the EIGHTEEN years, TEARS, CHEERS & Hurricane FEARS TR - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry you had to miss your BOMA ADR but glad everyone enjoyed CM. I could not get over your description of the rude CM and manager at the store. It really irks me that they might be having a bad day and then they go and treat the guests as it is there fault...what happened to that "putting a smile on it goes a long way" saying.
Sorry that you had to encounter such rude employees...
Couldn't get over the crowds you described over at DHS, glad you all enjoyed lunch even though it was mostly for the shakes and atmosphere. I too have never felt that the food at Sci-Fi was stand out but it is a fun time and the shakes are really good. Great place to run into for a snack or dessert.
Glad you got to enjoy some mom/daughter time at DHS after your dinner...sounded like you both had a great time.
Can't believe the trip is almost over.... but at least you know there are more coming up soon

Oh well, I'm already scheming, conniving, and otherwise plotting a way to get him back there!! The end is near, but it will have to wait... My short trip to NY is coming up tomorrow!

I finally got the chance to read this report, and it was great. I think that it's easy to forget that teen aged hormones can make for some interesting blowouts when they're thrown together on vacation. I've definitely had moments like the beginning of your trip, and we've ended up taking your approach of splitting up at times. It sure makes for a better trip for everyone.
And I have to say that whatever you did to fix your camera worked great! I truly love your pictures of Canada's grounds, and I'm thinking I need to spend some time there with my camera next week.
Wow that is something... the CM and the mananger behavior. THough I have to say I was there during the Rain of Fay. I am guessing the weather got to a lot of people. I saw guests arguing with CM at MK about whether the park would close or not. I was at guest relations and the CM seemed thrilled that I was there to upgrade my pass, not ask them to make it stop raining or promise me that they would not close. I watched as several Cm were put thru the Gauntlet. Having been so many times I have encountered tired children with parents that get frustrated by their behavior, that is just a given in Disney. But that week I saw twice........ Parent/Adult Temper tamtrums. At the bustop at POFQ I was near a couple with a kid about 10. THe parents were argueing and the Man got mad and stormed off ( presumably back to his room) The kid ignored the parents fighting til Dad stomped off, then told his Mom he was going to Dad. I will give Mom credit that she got up and looked to make sure Dad had the kid and was aware the little boy was following him. By the time we got on the bus all 3 were together again. The second time some Teen aged boys were in line behind me at Splash Mt. and dad got in line a minute later,if that and was mad that the boys did not wait for him to get in line with him ( it was like a 30 sec differnce) one of the boys said we did not know you stopped, the dad said he was putting something in the Backpack and they should have waited. They kind of shrugged and the next thing you know, dad just left the line mad. The 3 boys just kind of looked at each other, said nothing and then waited in line to ride as they could have cared less that Dad changed his mind. Not once did these kids mention it, So I am thinking they were used to this behavior and they sure did not feel any guilt. I thought that both of these Guys were very childish in their behavior, though I suppose I don't know how often this went on. I felt bad for the little kid who had to go get his Dad to come back. THe other one, I don't know I guess I would talk to them at some point about making sure we are all together. I chalked it up to frustration and anger over the weather being what it was combined with the cost of being there. But really I never felt that all the rain made my trip less fun. Only more of an Adventure.
ANyway glad you enjoyed the meal at Cape May. too funny about your experience on RnR and forgetting the upside down part. Did you enjoy it anyway? I found that after Tuesdy rain, people came out of the rooms and really hit the parks.

last time we were there a 10ish age boy was whining about having to put on the rain poncho. his dad turned around, literally ripped the poncho off the boy, tore it up some more and put it in the trash. then turned to the surprised boy and said "are you happy now?" and stormed off. sometimes the stress of trying to have lots of fun just comes out in inappropriate ways.

I'm sure that the rain made everyone more I think Disney can be very stressful for anyone ~ anytime. On my solo trip last December, I noticed more bickering between mom's and dad's or kids and parents, etc. It really made me sad. One dad got mad at his little girl at MVMCP and said "that's it, we're leaving" It wasn't even 7 pm yet and the party hadn't even started.

I'm all caught up! Great updates! Sounds like you've been enjoying some pretty good meals (some better than others...) Glad you enjoyed RRC and TSM! Can't wait to read more.......
I think that's why my BIGGEST tip to ANYONE going to Disney would be DON"T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF. I was so worried about the little things at first that I was too worried about the small stuff! It is hard when you have a small amount of time and you spend a big amount of money, but if people can go in more relaxed (which we FINALLY did!) then it makes for a much better vacation!
