Where does a non Starbucks fan get a good cup of coffee in the world? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My husband also hates Starbucks, and all he drinks is plain old black American style coffee. No cream, no sugar, no flavoring. He prefers a medium roast. He was disgusted when we went to Raglan Road this February - they told him the only coffee they had was an individual serving sized pod. He expected a Keurig - but no - it was an Americano - espresso with water added. Gross!!
He's a huge fan of Dunkin' Donuts coffee.
He tolerates the Disney coffee, but doesn't prefer it. His old favorite was the coffee bar near the lobby in the Contemporary, but I'm sure that's most likely switched over as well.
I'm a coffee addict/snob.
IMO
Starbucks is only tolerable if it's cut with a substantial portion of half & half.
Joffrey's is OK straight up but slightly weak for my tastes.
We've booked breakfast at Kona Café on our last day expressly to have the 100% Kona coffee before we head home.
Several press pots should hold me for the morning drive.
Joffrey's is a big improvement over the Nescafe, but its not great. Starbucks blond is Ok, but I like my coffee early in the morning.
I bring the single serving instant coffee packets from the grocery store. add one to a water bottle with milk and or sugar as you like. I like about half milk half water, give it a good shake and you have a passable ice coffee.

I'd recommend the Kona bar. That was a great cup of dark-roasted coffee.
Kona Cafe has French press coffee, but you'd have to dine for breakfast there to get it.
I have a French press to-go cup from Bodum that works pretty well. You can get hot water from the food courts and clean out the contraption there, too.
We liked the Joffrey's coffee too , that said we have never ever had a 'burnt' tasting Starbucks coffee at home or in WDW it's always been made fresh to order and they always ask our preferences for the coffee beans and cream and such. We have had Costa coffee at home and whilst it's not bad from their coffee shops it's been better in our own coffee maker. I think it's just a case of what you are used to. We found the coffee at Kona was good, O'hana did a great french roast pressed pot too as did the Grand Flo Cafe and the Yachtsman 's Steakhouse and surprisingly Chef Mickey's too.
Now it's come a long way since the stuff we first tasted on our vacation in 1998 which was bad and was what we jokingly refer to in our house as 'draino' since it was so potent and had you moving within 10 minutes of drinking it .. you all know what i mean. Good coffee needs to be made with great quality freshly ground beans and pure filtered water, iIprefer mine cooler than boiling off my tastebuds and pleasant enough to enjoy before getting ready for the day ahead. We are not coffee snobs, we have used Taylor coffee beans back home and love our little coffee pot that only holds 4 small cups which is one bug Disney Mug so it can need a second pot making easily. I hope you find one you like and when you do ask if you can take some back home with you
Joffrey's is our favourite in WDW, so much so that I usually order some of their "Disney, In-Room" blend a couple of weeks before we get to Florida and have it delivered to our resort (they don't ship outside the USA, unfortunately). Luckily, we can usually find it quite easily at kiosks in the parks.
I loathe Starbucks coffee in the UK - it is too strong and dark for me, and adding more milk just makes it worse. It is marginally better in the USA, but I still don't like it.
Other than Joffrey's, our go-to blend in the USA has to be Dunkin' - we love their coffee, it is just so smooth!

Oh my goodness I completely forgot the have coffees at Dunkin' ! How crazy of me It's been years since we went into one of their shops, maybe that's why it went out of my brain... Do they sell their blend of beans either as is or do they grind them for you? I can't remember how they did their coffees since it's been so long...that said DH has heard good things about their coffees and of course all their foods.
My suggestion is getting a good coffee at one of the resorts for a table service meal for breakfast, which is always better than from counter service at one of the food courts.

Dunkin Donuts is my husband's first choice for coffee. Incredibly, he prefers even McDonald's coffee to most of what is served at WDW. There is a DD east of WDW on 192, near the Logan's Roadhouse. You can buy their coffee already ground and vacuum packed, and in pods too. They've expanded their food selections to things like breakfast sandwiches (all day) but we usually get a bagel and cream cheese and some doughnuts to go--with coffee, of course.
My BF prefers McDonald's coffee to most other options & honestly in comparison to some other restaurant chains, McDonald's is quite good & almost never bitter.

I'm glad there are a number of DD's and McD's coffee fans here, although I prefer DD's over McD's, but latter still good. To me I have never liked Starbucks and feel their coffee is somewhat burnt and certainly overpriced in comparison.
It's funny talking about Starbucks, Dunkin and McD's as I like the latter two for coffee, but if you want good coffee in the am forget these and go to a good diner for this as well as a nice breakfast and you'll be more than happy, if you have the time!

Funny thread! I love SB coffee. Is that because they do it better in Oregon, or because I have NW coffee taste? I don't buy from SB because I have questions about their coffee sourcing-is it fair trade? are they decimating the rain/cloud forest to grow it? etc. But I do like it!
Coffee preferences are different in different parts of our very large country. So New Yorkers, New Englanders and even those of us from near Philly tend to prefer Dunkin Donuts, Chock Full o' Nuts, Eight o' Clock, Wilkins (sadly, no longer available for retail--but their ads used to feature early Muppets), etc. Quite different from Starbucks and Caribou, and also quite different from the Community and Luzianne coffees enjoyed by my southern relatives.
