As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
In high school I used "Sun In" because the ad said it added no color. Well, duh!!!! it's straight peroxide it just striped color out! I ended up having to pay a fortune to have my hair low-lighted so it could grow out without looking awful! Thank goodness I had really short hair at the time!

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
Does piercing your ears unevenly count???
In my teens, we went to a jewelry shop in our mall, and decided to get our ears pierced. The lady must have been new to this, because she did the right side okay, but when it came to the left side, after she did it, she made a face, and then she said,,,,,"Oh! I'd better do this again!"
Ummmmmm..... WHAT???

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
Another hair dying disaster here..
I dyed my hair black (I'm naturally a dark blonde), decided a couple of weeks later that I didn't like it and decided to strip the color at home.. Well, DSis and I carefully followed the directions and when all was said and done I looked like a tabby cat had taken up residence on my head. I hid for 24 hours and then went to the stylist first thing the next morning! And my hair felt AWFUL for about 3 months afterwards! (I usually have really soft hair.)
My DMom also used to make me get what I lovingly refer to as 'the Dippy Dog'.. a perm that, because of the length, color and thickness of my hair, made me look EXACTLY like I had golden cocker spaniel ears. Just what you need between the ages of 12-14, a bad perm.

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
I did a hack job shaving my legs in high school...I must have gone through a growth spurt because I was being super klutzy for a couple of weeks. That should have been a big clue to wear long pants until I found my equilibrium, but nooooo....had to shave the legs. I had a scar for a LONG time. Yeah, I was wearing long pants after that for sure!
klutz+soap+razor=uh-oh!

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
I have a friend that was using Nair on her legs. It was in the summer, so it was hot and her face was getting sweaty. She used her hands to wipe the sweat of of her face and accidentally Naired her eyebrows off! She had to draw them on for about a month.
I once had perm chemicals drip onto my neck and ended up with chemical burns. That was attractive! What were we thinking in the 80's and early 90's with all those darn perms?
I also have a friend that did a home perm and when she went to take the rollers out her hair started breaking off. So she basically had a bunch of rollers with all of her hair still wrapped around it! She was forced to do a short spiky punk style for a while!
My mother always said you have to suffer to be beautiful. (or not!)

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
OMG, I've had so many I wouldn't know where to start... tanning disasters, perming disaster, hair coloring disasters, over-plucking eyebrows disaster, etc... I'm not real good at the "beauty" stuff.

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
My faves:
Valerie's glory mullet and Amanda's peroxide sink. Omg, y'all these are hilarious. I've never done anything outrageous like that but some of the clothes I wore in the 80s.....

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
I like to expeeriment so oh man... I have a few lmao!!
When I first started experimenting with my hair I put a TON of Sin-In in it and sat out for hours. My hair's pretty dark so all that happened was it turned Orange.. really, really orange Then I decided to dye it back to my normal color and just get blonde highlights. The second time I got highlights it turned out great... they were alll over my head in different shades and I was pretty much blonde for a few months. However, the first time I got highlights they just put random, brassy-colored streaks on the top of my head and it looked HORRIBLE!
I also had the traditional "self-tanner mishap"! When I used it two summers ago I had no idea what I was doing to I wound up with dark brown/orange hands and discolored elbows, knees, and ankles... definitely an interesting look

Re: Beauty Mishaps?
I had the orange hair/sun in fiasco as well. And there was the time my mom trimmed my bangs in the sixth grade, and she just kept trimming a little more--until they were nearly gone--I vowed when I had children, I would never cut their hair, so far so good! And then there was shaving my legs when I was 14 or so...and wound up in the ER, lost a lot of blood, and still have a scar...
