we got it all cleaned up. The poor waitress probably thought we were loons!
I'm looking like a drowned rat, but I still like this picture of Alex and I.
A little wet but enjoying that Coke!
After dinner, we wandered around the West side for a bit; the rain had slowed to a light drizzle by this point thankfully! We browsed in a few stores, and the kids spotted colouring pages in D-Street, so we spent a few minutes in there. The displays of the Vinylmations in here may have won me over a bit, as I didn’t really care for them before. But there were lots of cute ones there, so maybe one of these days I’ll get a few....
A cool chandelier made of Vinylmations.
Working hard on their colouring
From here, we made our way to Design-a-Tee to pick up our shirts and to Goofy’s to pick up some treats. The kids had a riot in the funhouse mirror, then spent forever choosing their goodies. We finally settled on blue cotton candy for Alex, a pink sandal Selma cookie for Sabrina, and Mammoth Pecan Pattie for me (yum, I can taste it now!), and a white chocolate chip Selma cookie for Dave. With purchases in hand, we headed to the bus stop and back to the hotel.
Goofy kids!
After changing into PJs, the kids settled down with their snacks. Sabrina bit into hers, and started to cry that her loose tooth hurt. We looked and it was just hanging there; Dave grabbed a Kleenex and finished the job. Ecstatic over losing her tooth at Disney, there was a lot of cheering and celebrating. She was even happier in the morning when she saw that not only had the tooth fairy left her money, but Tink had dropped by and left her some Tink Trendy-Bendyz and a Tink charm.
All gone!
Tomorrow was another opportunity to make rope drop, but since we were planning a later night at the park, we decided not to push the kids and we’d wake up without an alarm again.
Up next: “Wait, I think I know her....”

Yeah, I remember that storm well! We were lucky - our restaurant had towels for us to use. I have to admit, I still don't get the appeal of Vinylmation...I don't get what you do with them? And we have a picture of DS, when he lost a tooth while we were sitting at Bengal Barbeque in Disneyland! Although, he didn't get any extra visits from other fairies that night!
Gosh, I can't believe I'm actually your teaser! (Oh, shoot! Did I just give something away? )

I am loving so much about your TR! I love your writing sytle! I love that you seem to be making the best of every moment!
Sounds like you picked a great day to visit DTD. I know this was not your only day with rain, but it seems like DTD is one of the best places to be in the rain!
I am also amazed at the advanced planning tink and the tooth fairy had to do for lost teeth at WDW....Hmmm...
