As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I just bought a new cell phone the other day that takes movies. It only doese 3 minutes at a time, but will hold a lot per stick. I am just planning on downloading at the photo stations on CD. I am not a big movie person anyway. I love photos.

Just two days ago we purchased a JVC Everio GZ-MG27u. The coolest thing about it is there are no mini-DVs, DVDs or memory cards to deal with. It has an internal 20G hard drive and can take up to 14 hours of video, depending on quality. It's small, about 2.5" high, 3" wide and 4" long. Here's the best part, though: there is an optional dock, about half the size of a laptop, that will burn your movies onto a DVD when your memory is full. We're going to WDW in 13 days and I'll post when I return with the above format including all the details. Wish me luck!

I can hook it to my notebook computer with the firewire port and download the video so i can make my own movies with windows movie maker or other software. and it is so lightweight, you do not even know its in your bag. battery seems to have a good life too, though i did buy a second one for a spare. i haven't done much recording in low-light yet. that is to be determined.

Like the Most: I love the hard disk. You can record for 7-12 hours, depending on the settings with out having to download.
It also takes the best night-time stills I have ever seem from a digital camera.
It's small easy to carry and fits in most digital camera backs or standard fanny packs.
Dislike: Not much. There is no media to buy or carry around. You need an extra battery, the battery does not last too long.
Also, you need to bring a laptop to download your video to, or a dvd burner.
How long: I've had this for 1.5 years or so.
Price: It was around $1200, but I love it.
Replacement: I would go with the Sony again but I would get the High Definition one this time.

My daughter and I both own a JVC -HD,The camera easily fitsi into ]a woman's palm. It takes both movies and still photos and came with a DVD/Burner. It just needs one cable to connect it to the DVD?Burner.
We enjoy the ease of taking movies, still photos with it and how easy it is to burn a DVd. . The results. satisfy us. There is a slot for a memory card. and movies can be down-loaded to a computer. The camcorder also has a docking station so it can be put on any DVD/Burner I think.
The only problem we have encountered when shooting movies of group activities in a large field is that if we get too far away from the action and use the digital zoom then we encounter wind noises.
In the past I used Sony camcorders and then copied them to VHS. tapes. I have lost all my movies now including great movies of the mountains here and movies of Disneyworld. but DVDs will be with us awhile and I don't plan to erase any movies that I down-load from my camcorder.
