As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: End of Day 1: Disney\'s Grand Californian Hotel
[ QUOTE ]
I just wish there wasn't the fact that all the rides (exept the dark ones) stay open during the show, making Fantasyland still as loud as it normally is....
[/ QUOTE ]
Speaking of loud, and I don't think I'm acting old because my kids noticed it too but, the entire resort was loud when we were there. It was nice to get back to the room just for some quite.

Day 2: Storytellers and DCA
Before I start day 2, I would like to let you know I am going to Disneyland Park this Saturday! I will be staying from 9-9 (yep--I can't stay for Believe ) with my Church group. I will do a mini update when I get back on this thread.
Now to Day 2: Storytellers and Disney's California Adventure
I woke up and found that Mom and bro were already up . I looked outside at Downtown Disney, and gasped at there being not a soul in sight ! I knew that was normal because it was around 8 AM, but man was that weird... We went down to breakfast at Storytellers. Even though we had not made a reservation and that it was Sept. 1 (school was still out), we didn't even have to wait! When I looked at the menu I chose frosted flakes, but I wanted to do the buffet, but Mom said it was too expensive for a small trip like this. But man I wish I could have done it! I walked by the counter, and my mouth just couldn't stop drooling. The Hot Chocolate was the BEST though! I have never have had such good hot chocolate before. Disney has done it again! And, of course, Chip and Dale were their awesome self's, as always (my family s chipmunks and squirrels).
We then went up to our room to get our bags and check out. I turned around one last time at the room and said and left to take our bags to the car. (Yes, I even feel their way about their hotel rooms )
After dropping off our bags we cut through the hotel and entered Disney's California Adventure through the hotel entrance. We headed to Tower of Terror, saying to little bro all the way "It's going to be fun! Your going to be fine!" because he had never been on it before, and he was nerves. We saw to my dismay that the line was 5 minuets long! (I say "to my dismay" because I am always arguing with my friend about which is better: ToT or Revenge of the Mummy, and mummy is getting 1 hour lines in the fall now and ToT is getting 5 minute lines, so I can't say "clearly the people like ToT more"). We entered the hotel and instead of looking at the detail, I looked at the control consul for the bell hop in the lobby. Yes, that's what I want to do for my collage job: be a bellhop for ToT. I even bought the bellhop training manual off of eBay! I think it's the best ride to do because you are the last thing the guests see before the ride begins, and that means you can say a parting note like "Thank you for... dropping by..." or "If you need anything, just scream..", etc. Anyway, we entered the library and watched the pre show. At the very end, when the lightning strikes, a group of girl teens all screamed a very loud high pitched scream that seemed to make all our ears go deaf for several minutes . Take my word: if you go into the library scene with a bunch of teens that seem to be other then "supervised" and "controlled", plug your ears . We then headed to the down stairs boiler room and waited for our elevator. A question to anyone that would know: Is the upstairs ride the same as the down stairs? We never got to go on the upstairs ones... only down. The doors opened the bellhop let us in row by row, until we all sat down and got strapped in. As the doors closed, the bellhop said the famous "If you need anything, just scream!", and the doors closed. I have memorized the script to the ride, and recited it with rod serling as we moved backwards, and then up to the first show floor, the mirror, where you wave good bye to your self, and then lightning flashes and then your reflection disappears, "because you have just entered: The Twilight Zone". We headed down and to a hotel hall way, and the people that crashed on the elevator appear in a shower of electricity, and then disappear. The hall way disappears, and you see them again in an elevator door. While inside, they drop, and then, we dropped. I LOVE the drops on ToT, and have memorized them: Small drop, small drop, shoot up, fake drop, big drop, shoot up that doesn't quite make it to the top then drops again, 2 medium shoot ups, and then a full huge drop. What a picture we had! We all acted goofy on the picture, and boy did it turn out to be funny! My bro liked it allot, and we went on it again before lining up for Aladdin.
Coming up next: Aladdin: A musical spectacular
And later: Sorin', lunch, and Grizzly

Re: Day 2: Storytellers and DCA
Fantasmic Kid you are so isn't it fun being a Disney fan? I didn't go on TOT, I don't like the elevators in the hotels I have a fear of them. I always thing the cable is going to break. Yeah its dumb but, it could happen. DD, DH, and DN just loved it though and that was good enough for me. Your TR is great and I hope you have a fun time with your church buddies this weekend.

You are too! You are very funny (I still laugh over you telling somone about head dunking for whiners in your TR), and you make great posts. Gosh I love this PP board comunity!
Anyway, what you said about a cable snaping, remember that there is no cable... it's more like a ride car then an elevator (which it is). The AGV (the elevator) begins by following a guide wire on the floor to the back of the shaft, then enters and is attached to the VVC (the thing that takes you up and down), and the VVC is like a powerd rollercoaster car that only gose up and down, so there is really no way it can crash. The one time at WDW when it actually did lose controll of it's movment, emergency brakes kicked in on the spot. It's okey if you still have a fear of it though, I know many people do .
