Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I don't think it's gross at all. Every day I start out with a bottle of spring water, and then refill throughout the day from the fountains, and it doesn't bother me at all. So many people here on the boards are from different parts of the country and are all used to their own water. Guess it's just a matter of taste - you won't know until you try it.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I don't like it at all. We bring bottled water with us when we go down. We freeze it so it stays really cold even after it thaws out it the cooler.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I thought it was extra extra gross. I could not even rinse my mouth with and have decide on my trip not to bring my shower sypplies as I could not smell anything in the shower but the sulfer smell. It is a taste issue not quality of the water health wise. As sulfer in your water won't make you sick it's just tastes yucky. We used the Brita water bottles and filtered as we drank. I know the bottles are discontinued but our CVS carries them.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
It's usually just the resort water, and I don't think it is every room. At OKW, a few times we have gotten horrible tasting water, sometimes it tastes fine. I'm not sure exactly why, maybe the new rooms have some sort of filter?
The water in the restaurants and even at the drinking fountains (at least most of them) tastes fine. Albeit a little warm, but they don't taste horrible.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
The water in the water fountains tasted really bad. It was fine in the resorts for brushing your teeth but that was all I would do. I refilled bottles we bought with the water in the soda dispenser in the food court at POFQ.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I have absolutely no problem with the taste of the tap water at WDW and I love the fact that you can go up to any counter service restaurant at WDW and ask for a cup of ice water which they willingly provide free of charge. For those folks who do not, for whatever reason, like the taste, I suggest that you carry along some drink crystals in pre-measured amounts in little baggies and then simply add them to your free glass of ice water for a refreshing drink at no cost to yourself.

I've never had a problem with the water at WDW, but then I drink Houston tap water at home all the time.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I've always had problems with tap water at WDW. It tastes gross to me, and it bothers my stomach if I drink too much. I don't like to drink it myself so I personally wouldn't use it to make bottles .

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
We took the Brita bottles along and they worked great- that way we had cold water with us all day long. There is a really high sulphur content in the water there and it is hard to get past the smell much less actually DRINK it!

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
We bought a pitcher exactly like you described and plan on taking it with us when we go the end of the month. I don't like the taste of my tap water at home, and I remember not liking it there last time we went, so we thought this might be a good option. Also, we have Camelbaks (backpack-type water carrying things you can refill with a long tube-like straw that cyclists, campers, and the military use) that do better with filtered water. The trick is how to pack the water pitcher for an airplane ride.....

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
We have never had any issue with the tap water being gross or tasting bad. I do imagine though that different places have different tasting water. Up here in the boonies of Maine our water isn't as mineral free as it could be. Oh well. However just to be sure I would get the bottled water for the baby.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
We bring a Brita water pitcher (and individual water bottles with an insulated wrap to keep them cold) with us because the water grosses me out ! I just fill them up the night before and stick them in the fridge so that they're cold in the morning. With 5 of us, buying bottled water in the parks can get expensive.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I'm a fairly well-traveled person and Orlando is the *only* place in the U.S. where I have ever found the tap water undrinkable...I usually never notice a difference city to city. We thought it was...well, gross. YMMV .
We ended up spending more $ than we expected to buy bottled water during the trip. Normally I would have just refilled empty bottles from the tap for at least a day before opening a new bottle.

Re: Just how gross IS the tap water?
I had to laugh when I read this post! My family thinks that Disney puts some sort of an additive in the water that causes an instant addiction. THAT'S WHY IT TASTES SO WEIRD! It's a big joke with us. I've even asked about it when talking with Disney vacation planners. They say they won't remove the taste as they want us all to be addicted. Ha! Ha!
