Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
At one of my secretarial jobs, I was in a steno pool. The other secretaries called me "Dilly". When a secretary types a letter, they put the initials of the person who dictated the letter followed by the secretary's initials. My initials were dll back then. Not a huge stretch to see where they got Dilly from.

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
This is funny how people come up with nicknames and the like. I think the "strangest" name I've been called is "Joanimal" - just a few friends will refer to me as that occasionally.
Another friend (we've been friends since we were 5 and 6, for 30 years!) calls me "Ugly" - I don't remember why anymore, but I sign cards and leave messages to her as "Ugly".
And my friend Jo-Ann's mother calls me "Rhonda" - we went away one time and she would call out our name and we would either both answer or neither so she decided I would be "Rhooonnnda" - and I identify myself as that when I call their house! Her cousin's thought that was my real name!!

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
My kids all have different nicknames.
My son loves to eat potatoes -- mashed, french fried, whatever, he'll eat 'em. So when he was a baby, my sister started calling him Mr. Potato Head. His name is Brady, so it's been shortened to Brady Tady Head. Lots of times, I'll call him Tater and not think anything of it.
My middle dd is Mykiah (pronounced Muh-Ki-Uh... cross between Makayla and Mariah). We call her Kiah Jane a lot, even though her middle name isn't Jane. She gets called Micah or Makayla ALL the time and never corrects anyone. Poor kid gets stuck with a mom named Kim who wants her daughter to have a unique name. I think she likes it, but she's never said anything either way (and I'm afraid to ask).
My youngest is Chesney. Mostly I called her "Boo Boo." She was small when Monster's Inc came out and we were already calling her Boo. Since then it's become Boo Boo Kitty (complete with her making cat noises) but most of the time it's just Boo.
I'm Miss Kim at work (used to be TeacherKim but I changed jobs). This morning one of my students called me "Mommy" though. I figure I spend more hours per day with him than his mom does, so it makes sense that he was a bit confused.

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
A few years back when I went to get tickets for the AutoTrain, I went to go pay for them and on my tickets they have Nancy. I look at the attendant and ask her who is Nancy? And she says Isnt that you? Uh, no, Im Kim not Nancy! So for that trip, my family would call me Nancy from time to time!

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
Oh gosh I've been called sooo many things...
My Mom always called me "Diz" ( as in Dizzy)
My oldest niece called me "Na Na" for the longest time.
I think the only name that bothers me is when someone botches Ann & calls me Anna.. Even tho that was my Grandmothers name ( who I was named for) my birth name is ANN!!!! there is no 'a' or 'e' at the end ( I hate it when people misspell it as well)
My 3 kids all have nicknames from us..
Ds#1, Jamie is "Pince".. when he was little he couldn't say Smith so he said "My name is Jamie Pince".. funny story, we invited a friend of my brothers over to swim a few years ago & I had to run to the store & ended up driving behind him as he was coming to our house & I wondered why he passed our house up (it was his first time there), he drove back slowly & finaly saw me.. he told me he was reading the mailbox & saw "Smith" & thought our last name was "pince" so he thought he had the wrong house.
DS #2, Brendan is "Petey".. when he was an infant we were watching TV a guy named Petey was on there & I said it to the baby & he giggled uncontrolably.. every time we said that name he laughed ( yes i've got strange kids) so ever since then he is Petey to everyone but me.. to me he is my Muffin
DD, Shelby is "woo" as in the kids TV show "Shelby-woo" MIL calls her "Lady Jane Terwilicky" (or something like that )

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
The only nickname I've ever really been called is Beaner or Beana. My dad called me Christina Beana when I was little and it morphed into Beaner as I got older.
I have a friend named Mary Ellen. We've been friends since junior high. We went through this phase with nicknames in 8th grade. Take your name and make up a Garbage Pail Kid type name in it's place. Mary Ellen couldn't think of one, but I could. From that day on she was "Hairy Melon".
A year later we decided we pick new nicknames, and again, M.E. couldn't think of one. So I started calling her Bob. Bob had real staying power. I call her "Hairy Bobbing Melons" to this day.

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
At Summer Camp- Oscar and The Red Headed Jack@$$
Oscar started cause I talk in my sleep and sleep with my eyes open sometimes. one of my bunkmates thought I was awake and asked me a question and called me Sam to which I said "I'm not Sam, I'm Oscar". The name is still our "private joke".
The director of the camp called me a red headed jack@$$ once cause I was the only kid to successfully prank her in the history of the camp. The next year in box labeled child's nicknames on the register form I wrote red-headed jack@$$.
Home- Red headed Cripple my best friends favorite
cHANCE- The dog's name
Lauren, Kathryn, Tanja- my 2 sisters and my aunt

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
When my cousin was really little, she called me "Ber" instead of "Jennifer"--we thought it was because she only picked up the last syllable and thought it was "Ber"! It was very cute!
And at my first job in high school, one of my friends called me "Slinky" ('cause I'm pretty skinny)!
Signed,
Jennifer a.k.a. Ber a.k.a. Slinky

My last name gets destroyed alot.
Mostly I get Warner (the dutch version, I've even been asked if I was related to Warner Bros. )
I've gotten We ar nar (say it fast)
I just tell them I own the trucking company. You know the one? Werner trucking (that usually gets a BIG response).
So I tell them pronounce it were ner like we were there.

Re: What\'s the strangest name you\'ve ever been called??
My maiden name was Holland, so I was Ginger Holland. One night at college, a guy named Carl asked me out through a mutual friend (we were at a disco, yes it dates me, but the point is, it was loud). He looked like an okay guy, so I accepted. I found this out later, but the next day he told another friend that he had a date with Linda Garland! Fortunately, the other guy knew me, too, so Carl found out my real name before we went out.
By the way, here's a picture of me with my 9yo DS, after Cub Scout camping this weekend. Can you tell why he thought it was me when he saw TeacherKim's photo?
