As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Where you live
I have to say that one of the only things that keep us in this area is Mustang football. DH and I both graduated from West Orange-Stark high school and love to support our awesome football team! Everytime I mention us moving to Florida DH reminds me that we would miss the Friday night football games!

Re: Where you live
I come from the town w/ the best sports fans! Whether it be Cards, Rams, Blues....we are crazy about our sports! The summers are hot, and the winters are cold, but I like our beautiful fall and spring. Also there seems to always be something to do. Though I can see myself moving someday. Kyle is looking at an internship in Texas, and it looks like a move may be made there, but I like Texas so it's good!

Re: Where you live
I love the fact that the cost of living is low, compared to the large cities near us (Harrisburg, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Wilmington), and the fact the we are so centrally located between Harrisburg/Hershey, Baltimore, Gettysburg, and Lancaster - and that even Philly and D.C. are within 2 hours...
Most of all, I love the open spaces, and the very family oriented atmosphere of the area. If we were only closer to the ocean (for DH) we'd probably stay in this area forever...or at least until we retire. ;

Re: Where you live
I live in a small town (< 3000 people) with a low crime rate and good schools. We are also ony 2-3 hours away from Boston and New York City.

*High Five* You said it! I can't say enough good things about Portland, but if I have to pick one aspect that I love, I'd say the Eastern Prom.

Re: Where you live
It's just that I can't imagine living anywhere else. I love the cliamate - not too hot (ok most of the time) and not too cold. I love all the trees. If you look out of the windows of any highrise in Atlanta, you are struck by how much green there is. I love the friendly people (even the Yankees). I love that almost all of my family (DSIL is in Florence, SC) lives within an hour drive. I love Stone Mountain (it's a wonder to behold) and now we live even closer to it. I love the GA Tech Yellow Jackets (and hate the Georgia Bulldogs) and we can zip down to the campus anytime we want. I love the Varsity restraunt (Chili dogs and onion rings ). And I love that DH has lived within about a 10 mile radius all his life. We are third generation at our church. Those are roots that run deep.

Re: Where you live
What I love most about where I live is that I have the best of both worlds. I live in the country with a big yard, lots of trees, and a quiet, safe neighborhood. But, my little town is almost dead center between Harrisburg, PA and Baltimore, MD. So, anytime I want city life, it is a quick drive to almost anywhere. Though since I work in a city environment, I find myself almost never wanting to go to the city. The only time I usually go is during football season as we hold season tickets for the Raven games. Though since I am a Steeler fan, I wouldn't mind missing most of those to stay home and watch my team on TV. But, DF wouldn't hear of it as he is a Baltimore fan from way back in the Colt days.

Re: Where you live
I love the small town feel of Owensboro, raising my daughter in a very safe place. The changing of the seasons is reassuring to me as well as breathtaking at times. Lush greens, autumn oranges and golds, crisp winter air, sometimes snow (I'm always wishing for more snow.), and sunny summers. We can also get to some bigger cities without too much travel time. I love where I work and the sense of family that my fellow teachers and students share. We don't have all the "stuff", but we have a sense of community and values.

Re: Where you live
We love the fifty degree's and raining/cloudy weather veryday (sorry everyone is pretty sarcastic about our weather lately). Actually we love the nature that can be found in Wisconsin. We have the ability to see both a sunrise and sunset over the water that is on par with Key West (IMHO). We also have many wonderful state and federal parks that have preserved the natural beauty of the state.

Re: Where you live
DopeyGirl and Taswira, nice to meet you!
It's not often that you meet native San Diegans.
As they said there are too many wonderful things to say about my hometown, San Diego, but I'll just throw a couple out that I had the pleasure of enjoying today that DopeyGirl and Taswira probably haven't had the pleasure to visit.
San Diego Bay now is the new home of the USS Midway.
U.S.S. Midway
HMS Surprise from Master and Commander, is a new edition to the Maritime Museum.
I was very surprised to learn exactly where the restroom was located on the ship.

And the San Diego Zoo's bouncing baby boy panda, Mei Sheng will be a year old on August 19th.

Come on down and enjoy the weather!

Re: Where you live
I'm with you FanOfMickey! I HATE where I live. The only things I like about where I live are my house and my next door neighbor. DH and I have been looking at houses in small towns in the area but it still may be a few years before we can sell and move. I hate the fact that we live in the cultural wasteland of the midwest. The only thing that will sell out in this town is WWF and the Monster Truck show. (not that there is anything wrong with either of those, just not for me or something I consider family entertainment) My biggest concern is being able to let DD go out in the front yard without the fear of her being shot in a crack deal going bad from the house two doors down.
Other than that, I guess it isn't all that bad.

Re: Where you live
Weather,Weather,Weather! When I read about the weather out there it seems crazy to me. Snow in June? High humidity is awful. We can only tolerate it for about two weeks while on vacation. Also We live 20 miles from downtown LA, 13 miles to Disneyland, 10 miles to the beach,45 miles to the snow capped mountains,60 miles to the desert. There is always something to do here.
