As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Disney-fying Joey 8/29-9/7 -Pre-trip updated part 4
The dining dilemma…
5/04-6/04 – The time had arrived to start calling in for my priority seatings. Kina and I are adventurous eaters, but Joey, on the other hand is definitely finicky. Know a lot of you can relate! I was torn between wanting to experience new foods and wanting to choose places that Joey would enjoy. I didn’t want to eat counter service food for the majority of my meals.
Another thing I had to consider is the fact that I really can’t eat a lot at one meal. Some of you may already know that I had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago. I’ll usually order appetizers or share an entrée with someone when I go out to eat. On my solo trip I missed out on my favorite character meal at the Crystal Palace (to see Pooh ofcourse!), because I didn’t want to spend so much on a buffet that I wouldn’t be able to get my money’s worth out of. Boma was another restaurant that I had to pass up for this reason. For this trip I am throwing caution to the wind and going for it! I am planning on showing my “special diet” card, signed by my surgeon, but if the restaurant doesn’t honor my request to pay the children’s price for a buffet then I’ll just have to pay full price.
This is the final PS list:
8/29
Rain Forest Café @DTD 2:30p.m
8/30
None
8/31
Plaza Restaurant @MK 6:10p.m
9/1
1900 Parkfare @GF 6:40p.m
9/2
Crystal Palace @MK 11:50a.m
9/3
None
9/4
Restaurant Marrakesh @Epcot 12:45pm
Spoodles @BW 6:40p.m
9/5
Sci-fi Diner @MGM 12:40p.m
Boma @AKL 6:40p.m
9/6
Kona Café @Poly 9:30 am
Concourse Steakhouse @CR 12:20p.m
I’ve made bolder choices on the days that Kina will be with us. Joey will have to try new foods or wait and get something after we’ve eaten. I think the only place I may have a problem is in Restaurant Marrakesh, because even the children’s menu is a little exotic.
There are PSs that I don't think we'll be able to keep either because we aren’t hungry enough or we want to extend our park time. I’ll go with the flow and let Kina and Joey decide . Must dos are Boma and Marrakesh, though.
I’ve also planned to eat at Beaches and Cream on 9/4 when Kina arrives.
What do you think?

I think your dining choices sound good! And I'm glad you're going to the buffets, although I totally understand about wanting to get your money's worth out of them. (And the belly-dancing smiley is too cute! ) Can't wait for more of your report!

Re: Disney-fying Joey 8/29-9/7 -Pre-trip updated with surprises
Planning surprises for the kids!
5 ’04 -6 ’04 : I’ve been wanting to see La Nouba since my trip in 2000, so on this trip I was finally going to buy the tickets! This will be Joey and Kina’s first surprise. I was able to snag great seats for the 6p.m show on Sept. 3rd. Dsis will be arriving that day.
The next surprise was a little trickier to schedule . Before I settled on a date to see La Nouba I had to try and book the Illuminations Cruise. I had to try to secure either Sept 3rd, 4th, or 5th, so that Dsis could attend. On may 31st, 90 days out from Sept. 3rd I called to try and book, but it was too late at 8:30am(Hey, it was Saturday! I needed my beauty sleep !) The CM offered the “Breathless”, which I booked with hopes of getting a pontoon boat for one of the other dates. The Breathless is $55 more and has no canopy, so even with the slightest drizzle the cruise would be canceled. Sunday morning, I sacrificed, and woke up at 6:50am. Thanks again to the advise on these boards I started dialing at 6:59 and got a CM with no wait!
The moment of truth, I asked for the cruise and after keeping me waiting for what seemed an eternity, the CM starts to explain what time to be at the YC marina for the cruise! “You mean I got it?” I couldn’t believe it. This to me was like a mother of a, princess-loving child, getting that coveted ressie for Cindy’s for breakfast!
My family had always sat for 2 hours on the hard ground waiting for Illuminations and now we were going to have front row seats after taking a leisurely cruise. Now all I need is pixie dust for good weather! Please.
There was one more major surprise up my sleeve. I wanted to try parasailing for the first time. I’d seen it on one of the many Travel Channel specials on Disney. Unfortunately I did have to blow the surprise. I didn’t think Joey would be willing, so I asked and he said “No Way!”
Although my sister is pretty adventurous I thought I should ask if she’d be willing to try it. With some hesitation in her voice she said, “OK.”
Since this isn’t the most inexpensive activity, I decided a tandem ride was what I was willing to pay for, so I had to ask one of the most dreaded questions you could ask a woman. “So…how much do you weigh?” There is a weight limit for tandem rides and neither of us is pixie size. I had to be sure we wouldn’t be told we couldn’t go, because we exceed the weight restriction! Relief set in when I added our weights and they were below the limit. So I booked this for Labor day morning on Dsis’ last day.
One smaller surprise is that I booked Tiffany Towncar to pick Dsis from the airport. I haven’t figured out how to pull this one off however. She hasn’t asked me yet, but I know she’s going to. I don’t know if she just thinks she’ll grad a cab.
Anybody have any suggestions as to how to pull this last one off?
Coming up – Finally, the entire Itinerary.

Oh my! Parasailing! I will admit, I'm tempted, but I just don't have the guts!! I'm positive DH would love it! Btw, what is the weight limit? Maybe you could present your Dsis with a card with her name on it, and suggest that she look for something similiar after her flight?
