As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Well, we named our daughter Emilie Grace (now I can't buy anything for her prepersonalized!!!)
[/ QUOTE ]
I can totally understand! We named our daughter Meaghan, and she has never forgiven me. In 17 years, we have only ever found one pre-personalized item with her spelling.
As far as names:
For a girl: Kaitlyn Scarlett (Katy Scarlett--can you tell I am a little obsessed with Gone With The Wind?)
For a boy: Matthew Kennard (Mack--for short)

Kira (can anyone identify what movie that name is from)
[/ QUOTE ]
The Dark Crystal?
I like unusual, old fashioned names--if I ever have children their names must NOT be in the top 300 names for the year before they are born (unless it's a family name). I'm very picky and hate common, trendy names. Mainly because I am one of 15000000000000 or so Amys born in the mid-seventies, with a "default" middle name and VERY common last name!
So, right now I like Agatha, Helena, True (family name), Josephine and Tamsin for girls.
Boys: Edward or Edgar, Andrew or Charles (family names), Asher, Lucien or Arthur.
Of course, I'm not having kids anytime soon.

Re: Favourite names
[ QUOTE ]
... oh and before you ask, I'm not feeling broody - I'm sitting here listening to the Human League's song "Louise", thinking how much I hated it when it came out, as there was an obnoxious girl called Louise that I went to school with... and that got me to thinking of names I liked!
[/ QUOTE ]
I love my middle name now, but didn't as a kid. I'm named after my Mimi Louise. I'm Christina Louise. I have a half dozen cousins who all have the middle name Louise, too. When we were told we were having a girl - we picked out the name Stella Louise. When we found out Stella was in fact a boy and the doctor was wrong, we chose our two favorite boys names after two people whom we thought were good role models - Donovan James. I thought you'd get a kick out of all those Louises, Cheryl.
If we have another baby, she will be Stella Louise or he will be Vladimir Julian (again after two great role models in our lives).
My husband's name is Walter - the americanized version of the russian Vladimir. Both mean warrior. My DH is Russian. My son Donovan's name means dark warrior. I mean to have a house full of warriors when I'm done having babies.

Re: Favourite names
I'm very pleased with the names we picked for our children, but if we were to ever have more kids (No, not going to be happening!) I would choose Hunter for a boy's name -- that was my grandfather's name. And we had picked out Kirsten Ashley for a girl's name when we were expecting DS. We never used it for DD, but I still like it.
Oh, and another boy's name I have always liked is Bradley but we could never use it because of our last name starting with S. I just didn't want to make my child go through life with the initials B.S. (No offense intended to anyone with those initials btw.)

Re: Favourite names
I always wanted 5 boys, so I could call them Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Patrick.
I have 3 girls. All names I like for them are used up.

I can relate to that as well.. You can never find anything with Brendan... now there's lots of Brendon & Brandon but no Brendan..
As for names.. Of my 3 children, I think I like Brendan's name the most.. it is classical (to me) & reflects our Irish heritage.. Jamie is actually James but I refused for him to be "Little Jimmy" or "junior"
If Jamie or Brendan had been girls they would have been Kyra.. & Shelby would have been Joseph had she been a boy..
I have always liked
for girls: Julianne, Shelley, Maria ( all names nixed by DH thus Shelby was given to DD)
for boys: Robert, Austin,

Re: Favourite names
I have known of a ton of Brendan's . . . I thought it was the common spelling as well . . . guess someone fooled the general public with that one!!!
I wouldn't have even ever thought to spell it with O-N at the end!!!

Re: Favourite names
I love traditional names. I picked out names I like 8 years ago that are still my favorites.
Ellen Annemarie and Charlotte Elizabeth for girls.
Thomas Alexander and Christopher Patrick for boys.

Re: Favourite names
I also love very classic names...
My boys are named Thomas, Joseph and Samuel - and I'm really happy with all of those names.
If we have any more - not likely, but it's fun to imagine - I like the names:
Abigail, Kathleen, Olivia and Victoria for girls, as well as
Nicholas, and Stephen for boys.
Middle names are always family names...

If my Alex was a girl, I would have named him Katherine, I just love that name for some reason!
And if my Rachel was a boy, she would have been named Matthew! Ah well, I dont have to worry about that anymore, Im done having kids!

Re: Favourite names
Hank and Madalyn
I have the Madalyn, if I ever have a boy, I'll try by hardest to get DH to agree to Hank! I'm also starting to like Evan. As in Hank Evan.
