Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I do get down on the ground in the airport, but I'm not a germaphobe at all. I embrace the philosophy that I'm giving immune system a workout! I do have different rules for Developing nations, though.

We don't do anything much different. Going to Disney, we're not in the airport overly long so we'll have something to eat, hit the bathrooms, watch the planes taking off and landing, I'll go over our plans. Coming home, we always have a longer wait (by choice). We'll browse the Disney Store, get some lunch, hit the bathrooms. Lenny sometimes will close his eyes and take a nap (but he has us to wake him up). Abby will download a movie into her iPad and watch that. I start to write my TR.

I let my kids play in the airport play area, if there is one. I also eat, go potty, read, and do crossword puzzles. If it's a long wait, I try to find a quiet area with an electrical outlet and plug in the movie player.

We take the IPad for long waits. Gives time to review more tips, play games & watch movies. Short waits are best served by looking in shops, grabbing a quick eat or just running to the bathroom.

Love the question. Whether we are going to Disney or not it is always the same when we get to the airport...have breakfast (as we always get early morning flights) check to make sure the plane is still on time find a spot to chill and wait. Usually watch people (as it is always interesting) and I always have my kindle fire so I can read or play games.

I usually have my tablet, so I can read a book/magazine while waiting. We usually have a meal of some sort (this upcoming trip will be lunch, but it's usually breakfast). Most of the time we arrive about 3 hours early since we try to allow extra travel time as we live a 90 minute drive from the airport. Last time, I ended up having an eight hour wait as my flight was delayed by 6 hours=spent a lot of time talking with other frustrated passengers. And sometimes that alternate checkpoint at PIT takes longer than the regular one. In Orlando, I did spend almost an hour in the security line-only 12 people in that line, but people in front of us had all sorts of things that weren't permitted and really held up the line. I also tend to shop around the Orlando airport when I arrive in Orlando, but the return trip DME doesn't always give you a lot of extra time.

We rather wait at the airport then risk missing our flight or have to rush. Most airlines say that you need to check your bags an hour before the flight so they make it on so we usually gets there almost 2 hours before our flight. I read on my nook or do sudoku. My kids will usually play on their phone or read. It's never really a big deal for us, just one of those things.

It's funny that you asked this question! My DH and I were just telling some friends of ours about what happened during our last trip. We were coming home from our Disney Cruise, and due to unexpected circumstances - we were stuck in the airport for about 8 hours. EIGHT HOURS. That's a full time freaking job!!! lol
My Husband and I really enjoy each others company and can survive and have fun anywhere. We did the usual, read our Kindles, listened to music, watched Netflix etc. Took turns taking naps. Food and shopping.
But it was also on this trip that I really got into podcasts. This REALLY saved me. And we also talked and had fun.
People watching is AMAZING lol. You can always find a quite spot and do Yoga or something. Bring a project (sewing, beading, etc.) I'm also a huge fan of those adult (and not so adult) coloring books. Make a game out of it - like a scavenging hunt.
I guess just think about what you like to do on your down time that you like to do

I'm usually too restless before flight to concentrate on one thing. We have breakfast, walk, grab a bottle of water in a shop & maybe a mag. I try to read. But mostly walk. Flight is 6 hrs so don't want to sit much before flight.

Email, book, and people watch. If it is a reply long delay then definitely a drink & snack. Sure when flying with JB it will include watching the different types of planes come & go.

Thanks for all the responses. I found several 5 minute yoga for the office videos which will work well. And hopefully, I won't run into too many delays, Our last trip home from Orlando, our plane was scheduled for 10 PM and didn't take off until after midnight. And there is lots to do at MCO just not after 10.

Some airports offer meditation rooms where yoga may be practiced out of view of other travelers.
When traveling solo, not only do I people watch, but I imagine stories about other travelers. I also play observation games like trying to remember 10 things about a person if I had to describe them to the police.

That's a fun idea!

Hunter mom, glad you found some airport- friendly routines. I bet it will be helpful!
