A Dream is a Wish--Mini-TR [UPDATED WITH PIX posts 316 & 320] - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Today was a "rest" day. Hot tub after breakfast, lunch at a Thai place (my parents treated us) and then the FREE!!!! Holiday market at Knott's Berry Farm. We had a nice time but today I basically just feel absolutely exhausted. Looking forward to getting a decent night's sleep.
I just heard the first firework, I think. Have I mentioned we can hear the railroad whistle. Yes, I have. It's so awesome!!!
Tomorrow is Magic Morning at 7 (WTH!!!!) AM. Yikes. I'm seriously about to join camp no-rope-drop. We like the night so much more than the day, and we don't really care about "getting things done" too much, at least this group.
The plan is Peter Pan, since we missed it on day 1, then FP for Star Tours, Haunted Mansion, and HYPER-Space Mountain. We'll be chillin' on Tom Sawyer's Island in the interim times. Evening will be free-choice. Fighting the urge for that 3rd drink of the night. NO!!! I have to be human tomorrow!
SUPER EXCITING SECRET MEET UPDATE!!! A fellow PPer messaged me that they are here and are into meeting up. We have plans for drinks/snacks at Trader Sam's on Friday!!! They've never been!!! I'll post who it is once I get their permission, we've been texting and I haven't asked permission to share yet!
Sounds like a relaxing day was perfect for you all. Can't wait to hear about the secret mystery meet!
I'm pretty excited!

You said it! The rest day really did me well. I was so exhausted the whole day, but today I was "bright eyed and bushy tailed". The meet is going to be so cool!!!!
Yes. I have some reflections on that. Busy is not always best!

In retrospect, we really did. I feel like I need lots more than 5 park days to get intp a groove here.

Reflections on busy park days. I'm not so sure they are great. I'm really not used to being the tour leader in my family, and that part has required some adjustment.
SOOOOO tired, but I want to do a mini trip update before I got to sleep.
Mini TR #5.
DL Magic morning starting at 7am. Were lined up at the entrance by 6:25. Whoa, that sucked!
Peter Pan STILL had a 40 min line when we finally got there! Oh well, we rode. I was bummed about the refurb. London looks crap. The 2nd-to-last refurb stuff still looks great.
Ddad and I went to get FP to Star Tours while DS and Dmom rode little stuff in fantasyland. Before meeting up, Dad and I rode the matterhorn. The dark sequences are so awesome in this ride. They work perfectly, hope they never change!
Next came star tours and pixie hollow meets, followd by FP to HM. I lost my turn as my parents took longer to go through and DS wouldn't go on. I finally went solo with new FP, and was able to give away extra FP to folks getting in line too. I love the NBC overlay! Best version of this attraction yet, with exception of new intro in elevator. Like the orig better on that.
Next-back to condo for rest, swim, dinner
Back to parks before 6pm. Rode monorail in, went to tiki room, watched Paint the Night from a distance on Coke Corner patio, saw DL Forever Fireworks *sniff, love*, then my folks hauled my son home while I window shopped for an hour.
Another super-late night! I don't want to go to sleep without writing some of the day down, or I'll forget it! But first, I want to make a few notes about yesterday, including my PP meet!
Friday, no park.
Up early for a walk to GC. We were hoping to get Mom and Dad on the Art of the Craft Tour, but sadly, it was full. We did reschedule for Sunday, however!
DS was given a lanyard and pin by a stranger on our way through DtD. A big disappointment would follow, his pin (A nice 60th Anniversary one) got lost while he built a vehicle at the Lego store. We discovered it 5 minutes too late. A man had been asking if it belonged to anyone, and when no one claimed it he walked off with it. I might have done the same thing, but DS was absolutely crushed. He cried and kicked up such a fuss that I thought we were going to have to head home.
We did continue on to the GC, where I was hoping to do the Grand Quest with DS. BUT, it was 12:00, and it didn't start till 4:00. Again, he kicked up a bit of a fuss, and really was out of sorts. We separated from my parents, who headed back to our condo. DS and I explored the resort a bit and made it back for lunch and hot tubbing.
At 2:30, it was time for my PP meet, with our very own GingerJ. We met at Trader Sam's for cocktails and fries, and then took a stroll together before separating. We made a plan for us to join us for our A and E meet today. She's here on a solo trip, so she was happy to join up for a thing or two. We'd never met before, but we fell into a rhythm quickly and our conversation felt natural and fun pretty quickly. Maybe it was the Shrunken Zombie Head that Trader Sam made me? Or maybe she's just a really good listener? Sorry, and thanks, Ginger!
My dad dropped DS off to meet me at the GC for our Grand Quest scavencer hunt, and I don't want to drop any spoilers, but it was simple, fun, and the little prize at the end was neat!
Afterwards, we called it a night. Good to get a good night's sleep!
Saturday: Too much to mention, but we spent most of the day at the GC. The big thrill was meetin Anna and Elsa, with DS dressed up as Kristof. I made him a Kristof costume for a Frozen birthday party last year, and he agreed it would be awesome to wear to meet the princesses of Arendell. Yay for homeschooling, he's not ashamed to let his freak flag fly!
Ginger met us for that portion of our morning. I think she liked the idea of seeing the character interaction with his costume. Well, I'll tell you, that Anna is worth her weight in gold. She fawned and stuttered and got all swoony when DS showed his 7 year-old muscles, and they talked about his broken sled, and who knows what all. It was awesome, and I think most of the other guests were tickled with the whole thing.
Ginger went her own way after the meet, as did my parents. DS and I did some tobagoning at Olaf's Snow Fest, and we took in the sing-along. I know many of us are right sick of Frozen, but I'm a pretty solid fan. I did think the frozen sing-along missed the mark to some extent, but I still had fun.
Next DS and I cruised to DL, where I staked out a spot for the Christmas Fantasy parade. Not that I HAD to see it, but I wasn't ready to leave the parks and everything was PACKED. Today was Christmas holiday season, Season of the Force, and one of 2 candlelight procession nights for the whole season. Happily, I got a spot. I set DS up in the main street cinema, watching silent B&W disny clips, and I held our place.
After a dinner break, we were back to the parks in a rush to catch Viva Navidad. I can recommend this, I found it sincere and inspiring.
We tooled around till about 8, then Mom and Dad took DS back to the house and I met up with an old friend who was in town for the night. It was a short visit, I went back to the condo to refuel, and then Ginger and I met up and toured around from 9:30-midnight! Whee!!!! So nice to tour with another one of "us". She knows my life story now (sorry, and thanks again!) and we got in RSR (single rider), Big Thunder, and the Jingle Cruise in that time (that's 2 parks, folks!) plus a whole lot of gabbing. It was a great way to spend a late night at the parks!
Whew. Off to bed. Tomorrow's a no-park day.

I had a feeling your meet would be with Ginger, after I saw she was in Disneyland. So glad you got to meet up and your meet sounds like all PassPorter meets we've ever been to - even the first time you meet, you're happily chatting away as if you've always known each other.
Sounds like a mostly good trip so far, with some drama (it's a family trip, after all), and some very full days. How great to meet up with Ginger and some PassPorter chatter. I can't wait to see photos of your little Kristof and his meet with Anna. Sounds like a magical and fun meet.
