As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: My first unofficial "death threat"***UPDATE***
Thanks, everyone.
I've been trying not to let it bother me. After all, it may be nothing at all. But I'm really having a hard time with this. I've spent most of today in tears, trying to figure a way out, and not seeing anything particularly useful.
I'm going to talk to the principal about it on Monday -- if she has time for me. She always seems to have some sort of crisis going on. Like, the third grader who tore up a classroom and then jumped out a window last week. (It was a first floor window.)
Frankly, though, I have to find a solution to this situation. If they won't get rid of the problem people, or give me a transfer (which is highly unlikely), I'll just eat the $500 penalty for breaking my contract and go. Problem is, there isn't much around here to go to job-wise, and I was planning on using my higher salary to pay off some debts. Doesn't help that Dennis has absolutely no prospects on the horizon.
I've applied for a couple of jobs in Atlanta (90 min commute each way), and in Florida, and there are some others that I'm going to send my resume to. I'm about to the point that I'll take anything, as long as I can cover my monthly bills.
This is just so depressing, and I just don't see an end in sight.

Oh Pat!! My heart just aches for you! I can feel the frustration and hurt, etc coming through your post!!
What does Dennis think? I think sometimes we mortage our souls for the allmighty doller. I know that it is scary and very hard to make the decision to leave, I fear for your safety..
Whatever you decide to do, I will continue to pray for you and for Dennis!!

Pat, I am so upset that you are having such a rough time! School should not be a dangerous place for the students or the teachers!
I'm sending prayers and pixie dust that your conversation with the principal will result in some peace of mind for you - and some behavior adjustments for the kids that are making these threats.
Please let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Re: My first unofficial "death threat"***UPDATE***
I talked to the principal today. She wants to investigate this threat against me, even though it is very vague. She thinks it's still important. Snaps to her for that, I guess.
Unfortunately for the other teacher, I gave the graphic drawing to our counselor, thinking she would deal with it, but it seems she has misplaced it. The principal was not too thrilled with that news, either. She was appalled at my descrition of the picture.
She knows how bad this school is, which is a little encouraging, because I thought she might be a bit too naive about it. She did give a one-day suspension to a kid who told me to "shut up" today, and she agrees with me about another who we're pretty sure has gang connections and may be using drugs. She's working to find a way to get him out.
So, I feel a little better, but I'm still going to actively hunt for something (please, God, anything) else that will keep Dennis and me afloat. I'm going to try to contact a parent at my former school who was very interested in buying my house. The only thing keeping me going right now is the goal of moving home to Orlando ASAP.
Thanks, again, for all your prayers, concern, and support. It really does mean a lot!

Re: My first unofficial "death threat"***UPDATE***
I just found this post and I have to say that I am almost speechless. It is so sad that you have to deal with this from anyone - no matter their age -- but the fact that these are fifth graders makes it that much more tragic! I will certainly be praying that doors start opening for you to be able to go back home to Orlando.

Pat,
So sorry to hear this news. Thanks to you for sticking it out as long as you have been able to - it can't be easy dealing with those kids, who are obviously hurting deep down inside.
Prayers and pixie dust headed your way.

Well, I'm glad your principal is concerned and looking into it. But please, put 9-1-1 on your speed dial and carry your cell phone (fully charged!) everywhere !!

Re: My first unofficial "death threat"***UPDATE***
My "threat" turned out to be nothing -- one child misunderstood what another child said. The short version: kid said his grandmother was going to "jump" me. How's that for a threat? Actually, I've talked to this kid's dad twice, and each time he's taken measures to straighten the kid out. Wish they were all like that. So I'm not too worried about "grannie".
Unfortunately, it looks like the teacher who was the target of the drawing is going to resign. Can't say I blame her. I'm just jealous that she beat me to it. And I hope she can find something else, quickly.
As for me, I'm sending out the resumes, and looking for bids on my house. Keep the prayers and dust coming. Love to be in Orlando by T'giving (at the latest!).

Re: My first unofficial "death threat"***UPDATE***
Whew! I'm glad that it was just a misunderstanding, but don't let your guard down. Too bad about that other teacher having to resign. I don't blame her either!
Good luck in getting to Orlando. Hopefully something good will come along soon!
