Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: 2 Dental Diva’s and family go to WDW
Epcot with lunch at the Rose & Crown
Siobhan was so afraid to get close to the snail!
After a fitful nights sleep we were up and ready for breakfast around 7:00. We planned to eat at the Pepper Market 3 times while we at the hotel for breakfast but this was our one and only time. The place was very nice and I had eaten at a very similar place in Boston so I knew how do the whole get your ticket stamped thing, but it’s not a quick place to eat. I prefer a food court to this place. We made the mistake by ordering our mugs and separate drinks. We should have just got the mugs and gone up ourselves to fill them. The food was good but we like to go cheap for breakfast and this just wasn’t going to cut it. On our way back to the room the morning light was gorgeous so we took a few family pictures.
Doesn't the background look fake?
Once back in the room I packed a backpack with snacks, change of clothes for Jameson and some toys for him. We set out for Epcot around 8:30. Very few people were at the bus stop when we got there which so different than Pop. First on the agenda was to upgrade Jim, Jameson’s and my 5 day park hoppers to AP’s. At the guest services window it took forever because apparently our room key/tickets were only room keys. Once that was sorted out we got our cheapo paper tickets and we on our way to the main gate.
I wanted to show Pam our tile on the leave a legacy tomb stones and found it right away. We got our picture taken by it (with her camera not mine) and set out to get fast passes for Soarin’. What a flippin mess is the queue for that ride. It was such a jumbled up mess inside! Jim and Jameson waited outside for us while Pam and Siobhan came with me. I said to Pam on the way in the building “ Have you ever seen a line waiting to get into The land?” Uh no never! Once we were let inside (they only let us in by one door only) we had to wait in line to get down the escalator. Then by holding each others hand we managed to squeeze thru the massive crowds to the fast pass machine. In all it took about 30 minutes from start to finish. We took so long Jim thought we went on the ride!
We hauled it over to Test Track and got right in line. Jameson made well over the height requirements and he was now going to ride is first ever “BIG” ride. He was a little apprehensive but seemed to be ok. He kept asking if it would be dark and I said yes but not pitch black just dark enough to see all the things inside. He loved the car and as soon as we got up the ramp after the seatbelt check we stopped. And of course it is the darkest part of the whole ride He started to flip out and finally we moved after what seemed like forever. We warned him of everything before we would come to it and he did ok. Then the big barrier test came and he had no idea what we meant by saying we are going to go really, really fast. He grunted a little around the last corner and told me his tummy got stuck. He said he loved it but would wait a while before going on it again.
We shopped for a bit in Mouse Gears, did innovations east and west and it was finally time for Soarin’. This would be all over our first time on it Jim understood why it took so long to get the fast passes once he got inside. The crowd waiting to get on the up escalator was massive and we had to fight our way through it. Luckily we got on the ride right away without even seeing a preshow. Jameson started to get nervous and I did my best to calm him. Siobhan had to take off her flip flops and before we knew it we flew up into the air. What a ride!!!! Jameson love trying to kick his legs at the kayakers and when the golf ball comes flying at you he squealed with delight. Unfortunately that was our one and only time this trip that we got to go on it.
Once we were done we headed over to WS for our lunch at Rose & Crown, another first with us. We always try to do something new and happily we are started to run out of new things
We had a short wait and were very happy to eat here. The food was great I had beef stew, Jim had bangers and mash, Pam had potato leak soup, Siobhan had cottage pie and Jameson mac and cheese. I have a feeling we will be coming back to place every trip!
Jim eating something from Poland
It may not look it but Pam really liked the rice cream she was trying!
Coming up: Afternoon swimming and an alligator sighting!
