Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Great update, Cheryl and I, for one, am not at all surprised by thss little excerpt: [ QUOTE ]
and who had started him on the chocolate? Mark! I kept telling him that he was responsible for that whole tantrum!
[/ QUOTE ] Mark probably tried to feed Celery some chocolate too before their little mishap!
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure if Mark was trying to feed Celery some chocolate, that would have put him in a good mood... maybe it was the fact that you didn't offer Celery any chocolate Tara that put him in the bad mood and he just took it out on the person nearest at the time?

Re: The AP adventure - THREAD 7 OF 7 - UPDATED 3/11!
Thursday 23 December – part five: a return to Norway after a two year wait!
Before we got on Spaceship Earth, we went to check out our photo from the last week. I knew there was little chance that we’d still be able to see the ones from a few days ago, as the photos they take usually only last for three days, but I figured it was worth giving it a go and we were in luck. They were still on the Photopass and as they were quite good, we got one copy.
Then it was on to Spaceship Earth, a “must do” ride every time for me. It’s looking dated now and that’s sad. That is becoming a common theme at Epcot now and it’s such a shame. It’s about time that this park underwent a major rehab and got update. I guess that’s coming for the Land with the opening of Soarin’, but the rest of Future World (apart from the new additions like Test Track and Mission : Space) could do with the same treatment too. I hope that happens in time for the park’s 25th anniversary in 2007.
I did manage to get a couple of photos inside Spaceship Earth..
…again, it was so sad to walk out through the empty exit. Please do something with this Disney, it just looks awful.
By now, it was 6.55, so we walked over to Akerhaus, only to find out that our Priority Seating time was in fact for 7.30. I suspect I wrote down the wrong time after Maureen booked it for me. However, it wasn’t a problem and we were seated straight away. Although I wouldn’t say they were busy, they certainly weren’t empty either.
We love this place, but because it was closed for rehab when we were here in May (it was only open for the Princess Storybook Breakfast then), we haven’t eaten at our favourite Norwegian buffet since 2002. When they served lunch here, it quickly became a “must do” for us and I was looking forward to trying it for dinner. It did not disappoint. The cold buffet was just as wonderful as always. It’s heaven for me, full of cheeses and fish and very few meat dishes.
I had great fun piling my plate high with Jarlsberg cheese which I eat at home and trying Muenster cheese, which was nearly as good. Other dishes I sampled included the peel and eat shrimp (not that tasty actually), smoked salmon, tomato herring, shrimp salad and crab salad. All of it was lovely.
The change from the last time we were here is that you now have to order your hot dishes from your server. I went for the salmon and mashed rutabaga, as I love this stuff and Mark went for the braised lamb and cabbage, with seasonal vegetables. My only criticism was how long it took for our hot dishes to arrive. I appreciate they obviously cook them specially for you, but we went through one round from the buffet and then had to go up for another round, as there was still no sign of our hot dishes.
Our server was Tore and, although he was very quiet for the first part of our meal, he came out of his shell when he found out that Mark supported Liverpool Football (soccer to you guys! ) Club, as it turned out that he’s also a soccer supporter. OK, so not the same team, but they were chatting away for ages about how their respective teams were doing and recent matches.
So the verdict on the meal? Dinner is just as good as lunch and it’s lovely to know that this buffet is just as good as always. Another nice change was to see the place a lot busier. When we first started coming here in 1999, it was deserted, as (no offence guys) so few Americans would venture in there. We would regularly hear comments about how “weird” the food was and one family even asked if they could get some “American food like burgers” In response, I swear that they have changed the ingredients in some of the dishes (the shrimp salad is one) to make it more agreeable to a wider range of people.
If you haven’t tried this place, you should give it a go. The bill, including a very generous tip for Tore, came to $55.25 and, best of all, we weren’t rushed there at all. I think we left at about 8.30, an hour and a half after we were seated, which is very slow for a Disney buffet. It was a pleasant change of pace.

I do need to give it a try because DH is always looking longingly at the menu when we pass. This is a man who eats herring out of the jar for a snack! I enjoy all types of food so I probably would enjoy it. The cheeses alone sound wonderful!

Re: The AP adventure - THREAD 7 OF 7 - UPDATED 3/11!
Wonderful updates, Cheryl! I also giggled about Mark giving chocolate to that little boy (who, yes, sooo needed a nap - Mark shouldn't feel "too" bad LOL). I love the pic of the inside of Akershus - can't wait to show the girls - we'll be enjoying the PSB there soon! And my DH would love to try a dinner there so now with the princesses at all meals, that might be a possibility!
Keep it coming, Cheryl!! Great job!
