Me, Muffin and the Oasis of the Seas!! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, so this part was supposed to come before the last installment! I am posting it to show you guys what I had to go through before I could plan anything!!
Now that we were firmly booked, I could get into my Cruise Planner online. The only problem was, at first, I had to wait to actually book anything because I had literally just gotten my reservation number!
I plugged in the number and the sail date to add to my online reservations and it didn’t work! First, the website told me I was being Tammy and had to wait or the agent to get out of my reservation. I not so patiently waited about 15 minutes and then tried again..........
This time, it came up with a message that my sail date did not match my reservation number! UH OH!!!! I quickly went to my email and checked my copy of the rese cation and, sure enough, it was booked for the next week!!!
I knew exactly what had happened because the agent I spoke with gave me prices for both weeks and Muffin and I were back and forth about which week to choose. The Oasis, like most ships that sail the Caribbean, alternates weekly between the Eastern and Western routes. So when we were deciding which way to go, we wanted to see what the price difference was.
The Eastern Caribbean is still much cheaper than the Western because of the uncertainty of some of its stops, so we briefly considered this route. However, in the long run, we would still save a ton of money either way, so we went with the Western route.
I can easily see with all of the back and forth how this got miscommunicated!! And honestly in the end it was my fault because I was so excited, I only half listened when the agent went over the details of the cruise!
Anyway, I called right back and got a different agent, so I had to explain the whole situation. She could not have been nicer and straightened the reservation out in about ten minutes. It cost 22 bucks more, which was fine with us!!
This time, I waited for the confirmation email to come through and checked it thoroughly. It was just fine so I then went online and plugged my reservation in and it worked!!
Now I could get into my cruise planner and see what was available for dining, entertainment and shore excursions!! The only problem was when I tried to book stuff, it told me I needed to make a payment first! Since I had paid the cruise in full, I had to once again call and check into this matter.
Of course, I again got a different agent. I tried to streamline the story as much as I could and the agent told me that my payment had been processed but wouldn’t show on my reservation until after the close of business. This was fine with me because I needed to take a break from the whole thing anyway!
Muffin and I decided we would check again this evening and see if we could book anything. At least we could see what was available and have an idea of how we wanted to plan things!
In the meantime, Muffin was able to get our flights and hotel stay switched without incident! We are heading down to Orlando on March 3rd and will still be spending the night at the airport Hyatt. We got new transfers to the cruise port for the same price we paid originally and we are set for travel arrangements.
What a process before you could book anything! I'm glad you got it all straightened out! For the Broadway shows on the ship (like Cats), is it the full show or a shortened version? That's so neat that they have real Broadway shows!
Wow, that was quite the saga before you could book anything. I'm glad you got it all sorted out.
Me too!!

So today is the start of a busy Christmas weekend!
December 23rd
Muffin and I don’t exchange Christmas gifts but he surprised me today by booking the Chef’s Table for our first night of the cruise! I told him that it was an awesome gift and to make it my birthday present as well because it’s 95 bucks a person!! We have done it a few times but not for a while and it is seriously comparable to Victoria and Alberts!! It is a five course tasting menu and includes wine pairings with each course and the Chef prepares everything right in front of you and explains how he makes each course. Then the sommelier explains the wine parings. It is an exquisite meal and I am so excited!!!
Today we have a busy day planned! I got my nails done this morning and then we Skyped with Logan for a while. We went to see Star Wars with Bobby and two of my nephews in 3D and it was awesome!! We are planning on having a shrimp stir fry for dinner.
December 24th
We have plans to go to Muffin’s parents for an early dinner. They are both 86 and everyone else had plans, so we offered to bring food and cook it for them. We are keeping it simple and making steak and lobster with baked potatoes. After dinner, we are heading to Bobby and Lisa’s for dessert of chocolate fondue!
December 25th
After giving Lilly her stocking , we will call our kids and then have a nice breakfast. Later on today, we will visit everyone and wind up at my brother’s house for dinner.
Glad you got the reservation sorted out and only cost $22 more! Nice going with the dinner package and excursions. Nice Xmas gift from Muffin with the Chef's table dinner which I'm sure you'll love with the service, cuisine and details! Glad you'll be staying at the Hyatt pre-cruise as I loved it before my DCL cruise in 2015.
