A trip full of rain, stubborness, and pure magic (June 2-7) WDW - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Loving the start of this TR, Amy, from the funny flight attendant to the Toy Story without Buzz to Pop at night. But so sorry that your dad hurt his knee getting off the bus.
Excited for this TR. I loved following along the Pre-TR
Thank you!

The next morning we got up about 6:30. Dad went to test his blood sugar, and his glucometer was broken. Of course! So I said we could probably test it in the parks at first aid and hoped I was right. We packed our belongings and took them down to Luggage Assistance. We told them about the bag with dad's insulin and that it needed to be refrigerated. No problem there. They were very friendly and told us that our bags would be arriving at Coronado Springs between noon and 3.
I then went in to check to see if my dining plan was active to use credits on our breakfast that morning. Since I hadn't checked into Coronado Springs yet I was concerned about that. The cast member clicked a few buttons but assured me to just explain it to the server and that I should be fine. If not, pay for the meal and then they would refund it and use credits later.
Off to the bus stop we went with dad hobbling along.
It was a scorcher! The cooling towels were already out and in use. We got to Animal Kingdom very quickly. I wanted to be able to be there wary to get him an ECV. I didn't realize that it had to be done inside the park. We sat near a tree in the shade and waited for the gates to open. They did, about 8:45 and we quickly went and got him an ECV.
We headed back and saw that beautiful Tree of Life. They had an opening show where they released the macaws but I didn't have my camera ready in time to capture them. We then headed back to Africa for our breakfast reservations at Tusker House.
We stopped and enjoyed a show before checking in.
Oh wait! We also stopped at first aid. We got dad's blood sugar tested and she made him an ice pack for his knee that melted in about two minutes flat with how hot it was.
We checked into Tusker house and got seated quickly. I had let them know ahead of time that dad was diabetic and needed a low sodium diet. They said the chef would be out to talk to him soon. And this is where dad's stubborn streak kicked in. The chef came out, but I could tell right away that this guy was not going to be helpful. He started off by saying that he refuses to eat heathy even though his wife asks him every day. He didn't offer to make dad eggs without salt or anything special . Dad took that as a free for all, told the chef he knew what to eat, and pigged out at the buffet on sausage and other salty things. He thankfully didn't carb load too badly and did get some fresh fruit. Then when I was at the buffet, the chef repeated to me how he doesn't eat healthy and just had an attitude I didn't care for. I was disappointed to say the least. But oh wel. We are there for dad's for character meal. I had my mealie pap, so my tummy was happy.
Dad was asking all sorts of questions about the Tree of Life. Was it really carved wood? Was this park here when we came back in the 80's? And then he said he saw Daffy Duck coming our way. Oh dad. Oh dad. I am surprised they didn't kick him out. Ha! I corrected him. He said he knew it was Donald, he just got confused. Which I believe. I told him it was the high sodium food he was eating going to his head.
Daisy came soon after. She liked dad and gave him a hug.
A picture of my plate. I used that book in the background as an autograph book.
The next pictures aren't the best but they tell a story. Goofy pointed to dad's button and wanted to know what it meant. So dad told him that he had died 4 years ago and that the EMTs brought him back. He was now here to celebrate the second chance he had been given with his kids.
And Goofy wrapped dad up in a big Goofy hug.
Then Mickey came by for a visit. I told him that I was a teacher and my classroom was covered with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. He loved that.
And there is no picture of me with Mickey because no matter how I tried to show dad how to take a picture he kept shutting my phone off instead of pushing the right button and my sefie with Mickey was hideous.
We had booked this with the Jungle Book viewing package. We got our vouchers instructions on where to check in for that.
After breakfast we used the restrooms. Oh! A little tip I learned. I asked for some ice water to go here. The ice that is comes with is round and fits perfectly in a water bottle.
We then headed to Kilimanjaro Safari, which is picture heavy so I am saving that for the next update. We got sooooo lucky and dad was spoiled...just a sneak peek at what is to come.

What a great time you had with the characters at Tusker House. Just a shame about the chef and his appalling attitude. I was really shocked by that.
I was pretty done with Tusker a house back in November, not because of a bad experience, but because I wanted to try something new. This time it just worked in our plans. However I am not in a hurry to go back next time.
What great character interaction! Sorry to hear about the chef and his horrible attitude. That really surprises me since Disney is usually so accommodating when it comes to special diets.
