Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier-WDW PTR - UPDATED 10/9 - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great start -- I am looking forward to seeing what your impressions of B resort are. Have thought about staying there for a while now.
It's a remodeled resort from the Hotel Royal Plaza which I remember seeing in my many travels to DTD or DS now over the years. It been open for just over a year now! The resort has received many good reviews on Tripadvisor and elsewhere, so hopefully it will be a pleasant stay for me!

It's too bad as I'd like to meet up with you and Mark so much! I met you at the DOD in 2009, but only briefly as I was such a newbie on PP at the time! I'm sure it will happen and hopefully soon!
I do remember that but my goodness, there were so many people, it was hard to meet everyone. I still look at some of the photos from that trip and I can't get over how many of us there were.

Just let me know when you can of your next WDW adventure!
We're looking at potentially Christmas 2017, although I'm throwing lots of options around. My work won't approve Christmas leave until July of that year, which is really late for us booking flights. I also don't know if I can get my leave until that point and I'm not sure if I can deal with that as a planner. I am half changing my mind and am starting to think of maybe going January 2018 instead. We'll see...

Tough to get out of work in December, but we'll see as your plans unfold. January is possible for certain! If there are a lot of PPs down there at the time and some meets, we will see!

In this update my plans will definitely be taking shape with a lot of major things completed…. at least with this latest one!
Saturday, February 20 2016 One of my priorities for this trip is to attend the Epcot Food & Wine Festival for the very first time. I want to know as much about it and be prepared for it as much as possible. That includes the food and beverage offerings at the booths around world showcase as well as the special events, meals and seminars.
I find the Disney Food Blog to be one of my favorite Disney websites and they provide so much great information with various restaurant reviews, new openings and changes to menus. So for my trip I ordered one of their e-book bundles which includes their guides to WDW Dining and the Food & Wine Festival. The latter is a pre-order right now as the 2016 guide won’t be available until Disney finalizes everything for the 2016 festival. It probably won’t be available for a few more months, but in the meantime, I also get the 2015 guide. This should be a big asset to my planning!
Sunday, February 28 Over the past few weeks I have been looking over the various resort options in Disney Springs as there doesn’t seem to be much available at the various WDW resorts for my dates with the promotional rates. A couple of them were particularly interesting to me, so I decided to book them.
I first booked the B Resort, which is a new hotel in Disney Springs and has been in operation for about a year now. It was formerly the Hotel Royal Plaza. They had some good rates for my dates and I booked it for my final three nights of Wednesday, October 19-Saturday, October 22. They had a special online offer of booking two nights and get the third night for free! I thought this was a good offer, so I went for it and got it!
The B Resort looks quite nice with spacious rooms and has received some very good reviews on sites like Tripadvisor. They also have some eateries as well as a spa, which I may use, if I have time, while not in the parks. http://www.bhotelsandresorts.com/b-resort-and-spa/
I was also interested in the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, which is also located in the Disney Springs area. It may be a bit nicer than the B Resort as they have a few more amenities and more eateries. The rooms are about as nice as the B Resort. They didn’t have as good of a room rate as the B Resort, but I was able to get a pretty good one through AAA. I decided to book the Hilton for my first four nights of Saturday, October 15-Wednesday, October 19. http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/florida/hilton-orlando-lake-buena-vista-disney-springs-area-ORLDWHH/index.html
The two hotels are close by on Hotel Plaza Boulevard, so a split stay shouldn’t be a problem. There is also transportation to all four theme parks for the seven hotels in Disney Springs. It runs about every 30 minutes. I could also walk over to Saratoga Springs and the Paddock stop and take official Disney transport if I want. These may be a bit more convenient at times during my trip.
Monday, February 29 Over the past several days and weeks, I kept checking Jet Blue to see if the fares from the New York City area to Orlando had come down, but they had not. After, getting home from work, I checked the fares again and they finally came down! I was quite happy about this as I had enough Amex points to transfer to my True Blue account for somewhat of a free flight until all the fees are added. Even better as my flights would be out of and returning to Westchester Airport, which I prefer over the big New York City airports.
I transferred my Amex points and there is a small fee for this. Since, this was nearly a free round trip flight I decided on the Even More Space seats, which are quite nice and are only $45 extra each way. I think they are worth it! Even better is, when I chose my seats, I got seat 1A and at the window, which I prefer. These seats also have another perk and that’s expedited security as I can jump ahead in line for this.
So here is what I have for flights: Saturday, October 15- Jet Blue flight # 1895 departs from Westchester at 7:30 am and arriving at Orlando International at 10:12 am. My return flight on Saturday, October 22-Jet Blue flight # 1896 departs from Orlando at 6:15 pm and arrives in Westchester at 8:51 pm.
I am quite happy with these flights as I will have nearly a full day on my arrival and several hours on my departure day to spend in the parks and other things. I am glad I got the two biggies for my trip out of the way!

Your flight times look great too! Love the 'extra' Disney time on departure day! I always want 'just one more visit' before I get on the Tragical Express!

I'm very happy with the hotels as I've always stayed on property so another "First" on this trip!
I'm very happy with the flights and I've been taking later flights on departure day the last few trips!
