The Many Adventures of the Ayers’ Family - Oct 2014 TR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry for some not so easy moments, maybe the travel day just was hard on your MIL. Dinner looked delicious, makes me want to go back now as it has been a while since we ate there.

The foreshadowing has me worried.
That's what I thought as well, maybe she doesn't travel well but what happened next broke my heart.

Once we were out of the restaurant, we walked over to Haunted Mansion. The line was only 20 minutes so we hopped in and got on the ride in less than 10 minutes.
Next we made our way to It’s a Small World which had a 0 minute wait. We walked right on.
We wandered around for a little while and finally made our way into Fantasyland. I noted the wait time for Mine Train at 70 minutes…we kept walking and came upon The Little Mermaid ride. The wait time was posted at 10 minutes but we walked right now. During our ride, the ride stopped a total of 3 times, which was quite annoying. While the ride was broken down, DMiL was complaining about how unsafe it was and that she was tempted to just get out of the seat and walk out. We told her to stay calm and the ride would start back up soon.
Finally we were off the ride by 8:32 pm and headed for a quick ride on Dumbo.
After Dumbo, we noticed that across from the ride there was a trick or treat trail, so we got in line and got our candy.
After we got our candy, we started to walk towards Tomorrowland and it happened….My mother in law was busy looking in her candy bag and didn’t notice the flight of stairs in front of her. My DH and DS kept telling her to watch out but in a panic she decided to jump and missed the last 3 steps…SHE BROKE HER FOOT. She was screaming and crying and 3 or 4 cast members ran over to assist us. I sent my DSis and DS off to ride rides while we waited there. While the cast members were helping us, DMiL kept saying that she didn’t even want to come on the trip and she wouldn’t have hurt herself if she had just stayed home. She basically made me feel as if I kidnapped her to go to Disney World. I was saddened, upset, angry, hurt, worried…every emotion possible ran over me while I watched her sit there with my husband holding her up. EMS got there quickly and took her and my DH to Celebration Hospital.
Once they were transported to the ER, I just stood there and cried. I probably cried for a good 5 minutes before my DSis and DS came back. DSis took me to a wall to sit and while we sat, a cast member named Eric walked over and got all of our information (where we were staying, our names, our trip dates) and then gave us 2 fast passes to use the next day.
He asked us if we were going to remain in the park for the evening and I told him yes (DH had already told me to stay at the park with DS and DSis and enjoy the party while he took her to the ER)…there wasn’t much that we could do anyway so we decided to stay. We asked us if there was anything that we absolutely wanted to do and my DS pipes up with “MINE TRAIN!”. So Eric walked us down the exit ramp of the Mine Train and put us in the first 2 seats. As upset as I was about everything that happened on our first day, I started to calm down and have fun with my sister and son. Then he walked us over to Space Mountain and we did the same thing. After our rides, we said goodbye to Eric and we went our separate ways.
Mine Train:
Space Mountain:
We watched a few minutes of the fireworks and then hopped on Buzz Lightyear which had a 10 minute wait.
Buzz:
During this time, DH is texting me and telling me that DMiL has a fractured foot and he’s not sure what’s going to happen now. Please remember that we have been at Disney a total of 6 hours when this happened.
It was approaching 10:00 pm so we found a nice location to watch the parade. After the parade we hopped on PoTC. At PoTC, we walked through a few shops and then made our way to the bus stop by 11:23 pm. We were back in our resort at 11:56 pm and I quickly headed to the front desk to find out where the hospital was. The CM gave me directions and I headed to the room until I heard from DH. At 12:30pm DH texted and said he was ready and DSis and I got the car and drove to Celebration Hospital. We picked them up and finally got back to the resort at 1:00 am.
Once back at the resort, DH headed to the front desk to ask about a wheelchair and we were provided one for the week (free of charge) because everyone knew what had happened. The CMs from Magic Kingdom informed our resort of everything, everyone was so nice and accommodating. We even found out that they arranged for us to receive MNSSHP tickets for Thursday (10/23) because we had such a bad start to our first MNSSHP on 10/19.
DMiL and DSis are both smokers, so they were at the smoking spot and I met them down there while DH was talking to the front desk. DMiL said that she wanted to stay for the rest of the trip, so we said ok and since we got the wheelchair, we hoped that everything would be alright.
We finally got in bed at 2:30 am and I quickly feel asleep.
I was a terribly long day and just when you think it couldn’t get any worse….Monday 10/20 happened….
Up Next: 50 PTC & DHS

Oh man. What a first day you had!
So sorry that your MIL was not in the Disney spirit prior to the fall. Glad Disney helped you guys the best way they could with everything.

Yea, it was a long, tiring, emotional day.
I had hoped that DMiL would have been more open and optimistic about the trip, but that wasn't the case. I was very grateful that Disney helped in any way that they could.

I'm surprised you haven't sent her on a flight back home...it would seem like it would be well worth the $ to send her home early then have her spoil anymore of your trip then she already had. I'm SO incredibly sorry this happened so soon into your trip. I want to read more but at the same time it upsets me that she ruined the fun.
Oh my goodness - what a horrible time you're having of it so far. I love though how Disney came through with their customer service for you - how great that they did absolutely everything they could to make things right for you.
I really do not like the sound of the next instalment though....
Tell me about it. I tried so hard to maintain a calm and optimistic demeanor but sometimes there is only so much you can take before you break down

Trust me, I thought about it. My sister told me to just relax and hope that the next day would be better. Keep reading...it gets worse and then better.

Yes, I was grateful for everything that the cast members were doing to help us. They were very understanding and accommodating. We made sure to say thank you a million times.
Yes, the next update will be a doozy but it gets better after that Stick around!
